We're not able to prove that we're Cherokee because back around 100-150 years ago (I think), my ancestors on the Cherokee side never turned their census papers into the white people, because they thought that the white men would use those papers to try and move them again. Also, my great-times-like-6 grandma was adopted by white people, and I'm pretty sure she never knew her parents, so it's hard to trace my lineage further back than her.
I'm not exactly sure where my family was from pre-Oklahoma, but my family does have some relatives over in the Mississippi/Alabama area. I've never met them though.
