Agreed that Grief/Thoughtborn are decent names and fit.
Somewhat thinking of La Llorona in a sense. (Grief-stricker ghost mother that steals and drowns other kids to replace hers.)'
Perhaps Tearmaiden/Tearmaster as a possibility.
Well thats sufficiently awesome and terrifying
:P is La Llorona french?
No. Mexican folklore.
now I wonder if the usa has any folklore
Try looking at native Americans folklore. We also have stuff like moth man, Bigfoot and the like
How dare you not mention wendigo my beloved
Honestly forgot he existed. North American folklore ain’t really my thing. Other than the Maya and Aztecs

Yo, I’m Himy, He/Him. I enjoy reading books, understanding why and how things work, anime/manga, video games and obviously, TTRPGS. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I like to think Im close. I’m good at trivia, history and science
I struggle with empathy. If you’re not sure what I mean by that, it basically means it’s hard for me to understand the mental state of others and respond with the right emotions
Just curious: If I were to make a mafia game, who here would join (and actually be active on it)? Just gauging because if enough people would then I might do it, since those were fun. I have an idea but whether I do it or not depends on how many people would be new to the game.
I would be active, as in checking in once a day (unless I’m seriously busy)
I've got this idea for a character I want help developing and fleshing out
So they're a philosopher (would be a wizard of course class-wise) and they're obsessed with morality and existence and unravelling the meaning of the universe
And his character flaw is then of course overthinking everything
I dont especially have many ideas past that so go wild with that theme

I like guitars (coming up on my fifth year of playing!)
I want to be a musician/stay-at-home dad when I grow up
Recently obsessing over Warhammer 40k, specifically the T’au empire

Probably divination, flavor it as logical (semi magical) deduction as to the most likely future
Either that or enchantment because that has to do with minds and convincing people of things

I love how silly a lot of the cryptids are in (non-native) american folklore, some of my favorites because they're utterly ridiculous
I like the creepiness aspects of Wendigos and Skinwalkers. First introduction to the wendigo was via the show GRIMM which had an episode with them as the antagonists. I know there's hesitancy from people of the Algonquin/Navajo tribes to speak of Wendigos/Skinwalkers but kinda want to look into them more with the stories (and maybe learn some more Native American folklores) some time.
For the non-Amerindian folklore I'm reminded of the show Mountain Monsters which was utterly ridiculous. :D You'd learn a little of the folklore. And then they'd have a crazy night of almost capturing the cryptid which would narrowly escape. First time I saw an episode of the show I went in thinking it would be like Finding Bigfoot or similar things only to be like, "Nope. They are delightfully cray-cray." Though it was a bummer once I (quickly) realized their stuff was extremely staged. (I enjoy a show that tries to search for things, but on the flip side my favorite of the Finding Bigfoot cast was the skeptical one.)
@Gib Gibnot sure yet, but I might be interested in a Mafia game. (I'll see how things are. Just came back from being away for a while, so wanting to see how consistent I am.)
On the topic of cryptids, one of the things I love about D&D is that the monsters and curses townsfolk are afraid of in D&D are actually real, in D&D if there's a spooky story about a monster its more likely to be a real threat than fake
Not sure if I'm explaining that well, but hopefully it makes sense. (And most TTRPGs, I just said D&D cause its the face of the hobby)

You’re explaining it pretty well. And it comes as a shock when the rumors of a nearby monster are just false.

On what PJ said, I do like that about DND as well, but I am of the mind that some monsters or such things actually existed, and that ancient people weren't just making stuff up.

Guys. Pineapple on pizza is different to Hawaiian pizza. Hawaiian Pizza has pineapple, ham(or bacon), cheese, and tomato sauce. Each of those ingredients were specially chosen to compliment each other, and is vastly different than putting pineapple on, say, a Trenton tomato pie, Which is a sin. The sin isn't in putting pineapple on a pizza. The sin is putting ingredients that are specially chosen to go well with other ingredients, and putting them on another pizza. Why? Well, not only will it not taste good, but you will also be demonstrating how little you care. If you want a pizza to be good, you have to put care and thought into what you're making it with. If you just add random ingredients, that's not good. Another thing. People put all sorts of toppings on pizza, like peanuts, calamari, banana curry, pear, pistachio, mustard, baked beans, and freaking MAYONNAISE AND TUNA. Does anyone make a big deal out of this? No! We just all go and attack the Canadians! Stop being rude to Canadians. Hawaiian pizza is amazing.
Now, here's the thing. I personally don't like mayonnaise, and so if it was on a pizza, I probably wouldn't like it. But, we just have to try new things. I'm not saying that any pizza is objectively bad. All pizza is good, and is a miracle our silly ape brains could make something like it. The toppings of a pizza only has a finite affect on how good it is. Sure, pizza with ingredients the consumer think are better will be tastier to the consumer, but there are people out there who genuinely love mayonnaise and tuna pizza, of baked beans pizza. We shouldn't dehumanize people based on their preference of food. That's ridiculous. We shouldn't think that because of someone's preference, they should be treated like lessers. We shouldn't ignore and devalidate the likes of fellow human beings just because we disagree. Silencing people because of their beliefs is very not good. And yes, this is just about pizza. And to most people, pizza isn't that big of a deal. But we don't know what people find important. We can't know, without asking. There might be a good memory that they associate with a particular object, and insulting that object can feel very personal.
Don't shame people for what they like. Don't disregard their thoughts. Don't dehumanize them. Don't think yourself better than them. Because you aren't. Like what you like, but don't foist your beliefs and opinions on others.
It isn’t that deep man
...yeah you don't need to think this hard
Even if it might be a little bit of overkill, I still agree with the sentiment behind Gonzalo’s post.
Why thank you! And I agree, it's overkill. That's just what I do.
