Outside the Bibloplex, Strixhaven Academy Central Campus - 11:57 AM
Three days till the beginning of the school term.
With only a few days left until the start of the semester, the Central Campus is abuzz with activity. Several students and teachers of all races and college affiliations make their way to and fro socializing, studying, and practicing magic along the lengthy roads dotted with the towering Torches of Enlightenment that stretch far into the surrounding countryside. At the heart of the Central Campus, among the hovering star arches, administration buildings, dormitories, and dining halls, lies the greatest archive of magical knowledge ever assembled: the Biblioplex. Beneath the massive floating stones that make up the star arch known as the Dawnbow, this vast, domed building welcomes inquisitive minds through doorless archways into its libraries stacked high with books from floor to ceiling. Inside this grand building, beneath its tall, vaulted ceilings, lie impossibly long hallways, chambers large enough to have their own unique weather patterns, and even pools and moat-passages that require boats to cross.
Outside of the Biblioplex, shuttles drawn by automated constructs in the shape of horses ferry students from the satellite campuses of the Five Colleges to this central location, or vice versa. Teleportation circles and portals transport advanced students or high-ranking faculty instantaneously to the library, eliminating the need to walk or take a shuttle. More still simply use their feet to walk from the dormitories in the Archway Commons or the cozy atmosphere of the Firejolt Café to get to the Biblioplex’s famed archives. All around, Silverquill students debate the dichotomy of radiance and shadow within the magic of the word; Prismari performers rehearse an elemental dance, punctuated by the percussion of roaring flame and cracking thunder; Lorehold learners pore over scrolls and discuss the terrible wars of the Blood Age; Quandrix theorists work together to study a conjured fractal equation; Witherbloom alchemists gather ingredients and sample potions and concoctions to better understand the essences of life and death. The scope of it all is staggering, but save for some of the googly-eyed first years still acclimating to the space, everyone seems completely unfazed by the sheer amount of magic and activity that permeates through Strixhaven.
Standing before the Biblioplex’s central archway is a tall, broad owlin woman with brown and white feathers dressed in a gray and white uniform, much like what the first year students wear before they pick their respective college. Her great wings are folded against her back, and she holds her round spectacles in one clawed talon while using the other to rub them with a handkerchief. As she places the glasses back on her face, Professor Mavinda Sharpbeak looks up to the sky and notes the position of the hands on a nearby clock.
“Why, it’s nearly high noon. Almost all of the first years have already completed their orientation activities… Where are you, students?" She mutters to herself as she conjures forth a piece of paper in her talons and scans it with her keen eyes."Aithne, Arvol, Ambre, Aelyn, Hendrix... I certainly hope they haven't gotten lost."
Seemingly in no hurry whatsoever a young man with auburn combed over hair and green curious eyes marvels at the breathtaking surroundings of the Biblioplex’s central archway as he slowly saunters towards his counselor. The young man is not wearing school uniform marking him as a newly arrived first year student, drawing the looks of some but clearly not bothering him the least. Instead he is wearing a red mantle with a grey collar over a white shirt, black pants and black high soft leather boots. He's carrying a rapier by his side and strangely beautiful lute and a simple backpack on his back. "Mavinda." He says as he spots Professor Sharpbeak and comes over to her. "You look absolutely fabulous in that gray and white uniform." he goes on saying, giving her a bow with a flourish. "I sincerely hope I'm not late for anything." He says with a pleasant smile.
Professor Sharpbeak rolls her eyes and chuckles. "Ever the charmer, Mister Silversong. You are indeed late, but the day is still young and orientation is still on. And please, it's Professor Sharpbeak."

Standing not far from the broad Owlin woman, a young man perks up as she reads off the list of names. He is wearing a long black coat, matching black dress pants, a muted crimson shirt, and soft black shoes. A dark grey cowl sits at his shoulders, pulled back so his head is uncovered. All seem finely made with gold-colored accents. He is also wearing a charm shaped like a small golden masquerade mask around his neck.
He comes over to the woman, and having heard her remark to the other student, he says, "Professor Sharpbeak, I'm Arvol, if you're looking for him. I didn't think we needed to be here until noon. That was what you letter said, I think. And..." he glances up towards the clock she had just looked at. "I think there's still a minute or two left!" He gives her a quick grin. "I suppose though I have already run afoul of some rule before I even learned them."
Carrying a full backpack and with a rapier at his side, the man has short black hair, light-colored skin, and hazel-colored eyes. He gives a quick glance over to the other student, studying him a moment, before turning back to the professor. "Hey, at least I'm not the LAST of the last students to get here. Right? Do we get a tour of this place? It is amazing, but I just barely arrived here. It's going to take a while to learn how to get around. We first years get some leeway on being to class on time, right?"
A young women comes up the path, yawing as she digs through an overstuffed dufflebag. Her hair is put ul in a I-dont-have-time-to-deal-with-it-Bun and she appears to be wearing heavy work boots and what sounds like scale mail under the uniform robes. Pulling out a small glass bottle full of a thick black liquid, she takes 2 large swigs before putting the top on and jogging to join the others. "Sorry I'm late. I was up till 4 working on a project for my mom, and then I collapsed into bed and didnt wake up when my alarms went off at 9... woke up at 10:30... honestly I'm surprised I'm not later," she stifles a yawn. "Ambre Rotz at your service, I'll be awake in a moment I promise," she takes another drink out of her bottle.
Professor Sharpbeak looks relieved that the wayward students are beginning to show up. "Avrol Flintwind, I presume? Unfortunately, the tour of Central Campus has already come and gone. As far as leeway is concerned, that will depend entirely on your teachers. I suggest you show up on time in the future, just to be safe. And Miss Rotz... it is quite alright, uniforms are not required until the beginning of the term, but... are you quite sure you're alright? You really ought not push yourself so hard, the semester hasn't even begun. Please notify your mother that you must focus on your studies! ... Have you two met Aelyn Silversong? He is a first year like yourselves."
"No, I believe we haven't had the pleasure..." Aelyn says, offering his hand to Ambre and then to Arvol in a firm handshake, giving them both a warm smile. "...but I'm sure we will make excellent company for each other." He says glancing over them both. "So, what now Mavinda...I mean Professor Sharpbeak? A tour perhaps?" He says to their owlin counselor, clearly eager to see more of the campus.
Avrol gives Professor Sharpbeak just a moment of attention, "Yes, Avrol Flintwood." He firmly returns Aelyn's handshake then looks to Ambre once again. "What sort of project were you working on? I hope at least it was something interesting."
He then suddenly turns his full attention back to the Owlin woman. "Wait. We ARE late? We missed the tour?" He shakes his head. "Ok, so what do we do now then? Are we all here?"
"I'm afraid you'll have to take your own tour a little later, students. If we're lucky, Miss Dresar and Mister Korebole will join us soon and I will take you inside to see the rest of the Biblioplex. There are some exciting opportunities waiting inside for you first years for your orientation - a chance to win some prizes and items that may aid you during your time at Strixhaven!" Professor Sharpbeak says, giving you all a wink. "You'll also have a chance to meet some of your fellow students and learn about extracurricular clubs you can join, or jobs for which you can apply. I'm sure there will still be plenty available, despite your tardiness!"

Avrol shakes his head, "I'll bet all the good jobs are gone though. But I am certainly not going to be working." He makes a face at the thought of having to work a job."There's got to be a History Club or something though, point me in that direction!"
"Just being fashionably late Professor Sharpbeak, and it looks like Miss Dresar and Mister Korebole is even more fashionable." Aelyn says with a wink and a smile, his eyes glancing at other students passing by now, seemingly very fascinated with the beauty of everything in the campus.
"Oh it wasnt that much trouble," Ambre waves off the concern. "I was already helping my dad with something else, so I didn't see an issue with staying up a couple extra hours. The motto back home is work hard play hard."
"You seem very committed to your task Ambre, a commendable trait indeed, perhaps we might have a study group together. But I hope you both will find the time for fun as well. Otherwise I think you'll regret it when you leave this place for the harsh world outside." Aelyn says, looking at Ambre and Arvol.
"My family's motto back home was study, study, study." Avrol says, but he then starts to get a grin on his face. "Mine personally, was no, no, not more studying, no!" He laughs for a moment then suddenly stops and tries to sound serious. "Actually, we didn't have mottos. But it that would have been that, had anyone said it out loud."
He starts to look out at the other students wandering the campus. "So where are those others? Dresar and Korebole are holding us up!" He sounds a bit annoyed, even though he was the one arriving late only moments ago. "Professor Sharpbeak, who are we looking for?" He goes back to scanning the area for anyone who might look like a lost first-year student.
"We are still waiting for an owlin named Hendrix Korebole and an aasimar named Aithne Dresar. But rather than search all over campus, I think it would be best if we all stayed here and let them to come us. It's a large place, after all, and I'd rather stick to the location where they will know we are waiting!"
