Ring, uncommon (requires attunement)
This ring features ever-changing designs depicting the four seasons.
Once per week at dawn, roll a d4 and consult the following table to determine the ring’s seasonal temperament, and its corresponding effect. If a spell requires a saving throw, the spell save DC is 13.
d4 | Season |
1 | Autumn. Your spirit of generosity intensifies; you share your supplies and spend your coin more freely. Once per day, you can cast calm emotions. |
2 | Winter. You retreat into an icier mood; your speech and laughter become muted in tone. Once per day, you can cast Snilloc’s snowball swarm. |
3 | Spring. Life feels fresh and vibrant; you habitually hum a pleasant tune quietly to yourself. Once per day, you can cast enhance ability. |
4 | Summer. Your temper rises to the surface; you tend to lash out more readily than usual. Once per day, you can cast heat metal. |
Again I really love it but the spells seem kinda odd, what does heat metal have to do with summer? For spring it should be regrowth and new life, for Autumn it should probably be the expression of emotion in a variety and not suppressing it but winter is spot on I’m glad to see some attention on Snilloc’s snowball swarm.
It's in the name: heat. Also, Summer Eladrin are typically associated with a quick temper, and heat metal is an aggressive spell.
Only if there is metal around and how would any Fey know that spell if they hate metal especially iron? Question
There's a reason why druids get heat metal on their spell list. Druids HATE metal armor. Some people could argue that it's a greater enemy than undead or gnolls.
a spell that burns whoever brings metal near you seems pretty appropriate for something that hates metal
Thank you
I like heat metal, hot metal seems pretty summer like to me and is at a good power level for this item
I have other suggestions though if it really bothers you:
Basically just pick any violent thing that happens in summer. Alternatively you could change the temper effect and choose something nicer.
I agree with dragonfish850 that heat metal is an odd spell for summer; while it kind of fits thematically, mechanically it's a highly situation spell. It's only useful against enemies with metal armour and/or weapons, but if you're fighting monsters with claws it's of no use.
Just feels like the other spells are more generally useful, or at least it's up to the player how often they're useful. I think that burning hands or hellish rebuke cast at 2nd-level could be a better fit?
