Apologies if this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find this specific issue on a cursory search.
If I create a homebrew item that grants just a simple +1 magic bonus to AC without attunement, it doesn't work (AC never gets bumped up).
If I edit that same item and require attunement, it works fine. Is there simply no way for AC to be bumped without attunement due to game design? Or am I just missing something?
I had to modify it to add an attunement slot and then take up that attunement slot to get it to work. So maybe it isn't a great example lol - I can't retract published items, though (which would be a nice feature)

Thanks!
If you used an item that requires Attunement as the template that sometimes happens. Try recreating the item from scratch.

Thanks for the reply - I always create from scratch :/
Can you post a link to that homebrew item? It doesn't need to be public for a mod such as myself to view.
