I have a variant human ranger, but the only free Feat it's giving me the option for as a variant human is 'grappler'. Can anyone explain this, please? Or point me towards how to override it?
Because that is the only feat that WotC “published” as part of any free content. The company that owns this website is only allowed to provide free access to the stuff WotC releases as free content. The free content only includes two sources: the Basic Rules, and the Elemental Evil Players Companion.
The Basic Rules only include about half of the PHB( all the actual rules, base classes, and base races from the PHB, but only 1 subclass for each class, only 1 subrace for each race, only 1 feat (Grappler), only a handful of backgrounds, and a small portion of the spells), the EEPC includes everything else you have access to.
If we want access to anything else, we have to purchase that content directly from this website as that is to only available proof of purchase. The good news is that DDB is the most cost effective way to purchase D&D materials in the world. You could spend $50 in a store or $30 at Amazon for a physical copy that you have to remember to take with you places, and actually carry around everywhere. And if you bought from Amazon you have to wait two days to get it.
For that same $30 you can get the “Full Version” here which gives you full integration with the character sheet, and you can download the free app and store all your purchases on your devices to access anywhere anytime without ever having to carry anything extra. Or you can just purchase the bits you want, and those purchases do count as credit off the total price if you decide to buy the whole thing later.
So it isn't because choosing your race comes before choosing your class and so only feats available to all classes show up as available?
It seems unlikely that they would block content in the way you describe, because there's no legal standing to enforce this. I cannot tell you the number of character builders for various rpg video games exist where the option of owning a physical copy of the PHB vs Digital copy does not exist yet these websites are free to have a fully functioning character creator.
My campaign I am in apparantly has access to the phb yet the grappler feat is only accessable. No point playing if you not got access to full character builds. Fair enough paying for optional handbooks etc but stuff in the phb should be available to all.

If you had access to the full PHB, you would have access to all of the feats therein.
The PHB is technically optional. As free content, you have access to the Basic Rules & SRD which WotC published for free, and this website compiled together into one sourcebook. That is all anyone needs to play. In addition, we also have free access to everything that was published in the Elemental Evil Players Companion too.
Feats are 100% optional rules, and some DMs do not even allow them in their games.
This website is not owned by the same company that publishes D&D. This website is a bookstore owned by a completely different company. They have to pay the publisher for every copy of every book they issue. If they put the PHB up for free, they would go bankrupt.
It seems unlikely that they would block content in the way you describe, because there's no legal standing to enforce this.
Copyright, Trademark and licensing contracts and the rights to protection of your or your companies owned and created IP enforces that.
If you opened a website right now and called it DnD Extra and included a character builder with all the things that have been released for 5e and marketed it, even for free, Hasbro's lawyers would have a cease-and-desist in your email in no time.
I am having the same issue, so I bought a subscription thinking this would solve the problem but it has not.
I am assuming that the reason might be because the character sheet was made before I bought a subscription... ido s this correct?
If so, do I have to delete it and start again?
Subscriptions do NOT unlock any content (they do unlock some cosmetic stuff and other user's homebrew, but nothing official nor substantial). For the average user, the most significant thing a subscription does is to unlock unlimited character slots. As a fellow hobbyist though, I do not recommend getting a subscription unless you are a GM. As a player, I would just export the old and retired characters into a PDF to save space, and the character builder is easy enough to use that you can recreate any character from your PDF archive any time. As a customer though who wants to see Beyond thrive, I encourage people to support Beyond with whatever amount they feel comfortable with.
In order to have access to other feats, you either need to buy it yourself, or have someone else who bought it and have them share it with you via content sharing within a campaign. You can also homebrew the feats yourself using the tools in private homebrew.
I have several books bought on my other account and only have the grappler feat available to my variant human New character but under level 4 feats I have my whole list.
I had more access to more feats then this last year variant human use to have all the feats listed and now they've all been removed down to only grappler for NO reason. but at level 4 I have access to all of the standard feats? why? i need to double pay for content? **** this.

Going to need a little clarification, as you're talking about another account, is that the one that is missing the feats? If so, I recommend you submit a customer support ticket from that account. No one can help you if you're posting from an account that isn't having the issues.
I was so excited to Subscribe to D&D Beyond to enhance my gaming fun. Then I started making my first character and was quickly disappointed with this site. I get that people working these sites need to get paid, but I expected at least the basic content to flesh out my character. I mean most people would hope for that if paying a subscription cost. And sorry but I'm not paying more money for physical books I already have, especially at some of these costs they expect to be paid.
So save your money and DO NOT waste your time with this sub-par site that is shiny and pretty but falls so very short of just basic content available. What a joke!

How about you read about what you're spending money on instead of having buyer's remorse and/or being a troll.
Not to be repetitive but I'm trying to create a new character, my group has access to all our dms books, and I'm only getting the grappler feat as well. My other characters when i go to feats shows everything available but its only the newly created character sheet wont show all the options.
I'm also having this problem. My husband and I are in the same campaign, DM is sharing all materials, on my account it acts like nothing is shared with me and only gives me basic choices and on my husbands account he's able to view everything. Both accounts are exactly the same and again we are in the same campaign with the same settings, and the same people playing.

Thank you so much for this - fair enough! Cheers for the cost-effectiveness tips, too.
Happy to help!

You can think it unlikely as much as you wish - it doesn't stop it being true.
