Unearthed Arcana and the Revised Ranger
Unearthed Arcana and the revised ranger. With continue to get this one a lot. This was on here last month. I'm just going to say that we do have some level of clearance from Wizards of the Coast, to allow Unearthed Arcana content in the tool set, so I do think that we will have more to share on that pretty soon, but then, for the revised ranger, we will be adding the revised ranger as soon as Wizards of the Coast announces the actual plan for how that's going to work.
I think the most recent news that has come out to the public has been that the revised ranger is likely to take alternate class features as an approach, instead of an entirely different class, entirely new class. It would be the base ranger, what is in the Player's Handbook, but then you would be able to switch out some of those class features for alternate features. So, as that's happening, we are going to stay on the pulse of everything that's occurring, and we are going to follow Wizards of the Coast's lead there, so as soon as we have something that is official, and ready to play, it will be available in D&D Beyond, rest assured.
Fair - my understanding from what was said was that they'd identified the issues that needed fixing and the revised ranger largely did that, but they weren't happy with the way that it effectively replaced the ranger class, as that's not something they want to do.
My understanding is that they're looking at addressing the weakness of the Beastmaster ranger subclass specifically as an updated subclass that allows the replacement/enhancement of some core ranger class features.
As you say though, it's splitting hairs a bit.
I think the safe thing to say is, "It's not going to be published in its current form"
Regardless of the status at WotC, I'd still love to figure out how to make it work as home brew in DDB. The important parts (IMO) are changing the wording for Favored Enemy and Natural Explorer. Neither one really add anything that needs to get included in calculations, just notes on the sheet.
Is there a way to have a subclass remove or override a feature of a base class? I'd be fine with creating a "UA Hunter" subclass, and moving on.
And I wouldn't expect their new version of 'ranger fixes' (which might just be alternate class features) any time soon. Mike Mearls made it clear (during one of his happy fun hours I think) that they are going to do a survey in the fall to see how people feel about the ranger now that Xanathar's is out. Then they'll decide whether to move forward at all. That looks to me like they won't take another swing at it much before the end of the year.
I'm pretty sure the UA Ranger is lost to the bowls of the UA Nine Hells. They made it clear that they feel as though most people are only really unsatisfied with the Beast Conclave than with the entire class in general. As such I'd expect just a revised Beast Conclave before anything else.

Not to get into "bad wrong fun", but I'd still prefer to see animal companions attached to Druid, not Ranger. So, I haven't done any comparison on the Beast archetype (not a fan of the word "conclave", either, since Rangers are loners, not part of secret societies). There really isn't any practical difference between the Hunter paths, though.
As I indicated, above, the biggest improvement I see with the UA Ranger is in how they changed Natural Explorer -- the advantage to initiative and extra attack at the start of combat perfectly evokes the Ranger's ambush tactics without being overpowered or just being a Sneak Attack clone. I also like Favored Enemy doing a bit of extra damage instead of being little more than a ribbon, but I could live, either way.
Those are both things that really don't impact any calculated stats, show up as new "actions" or the like, they'd be easy enough to represent as modified text on the sheet. Right now, the Ranger is the only PC in our group that can't be built in DDB. If it was one of the veteran players, I'd probably just tell them to remember to take the ambush attack and add the damage to favored enemies. Since it's my teenage daughter, who is still trying to remember to cast hunter's mark before attacking, I don't want anything inaccurate on her sheet -- so I'm helping her with a form-fillable PDF.
Perhaps the HD of the ranger 'pet' could rise with ranger level, rather than being fixed. Adding a first level fighter to the part at L1 is OP, but meaningles at 20.
As a player with a Ranger of the Beast Conclave, I miss using D&D Beyond for tracking everything... I even tried homebrewing but alas, it only allows subclass homebrewing... I look forward to the day we allow homebrew classes so I can have my Beast Conclave character in D&D Beyond :'-(
If the RR isn't going to be coming - do we have an update on when we can create our own custom classes outright, so we can use some of the old UA that isn't on dnd beyond?

They dont provide ETAs. I think it’s on the long term roadmap, but I would be very surprised if we see it this year.
Is there any way to get the Unearthed arcana revised ranger in D & D Beyond?
Thank you in advance for the replys

Is there an update to this? I'd like to be able to add the Ranger variant to my characters
that update probably won't happen until after unearthed arcana
Marvarax and Sora (Dragonborn) The retired fighter and WIP scholar - Glory
Brythel(Dwarf), The dwarf with a gun - survival at sea
Jaylin(Human), Paladin of Lathander's Ancient ways - The Seven Saints (Azura Claw)
Urselles(Goblin), Cleric of Eldath- The Wizard's challenge
Viclas Tyrin(Half Elf), Student of the Elven arts- Indrafatmoko's Defiance in Phlan
It probably won't appear on D&D Beyond unless it is reprinted in a new Unearthed Arcana.

Can that even happen?
Why would UA ever reprint something?
Is all hope lost? :(
The important thing to note is that Unearthed Arcana is released as play-test material.
Once Wizards of the Coast has sufficient feedback on an Unearthed Arcana article, they consider play-test of that particular article to be completed.
The existing UA Revised Ranger is not only quite old, but was considered by WotC as a poor solution to the problem.
As seen elsewhere, only NEW UA articles will be arriving on D&D Beyond - these represent current play-test material.
When posts above are talking about "reprint" what they mean is that you are unlikely to see the Revised Ranger on D&D Beyond unless:
a) There is a new UA article published, with a new version of the Revised Ranger.
b) An official WotC book is published, containing the Revised Ranger.
I can pretty much guarantee that you won't see the existing UA Revised Ranger on D&D Beyond.

With all due respect, I don't think this is actually true. The RR was incredibly popular, tested pretty well in playtests, and Jeremy Crawford has spoken about how they're trying to figure out how to introduce it as official material. To be fair, he has also said that it needs further refinement but I'm not sure that's the same as a "poor solution."
Apologies if this is splitting hairs!

That's pretty disappointing, but I guess it is easier to change it with Archetypes and Subclasses than redo the entire Class.
