I have noticed what I think is a discrepancy on the character sheet.
If you are paying as a dwarf and equip heavy armour without meeting the Str requirement (for example, using Splint with Str 14) the sheet reduced your speed by 10ft.
But - on the dwarf race page it specifically says that wearing heavy armour does not reduce your movement speed.
I have a noob question - why is my walking speed reduced by heavy armor ?
I created my character - https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/illusionare/characters/27667298 and he is proficient in heavy armor and he is a dwarf so his speed shouldn't be reduced by heavy armor but it is reduced and I can't understand why. Sorry if I posted in an inappropriate place, this is my first post.
Maybe the dwarf feature just isn’t coded in so it still counts your Str penalty to heavy armor. You might just have to customize the walking speed by clicking on it...
Yeahhh, this is the answer you seek. Smaller folk not too keen on the ol heavy armor. The racial ability allows you to be able to wear it if you have the str requirement. Other small races can’t use it even if they meet the str requirement. At least that is how I’ve just come to understand it.
You need a strength score of 13 for chain mail and 15 for plate armor.
Your racial proficency doesnt change the requirement for the armor.
I'm not giving you opinion, but the answer you seek...trust me.
Temporarily change it if you dont believe me. Your dwarf is weak. He needs to bulk up.
You don't HAVE to have those strength scores to wear heavy armor. If you don't have those scores, your speed is reduced by 10ft. (That is the penalty) But, dwarves specifically don't suffer this penalty.

Encumbrance perhaps?
It says
I have no idea, could just be a glitch. Delete character and try again?
I already created another character and tried equipping just armor - I have the same issue

Deleted for failing perception roll.
Good catch! I'll pass this along to the team.
Hi Adep,
thank you for the reply! But what about dwarven racial:
Speed
Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Your speed is not reduced by wearing heavy armor.
source: https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/dwarf
Does it not apply to hill dwarfs? Does it not override the strength requirement? What does it override then?
Cheers,
Max
Looks like a coding error. Someone just submitted it to the bugs forum and a mod already replied saying that it is being looked into.
I will attach a topic I created as well - I have the same issue
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/general-discussion/67211-dwarves-heavy-armor-speed-reduction#c7
Thank you, Sigvard!
Here's the link to that topic - https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/67200-heavy-armour-speed-reduction-for-dwarves
And I linked this one there as well. Let's hope the bug gets resolved :)
HI Max
Yeah, that's why i edited it as missed the bit about being a dwarf.
Its cause you dumped strength. You need at score of 13 strength or more to use chain mail properly.
Cleric is a class that dumps dex and takes heavy armor to make up for it.
I would generally agree with that, but what about dwarven racial ?

Cool, thanks for the clarification.
for me personally, 10ft penalty is as good as not being able to wear it all. But yeah.
