You're making me PTSD over a couple of half drow/half dragons some guys rolled up while I was in the army. The rest of the party was literally there to carry their loot.
Honestly I waffle back and forth whether I like the magic resistance or the stats better for barbs. Being able to start with both str and con at 17 so you can raise both to 18 at 4 is kinda nice. I'm going to honorable mention Valenar wood elves with double bladed scimitars now as well.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Played around a bit with some Barbarian builds and found a rather resilient monster in Half-Orc Path of the Totem Barbarian. Would probably get its butt handed to it by spellcasters like most Barbarians, but I don't think there's any other race that I've tried mixing that could practically guarantee that you get back up 3 times in a row after being downed. At least giving you the ability to keep raging and possibly be healed; while also getting at least 1 reaction attack in there as well.
Feats/Ability Mods begin at Level 4: Not sure exactly which order but maxing out Constitution via feats or ability modifiers first and whatever else you can squeeze into Strength.
Orcish Fury Feat: 1 Reaction attack when using Racial Trait "Relentless Endurance".
Tough Feat: Eventually at level 20 HP becomes 325 HP with 20 Constitution (24 with Primal Champion)... pretty sure that's the max anyone you can go before magic/party buffs.
Relentless Rage (lv11): The "interesting" part of this build.
Primal Champion (lv20): +4 to Constitution...
So the fun part about this build is that (at level 20 and most anytime past level 11), you not only have the highest amount of HP any character can achieve physically (325HP at lv20), but with all damage halved (except for psychic of course), we might as say that you have 650HP when raging.
But after that, you have Relentless Rage with a con score of 24 and a con save of +13 (again at lv20 but still just as good at lower levels).
This means that you are guaranteed (upon your first down) to get back up. Even at level 11, you are practically guaranteed to succeed this first time.
Go down again you need only role a "2" to get back up. Next role needs to be a "7" or higher and you are up a 3rd time.
Next role would have to be a "12" <starts to be a bit more iffy after this. Then a "17" which is possible but might fail it.
However, at any point in time you fail one of these, you have your racial trait Relentless Endurance to cover for you; and you can still roll again if you are downed after that.
You are guaranteed to get back up from death 2 times. Almost always 3 times to get back up (Saving you from most single enemy encounters). 4 times would be the Average. And (if you are lucky) up to 5 or 6 times you can come back from being knocked unconscious. <And at any time you have a ally that can manage to heal you, it once again "technically" doubles your HP recovered due to your resistance.
I had to go Goliath, not in terms of stats, although the +2 & +1 are great, but mostly for the RP and flavor that comes with it. My Barbarian would/will be the tank of the group, he's coming in at 8ft 2in, 328lbs, 146hp and wields a monstrous great sword, the image alone is fantastic. Mix that with Totem of the bear, and he's going to be a fantastical nightmare. In my head, the image half works with a half orc, but that's about it. I like to min-max a lot, but sometimes I have to go with the RP/Flavor.
I'm going to honorable mention Valenar wood elves with double bladed scimitars now as well.
Anyone can use a Double-Bladed Scimitar with strength. It's a really good Barbarian weapon for any barbarian, not just elves.
Yes, but the feat for revenant scimitar is elf only...and that feat is good.

More importantly, any DM worth their salt is going to have you run into conflict over being a non-elf wielding a sacred elven weapon. These blades are treasured by the elves and most any elf should be highly offended. This would lead to serious repercussions in any game I DM'd or played in.
I'm a murderhobo. They'd be welcome to make the attempt, and I'd be happy to oblige them the combat they seek!

Hahaha love it. I could actually see that becoming a great story arc for the character. Wanted among various Elven communities you regularly fight off bounty hunters and hunting parties. And you just love it, eagerly waiting for the next battle. What a madman.

Not really for barbarians. They don't care about finesse.
So they can use strength instead of dexterity. I think that's something a lot of folks forget is that finesse means its either-or, not exclusively dexterity.
Now that you can move ASI bonuses around, any race that has magic resistance is mechanically the strongest choice for Barbiarians. Weapons and magic resistance when you rage.

you aren't taking it for finesse my dude. You're taking it for a +1 to AC, +1 to str, and an extra D4 on the BA attack. The only reason you might want finesse, is if you are also MC into rogue to throw down some sneak attack damage while reckless attacking too.

The official version of Revenant Blade doesn't give you an extra 1d4 damage on the bonus action attack. That's the version from Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron. It got changed in the official release.

Hm, so they did. That's a good change. Not enough of a kick in the jimmy for DBS, but better than it was. I'd still say it's worth it to take the feat for the bonus to str and AC.

Once per short rest you can shift, gaining your level + Con mod temporary hit points. ALSO, the Whildhunt feature.....
Shifting Feature
While shifted, you have advantage on Wisdom checks, and no creature within 30 feet of you can make an attack roll with advantage against you, unless you’re incapacitated.

Yes, and I'll repeat what I've mentioned elsewhere - it really opens up Barb/Rogue. Easy advantage + 3 swings to hit = never not get Sneak Attack.
My homebrew subclasses (full list here)
(Artificer) Swordmage | Glasswright | (Barbarian) Path of the Savage Embrace
(Bard) College of Dance | (Fighter) Warlord | Cannoneer
(Monk) Way of the Elements | (Ranger) Blade Dancer
(Rogue) DaggerMaster | Inquisitor | (Sorcerer) Riftwalker | Spellfist
(Warlock) The Swarm
They rock as a zealot

The tortle is also a good choice. Just a flat 17 ac at level one and you don't have to invest so much into dex.
