I mean really anything works. Drums are fun, so are flutes, sometimes you don’t even need an instrument. I’ve had bards that instead use slam poetry and watercolor paint. All really depends on you.
Kazoo is an impeccable choice if you have one on you at the table.
How about a flute made from the horn of an Ibex, one of those long straight twisted horns? Or, if you want to be the center of a scandal, how about the horn of an unicorn?

I just looked up "twisted animal horns" and didn't find what I was looking for, so I checked out the Narwhal. Now, that's what I was thinking about. And there is no reason we couldn't imagine it sounding like a saxophone. I may even talk to my next DM and see if he'd go with me having a narwhal tusk "flute".

So, im making a new Bard for future use. I was planning on him being a Tiefling, but i'm not sure what instrument(s) they should use. Any suggestions

I've been in a jazzy / noire kind of mood recently; and I realized that the official "Horn" instrument could easily be flavored as a saxophone.
A tiefling playing smooth jazz in a smoky nightclub sounds pretty slick.
😂
