Shapechanger. The mimic can use its action to polymorph into an object or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Adhesive (Object Form Only). The mimic adheres to anything that touches it. A Huge or smaller creature adhered to the mimic is also grappled by it (escape DC 13). Ability checks made to escape this grapple have disadvantage.
False Appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
Grappler. The mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.
Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the mimic is in object form, the target is subjected to its Adhesive trait.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.
Do mimics poop
How did you manage to teach such a stupid beast (int -3) what card it should change into?
Mimics are basically just land cuttlefish.
I'd think it would "mimic" the weight of what ever it is
Just did the exact same thing!! Loving it!!
DM: a single skeleton enters the hallway, walking towards you with an uneven gait.
PLAYER AT LEVEL 20: one skeleton? We’re level 20! Stop giving us level 1 threats!
DM: actually, as it nears you, you see that each bone has two eyes and a mouth, and you discover that every bone in the skeleton’s body is a mimic. Now, please roll initiative against 206 mimics!
PLAYER: RUN!!!
What would a mindflayer mimic look like?
What does that even mean?
Mimic: "This isn't even my final form!" *polymorphs into a coat rack* bwahahahaa!
what sound would a mimic make? would it screech, chitter or roar?
SPOOKY SCARY SKELETONS SEND SHIVERS DOWN YOUR SPINE
SHRIEKING SKULLS WILL SHOCK YOUR SOUL AND SEAL YOUR DOOM TONIGHT
I SHOULD USE THIS IN EVERY SINGLE CAMPAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I once had a DM accuse me of metagaming when we encountered a chest and I said "oh, I bet it's a mimic!" and shot it with an arrow. "That's metagaming" he said. Oh yeah, well the mimic's entire origin and essence is metagaming! A creature that evolves to look like an item that adventurers would want!
So I was running gnomengarde (from dragon of icespire peak) and decided to allow the mimic to speak and understand common. It tried to surrender at 18hp, the human wizard casted burning hands (the spell which he has casted more than literally any other so far; I dread to think what will happen when he learns fireball).
When it was at 6hp the homebrew-race-and-wererat-I-should-never-had-allowed wizard made 3 successful intimidation checks to stop everyone else (the other 2 PCs and the mimic) from fighting, and fed the mimic a day of rations. When it demanded more the human wizard (who had burnt the crossbow gnome to a crisp beforehand) sprayed poison at it. The wood elf rogue ran away because he knew what was going to happen
He got permadeathed the next round (but I'm letting him get ressed later) and the other wizard had to kill it with a throwing dagger.
So yeah, let this be a lesson to always be kind to an enraged mimic which you can negotiate with!
Where my trust issues began.
give us a pic of its true form!
My party got a pet mimic yesterday
We were crossing the silken paths fighting spiders n all that jazz when whatever encounter generator the am is using spits out a mimic on the far side of the chasm
Ofc we all start feeding it, we all had a bunch of cooked chuul meat from a previous encounter with 3 of them
We tried to tame it
The other rouge (a changeling in goblin form at that time) tried to tame it but got a nat one on their animal handling check
The human druid (just out of giant spider form) tried but failed her check too
Then me the dragonborn rouge (with an entertainer bg) tried and succeeded so I named him sticky (as I'd stuck to him when I tried attacking him)
I now want a pet mimic
How does it move!!!!
Guys...
Can you disguise this as an entire house?
