I've got a little puzzle for you. Did you know that 1 = 2?
I'll prove it.
Suppose there are two real numbers a and b that are equal to each and both not equal to zero.
a = b a,b =/= 0.
Now let's do some math.
a = b
We can multiply each side by a.
a^2 = ab
Now let's subtract b^2 from each side.
a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2
Now let's factor out each side.
(a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b)
Now we see each side has (a - b) so let's divide each side by (a-b). (a + b)(a - b) / (a - b) {{cross out each a - b}} = (a + b) b(a - b) / (a - b) {{again, cross out each a - b}} = b That gives us,
a + b = b
Now since a = b we can substitute in b for a.
b + b = b
Combine terms
2b = b
and now since we know a,b =/= 0 we can divide each side by b which leaves us with
2 = 1
Tada!
And to go further, let's subtract 1 from each side
1 = 0
And since we know any number multiplied by 0 is 0 we can also get another set of equations
0 = x*0, where x is a real number
We also know a real number plus 0 is equal to itself so
y = y + 0, where y is a real number
Since x*0 = 0 we'll do another replacement
y = y + x*0
and since 1 = 0,
y = y + x*1
so now we've also shown that every number in existence is equal to every other number in existence. Yeehaw!

This is the shame that feeds the rot inside, A poison and a creed, my paradise!
Time will pass you by, Just leave it be. Wasted on the fight You won't let us see. Watching as your bloodline Bleeds from me. Would you let me die to Keep your peace? Who but I know God's true gift? What thick black shape my heart repents, With soul agape come flesh afflicted! I shall fill my broken house With cold and hollow truth! Bear me... Nice. I feel like that's probably around the long-end of what I've seen in person, but I also start giving those people hints once they start getting stuck. Which means they'd probably have even longer times to figure it out, if they even do.
Plus I typically have a piece of paper when I show it to people so that's in line with the resources they'd have.

I've got a little puzzle for you. Did you know that 1 = 2?
I'll prove it.
Suppose there are two real numbers a and b that are equal to each and both not equal to zero.
a = b
a,b =/= 0.
Now let's do some math.
a = b
(a + b)(a - b) / (a - b) {{cross out each a - b}} = (a + b)
b(a - b) / (a - b) {{again, cross out each a - b}} = b
That gives us,
a + b = b
Now since a = b we can substitute in b for a.
b + b = b
Combine terms
2b = b
and now since we know a,b =/= 0 we can divide each side by b which leaves us with
2 = 1
Tada!
And to go further, let's subtract 1 from each side
1 = 0
And since we know any number multiplied by 0 is 0 we can also get another set of equations
0 = x*0, where x is a real number
We also know a real number plus 0 is equal to itself so
y = y + 0, where y is a real number
Since x*0 = 0 we'll do another replacement
y = y + x*0
and since 1 = 0,
y = y + x*1
so now we've also shown that every number in existence is equal to every other number in existence. Yeehaw!

You can’t divide the sides by a-b. If a=b, then a-b=0. Dividing by zero is mathematically impossible. It becomes obvious when you stop working with variables an input a number (I chose 7)
O sorrow, I have ended, you see, by respecting you, because I am certain you will never leave me.
Ah! I realize it: your beauty lies in the force of your being. You are like those who never left the sad fireside corner of my poor black heart.
O my sorrow, you are better than a well-beloved: because I know that on the day of my final agony, you will be there, lying in my sheets, O sorrow, so that you might once again attempt to enter my heart.

Ka-ching ka-ching!
I'm curious to know how long that took you to find. I've shown this to quite a few people IRL and most get very stumped.

It took me about 25 minutes. It clicked when I replaced the variables with actual numbers (as I said in the now edited post) for which I chose seven. I had to get a piece of paper to work it out too though

Not me slightly altering bits of lyrics so that they fit my character better despite making them objectively worse in the process...
This is the shame that feeds the rot inside,
A poison and a creed, my paradise!
Time will pass you by,
Just leave it be.
Wasted on the fight
You won't let us see.
Watching as your bloodline
Bleeds from me.
Would you let me die to
Keep your peace?
Oh, caught inside the embers of your name!
Too late for you to take the blame!
Watching angels falling from your grace,
They'll watch you drown the same!
Who but I know God's true gift?
What thick black shape my heart repents,
With soul agape come flesh afflicted!
I shall fill my broken house
With cold and hollow truth!
Bear me...
Flesh lashed and fallow...
Into light...
No more shame
Shall pierce me through!
No one can love you
As I do!
Love me...
Fear me...
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
Awake, impure, divine
Breathgiver of the Strugels
Nice. I feel like that's probably around the long-end of what I've seen in person, but I also start giving those people hints once they start getting stuck. Which means they'd probably have even longer times to figure it out, if they even do.
Plus I typically have a piece of paper when I show it to people so that's in line with the resources they'd have.
Nice call on checking with some numbers.
