Hope that people on the forums continue to use 5e stuff, I mean everything is supposed to be compatible right? I don’t know how much they changed combat or character creation. As far as I know, they just updated the core classes and that sort of stuff with new mechanics that still work with 5e but I have genuinely no clue about anything else or if that’s correct. I just like the 5e system and don’t think I could stop using it completely in favor of a new one.
One of the big things changed is subclasses all start at lv3. But there's supposed to be some guidance on how to mod 5e cleric/wizard/druid/warlock to fit 1D&D.
For me I honestly wish all subclasses started sooner. One nice thing I like about those classes for campaigns that want to start at low level is that you get more differentiation in things. It feels nice to have real variety to the same class with the lv1 start. Particularly in PBPs where so many can die before lv3 so getting an early subclass can actually let you use your subclass.

…WHY? I could get changing the subclasses, but why not level 1 so that you immediately get that differentiation? And also, Sorcerer, cleric, and warlock just straight up Don’t make sense with that system. I think they should just keep it as it was. Or add Paladin to the 1st level list.

I derped on forgetting sorcerer.
In one way it makes sense to standardize them all to lv3 if the idea is "Lv1-3 is tutorial." But I agree there's a lot of IC stuff that doesn't make sense. "I am paladin sworn to my solemn Oath of To-Be-Determined." Plus more campaigns than just starter-sets are "Hey, you'll go from lv1-X" that it's like, "Here's a list of subclasses you can play. JK, you'll barely use them. Scheduling will lay waste to you all!"
It also made sense that full casters all got earlier subclasses so that the lv3 lv2 spell slot boost wasn't further accompanied by the subclass boost.
And I'm just imagining the sorcerer being like, "I have a magic bloodline! It courses through my veins and provide me with... MAGIC!" "Cool, bro! Do you know what it is?" "I dunno, lol." *2 levels later* "Huh! Turns out this whole time there was a brain bug in my head." (aberrant mind) OR "Oh wow, I'm related to dragons! I really should've read them family tree earlier..." (draconic bloodline) OR "Get this, it's crazy. So it's wild magic in my veins that does all sort of weird things, nevermind that never happened before. I might turn into a flowerpot or something now, lmao!"
Just hope combat isn’t changed and stuff and they only really touch the classes and rebalance monsters and stuff, because I don’t wanna personally revise every single homebrew monster I’ve collected throughout the years. Does mean I’ll likely be even more of a forever DM than I already kinda was.
If I recall the one big change they made is that Legendary Actions are going to be Reactions. Though they're also changing shocking grasp so that a single cantrip doesn't block a monster's revised Legendaries. (Guess they're making it only prevent opportunity attacks.)

Well I don’t like that much but I guess I could just ignore that one :)
I might've missed a discussion on this in another thread, but does anyone actually care about 5.5e/6e/"One D&D"? Keep in mind I haven't really been keeping up with what it changes or fixes, but last time i checked it all just seemed kinda.. pointless. If you can literally play a new edition using an old edition, is it even a new edition or just slight tweaks? I've recently looked at other RPGs (Cairn, Mausritter, etc) and the communities youtubers keep making them. (DC20, bobs gonna make one eventually, and I'm sure there's others) Just kinda seems like now that I've actually looked at something other then D&D I'm just kinda like, "This really isn't "The Worlds Greatest Roleplaying Game." And its worth noting I haven't actually played any system but D&D yet, but I have looked at several and my group is switching to Symbaroum soon. (I might also run a Cairn oneshot) basically I think I'm sticking to 5e if I play D&D
Just curious what everyone else thinks
(Also, I know some people just want to yell or complain about nothing, I hope I'm not coming off like that (especially because I once was that, kinda.) I'm totally open to changing my mind if someone has good reasons, like i said I haven't even kept up that well with 5.5e/whatever you wanna call it. Y'know I get the feeling this has been talked about in another thread with the same people already and I wasn't there..)
Good choice. Symbaroum as a system and world is much better than D&D. Same goes for all of Free League’s products, but Symbaroum and Coriolis are especially well-made.
To answer the question, I couldn’t care less about One D&D. 5e was never an especially good system, just the most popular one. I’ll continue to use it for convenience until the community adopts One D&D universally, a point at which I’ll stop playing altogether.

It seems really cool, but the DM knows the most about it, I think it and the free league space one are his favorite and that’s why we’re switching
Honestly, I don't really care about One DnD. But to be fair I know literally nothing about it except 1. It's an "update" to DnD rules. 2. All of the stuff you guys just said. 3. They buffed monks (I think?) and changed race to species, both of which I'm fine with. I just hope DnD beyond has the option to switch between the two, cause otherwise I'm gonna be MAD if we're stuck in One DnD.

Stop playing D&D altogether, or all TTRPGs??
That’s gonna depend on if my IRL friends are still interested. For the most part, they are not.
Which is fine by me, to be honest. The writing and worldbuilding were always my favorite part of D&D, not the game itself.

2. A reboot or revive of the Messy Mammoth. Everyone seemed to like it, but it lost traction and everyone left. Some people tried to revive it, but it's dead again now. (Kinda my fault, dont post there anymore.)
Would likely accept mods for either.

Maybe try to revive the messy mammoth, it has some Great lore. I am willing to help with thread necromancy if need be.

were there any major changes to combat?
I dunno. I know there was the idea of monsters not critting and spells/sneak-attack/divine-smite not critting. But those got rolled back.
