I've been playing DnD since I was a child. I'm currently in 3 separate campaigns consisting of 12, 4, and 7 players each. I'm the only repeat in each of these and because of this OGL update each and every one of them is leaving DNDbeyond and the newer campaign is considering switching to a new system entirely as we've only had one session so far.
You know this isn't right and isn't the way to treat your community, and until you figure that out? Well your community is only going to grow smaller and smaller. Mine is not the only thread on this.
Makes me sad, but I can't support a company that is going to blatantly hurt creators and players in this way. I'll be glad to always be in the way of WotC's money.
Time to fire the CEO of wizards. You gambled and lost. You could have held focus groups with 3rd party publishers and come to some sort of mutual agreement. But you got greedy. And now you hurt the bottom line but also wrecked the brand. Me and my group have been using dndbeyond along with the official adventures for a while now. Your greed has made me pause and consider how we play moving forward. Shame on you.
I mean, I'll keep playing d&d, but I won't be giving any of my money to WotC. I'll just stick with the materials I already have from 5e or older editions.
This is somewhat exactly what happened when 4e came out and there was no OGL that covered it. People went back to 3.5 and created Pathfinder.
My current subscription runs through 8/23 and is not set to renew. If I could revoke the remaining months I would. The OGL 1.1 is a foot seeking shotgun shell. I hope someone at WOTC wakes up and realizes this it not the way.
Yep, I'm out, been playing since 1978. The content, art and focus has been terrible lately, and now they are burning the community old and new to the ground as well. That would be final nail in the coffin for me. Master sub canceled.
My subscription is paid until 11/23. I will make sure to NOT renew if OGL is updated and it screws people. I have played and purchased D&D since the 1980s.
I'm also leaving. What a shame to treat your community like this. I'm heartbroken, really. WotC seems the last decent company on planet Earth and here we are. It isn't late. Change your mind and we will come back. Until then... Reap what you sow.
I also encourage everyone to cancel their subscription but also to remember that no matter what pressure we put on them, WotC and Hasbro will always try something like this again to get the money they think we owe them for playing their make-believe game. I've been a strong supporter of D&D since the days of TSR, and I have defended using 5e as the core system for almost every game I've played in the past 6 years. (even if I had to homebrew it a bit) I've bought almost every hardcover book and sourcebook here. I've bought branded minis, spell cards, a couple of B&G premium editions, video games, and more WizKids junk than I'd care to admit. At first I thought that we should pressure them to restore the old OGL so we could keep the magic going, but now I realize that without the the OGL, WotC is just another TTRPG publisher among many others. Most of those others, by the way, have way more respect and trust in the TTRPG community than WotC and have been far better to their employees and the community with their products. And its not like D&D has the best ruleset or the best intellectual properties, it's just been the most accessible. If D&D is just a brand to these people, then let's let them have it; drenched in burning feces and having been pummeled by rotting vegetables. We can do better. We could always do better, but we never needed to. Until now.

Figure it out.
Yep - I'm out
I Cancelled my Master Tier Subscription January 12th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1 - Resubscribed 28th of Jan, now the SRD is in CC-BY-4.0
Yeah I'm with you, if ogl goes ahead as intended it will be the end of d&d for me and my games.
Here's hoping WOTC look at the community and implement something more reasonable if they have to make changes.
Also leaving, too.

Do it now. The more we affect their metrics, the more they will notice.
