If you don't have a starting point, I'm afraid I can't help you.
Hm
I haven't played a bard before,
So bard it is!
Some considerations:
What subclass? What level? What's a character archetype/gimmick you would like to start with?
Subclass: Valor, if you have the books Level: 9 (If that's too high, then 6) I came to you because I wanted a creepy character

Hello! Call me Gato (Cat in Spanish) In this place where you're not here, in this place where I was with you Your eyes are too kind, and I'm covered in wounds. Don't let me love you. They say people are born different. We brainwashed in the same system. They expect perfection. So how can we be different? NOW, ALL HAIL MERLIN, AND THE GREAT MERLIN ARMY. GIVE ME A 4D8 ATTEMPT: [roll]1d8[/roll] + [roll]1d8[/roll] + [roll]1d8[/roll] + [roll]1d8[/roll]=[roll][roll:-4]+[roll:-3]+[roll:-2]+[roll:-1][/roll]
My Dad is also scary strong. He literally kept a four-wheeler with my 200+ pound grandfather on it from falling backwards off a trailer.
Also: Fair, except I don't think that ANY weapon exists for a 'good' reason.
Counterargument: many of the original weapons (such as spears, bows, and atlatls) were for hunting animals, not people. Many animals are dangerous if you don't have adequate protection from them, and back then they didn't have enough shelter, and thus had to defend themselves in other ways.
But you are right for the most part. I'm just cherrypicking examples.
Well, it pretty much just modern/'superior'/'advanced' weapons that are the issue.
Imo, some of those are a necessary evil. If you want to protect your family and people from invaders, you need to be able to do it well, and that's just with muskets and matchlocks. Even most modern weapons were created in the world wars, and I feel like that's a good reason to have some good weapons. Excluding the atomic bomb. That should never exist

I have physical copies of quite a few books, and PDF copies of tons of homebrew.
So, a creepy character... Well, first you need a theme. Horror on its own tends to fall flat. You need to pick a subgenre. And remember that creepiness is focused on ambiguity, the aspect of being unpredictable not due to randomness but due to lack of information or twisted expectations. There is a reason clowns and masks are considered scary.

With less advanced weapons, or with their bare hands if necessary. And don't say they wouldn't. There are historical accounts of knights dropping their weapons (most likely due to damage) to duke it out fist to fist

Yes, but hand to hand combat would lead to far less losses on both sides. The stronger would win. Advanced weapons just increased the amount of people killed before one side surrendered.

What kind of evil secret are you thinking of?
There are as many secrets as there are pieces of information. But one thing is important to note: evil requires power. So does good, but evil requires more. To commit vile acts requires that you inflict harm upon another (not getting into taboos here, those are a different story and much more complex), and almost all life resists this, sometimes to its own death.

Well, you'd need to explain how that works. What do they do with the souls? What are the effects of losing such a vital part of oneself?

Actually, that would lead to wars lasting longer. Sure, less people are dying, but more people are going home with carer ending injuries. You can't provide for your family; you all die a slow. sad death. That or you get captured and used as ransom, which was actually more prevalent than killing in the Middle Ages. I much rather just get stabbed and die than have two broken legs and a shattered ribcage as I slowly waste away.
