Nope. The Mouther was actually a humanoid fish-person that had been turned into a monster because of some magical rain. So since the party couldn't get touched by the rain, they stole a rowboat and used it to cover their heads. Also, they just decided to sneak past the Gibber because there were like an entire town's worth of monsters around it.
