No spoilers. Don't even discuss the current season.
So far, Stranger Things has given us Demogorgon, the mind flayer and Vecna. Where do they go for the final villain next season? Assuming it's a classic D&D monster. My first thought is Tiamat, because I don't know where else you go after Vecna. Maybe Orcus could work.
Orcus makes more sense since the general aesthetic of ST is weird, necrotic, fleshy plane of existence bleeding over into our world. Orcus, being another Demonic Prince like Demogorgon and the Demon Prince of the Undead, seems like it would fit the bill a bit better than giant, five-headed evil dragon queen.

Could be Acererak on those grounds as well. Tomb of Horrors was and is a very famous adventure.

In the same vein, it would be kind of strange to have either Acererak or Orcus, on account of there being a lich and demon lord already in the show. Perhaps a beholder or something like a vampire? Strahd, anyone?

That’s part of my thinking for Tiamat. It’s Dungeons and Dragons. Got to get a dragon in there.
Given it's all set in the 80's, if they dont end up going through a portal at an amusement park and face off against Venger & Tiamat I think I'll be disappointed.
Gonna give two: Beholder would be more upside down than Tiamat, but I'm gonna say Beholder type floaty monster as minor denizen of Upside Down and Tiamat as the big bad ....
Five heads ... sorta a hive mindy thing to really close the circle on the whole psychic phenomenon aspect of the show. Ooo, maybe Barb became part of the Tiamat, that would be horrific #justiceforbarb

I do have a theory that Erica, Lucas’s sister, will kill him. In the D&D game in the first episode when they fought Vecna, someone attacked him and rolled an 11. 11 was not enough to kill him. Then Erica come up an gets a nat 20 to kill him. Also, later on, she’s painting her mini, and she gives it a black sword. And the Sword of Kas is usually depicted as black.

Wow! I didn’t notice that. That’s really cool.
I was an English major. Parsing details in a work of fiction is my one thing I can do.

I think Strahd. Ravenloft was around back in the 1980s right?
Well, it does seem like Vecna is staying around.

Nice pickup on that foreshadowing. I knew Vecna wasn’t dead because Steve hadn’t hit him with the axe he brought to the Upside Down.
