I'm looking for a good metalic paint in several colors. First, a nice standard shiny armor (I've seen several people use Lead Belcher from Citadel, is it any good?). Next, one for slightly darker armor (if you have it, think that armor on the bugbear mini from Tyranny of Dragons). Then, a nice black one. Lastly, a brighter red type. Anyone got any recommendations?
Depending on what you’re going for, the wash can be more important than the base color. But to answer the question, I sometimes just go to the local art supply store and use whatever brand they have there. They can have a really good variety if you live near a good one, and you can get a good sense of what the color looks like. The containers are bigger, but I find they close better and can end up lasting me longer since they don’t dry out.
Citadel paints are excellent, but very expensive. And they absolutely require thinner/medium. All of that is because Citadel doesn’t skimp on the pigments. But their paint pots suck eggs.
Valejo paints are also excellent, less expensive, are good straight out of the bottle, and their dropper bottles are very user friendly.
If you would like any additional tips, here is an amazing resource:
