The days are getting brighter, birdsong is in the air, Aberrant Mind sorcerers are emerging from their cocoons—spring is here! What better way to celebrate than with some new magic items meant to evoke the renewal of nature? While we love the variety that existing magic items bring, homebrew magic items are a fantastic way to bring spring fever to your table!
Here are five homegrown magic items that are a breath of fresh air:
- Blooming blade
- Ring of the eladrin lord
- Boutonniere of boons and banes
- Marvelous egg
- Wheel of reincarnate
Adding to your homebrew collection
The homebrew magic items below have been shared with the community, which means you can add them to your Homebrew Collection. When you add published homebrew to your collection, it can be used on your character sheet just like official content! It will also be shared automatically with members of your campaigns, so that these other players can enjoy it as well.
If you have an active D&D Beyond subscription, you can add published homebrew to your collection at the click of a button. Simply follow the link to the item, scroll until you find the “Add to Collection” button, and that’s all it takes!
1. Blooming blade
Weapon (longsword), uncommon
You’ve heard about the sword in the stone, now prepare yourself for the blade in the glade! Oath of the Ancients paladins, fighters with a green thumb, and rangers alike will all go wild for this flower-adorned longsword.
The blooming blade is more than just a pretty sword, though. Roll a 20 on the die for your attack and an explosion of petals will charm your enemy! You can also spend all of your free time beautifying your surroundings with druidcraft.
2. Ring of the eladrin lord
Ring, uncommon (requires attunement)
The only constant is change, and any creature that attunes to the ring of the eladrin lord will certainly get a taste of the fickle fey nature that affects all eladrin. This ring’s season will change weekly—randomized by a roll of the d4—and imparts a minor personality quirk in addition to granting the daily use of a seasonal spell. The scene inside the ring will also change to reflect its seasonal temperament!
3. Boutonniere of boons and banes
Wondrous Item, legendary
This colorful bloom might appear to have partially dried up, but don’t let its half-wilted state fool you: This unique appearance is a result of an exceedingly rare magical combination. Having been simultaneously cursed by a hag and imbued with a genie’s power, this decorative flower carries immense magic potential.
Plucking a wilted petal from the boutonniere of boons and banes will grant you the ability to curse a nearby foe, while picking off one of the plump and colorful petals will convey upon you a blessing. You may even find yourself capable of casting wish!
4. Marvelous egg
Wondrous Item, rare
It sounds like something’s moving inside! It must be close to hatching… —Toggeh Prii
There’s simply no way that an egg of this size and colorful design could actually hatch, right? There's only one way to find out, and that is to keep it safe and warm. No walking required!
Provided this marvelous egg is cared for long enough, it will hatch into a pet that is sure to love you and your companions. No, we don’t know what sort of animal is inside. No, there are no refunds. Yes, it will absolutely 100% not be dangerous.*
* Once your transaction has taken place, we bear no responsibility for any outcome—good or bad—that transpires. All sales are final.
5. Wheel of reincarnate
Wondrous Item, very rare
Recent death of a traveling companion got you feeling down? Step right up and spin the Wheel! Of! Reincarnate! Spring is a time of renewal, and with the wheel of reincarnate that comes in spades! Not only does it allow you to cast reincarnate—as long as you provide the material components, of course—but any creature brought back to life will smell fresh as the morning dew! That may be due to their new body’s vine-like hair, but it’s totally going to be a trend this season, we promise.
This hefty (but portable!) wheel can only reincarnate the same creature once per year, however.

I really like the Blooming Blade. charm with a 20? Yes-sir-ee, would go well with my warlock but they don't have longsword proficiency. Also I just like the line "The Blade in the Glade." rolls of the tongue.
the others are cool too! thanks!
While I can understand that for public homebrew as a general rule, is there really no way to override that for content created and/or selected by D&D Beyond staff? It seems a shame to have such pretty artwork but require users to not only copy the item (cluttering up their own homebrew sections) but also reupload the same artwork, just to see what's already there?
I really like these items overall; while I agree with those saying that Blooming Blade being on crit means players are likely to forget, it's still a nice idea for an item (though a once per day Charm Person with a fixed DC might make it simpler to use). I also really like the Marvelous Egg, it's just one of those nice fun items to have. Ring of the Eladrin Lord is also fun, though I might tie it to the current season of a long running campaign rather than randomise.
Are these added to the site so we can select them from the inventory screen?

Aaahhhh!!! Time to add everything to my collection!
I love love those items. They are adorable and fun as the Valentine's ones.
that sword looks and sounds awesome. cant wait to use it with my ranger!
sweetness, these look great
Booming Blade and Wheel of Reincarnate have been added to my collection. This was fun, thank you for sharing.
Great stuff! Keep this kind of articles coming!
it a fun magic item that looks like flowers my guy. dont like it then change its apearence or dont use it. I do find it funny how you think DnD and wedding planing have to be excusive from eachother or that flowers aren't a thing in DnD. I dunno dude your comments made me laugh and confused me at the same time with how pointless it is but thanks for making my day a little more fun!
art looks cool
What does that have anything to do with anything? Haven't we progressed beyond the "Ugh! Girly!" reaction from childhood?
Plus the player characters are not the ones making the magic items; so it probably is an actual boutonnière from a wedding that was both blessed and cursed. Hag/genie weddings are probably pretty riotous affairs. 😝
You also don't need to carry it around everywhere you go, it'll work just fine in a bag of holding until you want to pluck a petal.
I really like these items! Very fun, more of this please.
I was thinking of a sleeping beauty situation where a couple was blessed by good faeries and cursed by bad ones.
My party is about to step into the Feywild chasing after a hag named Ursula The Unwed, so all this talk about Hag/Genie weddings comes at a great time.
yes.
I love the Homebrew content you have been offering!
or, y’know, just a pokemon reference. while yes you have to actually walk in pogo, you still have to walk around ingame to hatch eggs in mainline pokemon
So true
