Description

Posted Sep 8, 2026Anyone playing a small PC or just wants an animal companion like the mastiff look up or at Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything under Sidekicks. Your new “pet” now has an actual role and can level up with you (with your DM’s permission of course) for any creature with a CR rating of 1/2 or below and a Mastiff’s CR is only 1/8 so it counts. If they speak a language (like the Blink Dog) then your new companion can be a Warrior, Rogue, or Mage essentially, but if they can’t speak a language then the only option is Warrior PERFECT for a Mastiff named Goliath or Barkspawn for a small PC. This is PERFECT for let’s say a Goblin Beast Master Ranger I hope this helps everyone/anyone.

Posted Sep 8, 2026Yes. Look up sidekicks or in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything under Sidekicks any creature with a CR rating of 1/2 or lower can become a sidekick and level up with you while still acting as a mount if you’re a small PC and your mount is medium.

Posted Sep 8, 2026Look up Sidekicks or in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything any creature with a CR of 1/2 or lower can become a companion and level up with you. Since a Mastiff only costs 25 gp and its CR is 1/8 you can have a Warrior Mastiff at Lv 1 (with your DMs permission of course) and it’d be like you’re playing 2 characters instead of just 1. (Unless your DM decides to play as your companion instead lol) I hope this helps.
