Semicolons denote the end of a statement. In most languages, whitespace is for programmer. Not the computer.
So in C++ for example
int x = 5;
int y = 6;
int z = x+y;
is the same as
int x =5; int y = 6; int z = x+y;
But other languages like Python use whitespace as a fundamental part of formatting things. (Doing this from mobile so no examples.)
