I have recently upgraded to a Master tier subscription. Before this I had a Hero tier subscription, with all my friends freeloading on my account, to share all the books. I had decided that I wanted the Master tier subscription and after upgrading I asked my friends to transfer their characters. While they were doing this they found out they only had the shared content on the characters that are in the campaign itself. This seems odd, especially since every source online that I can find about it says that they should be able to use shared content outside of the campaign. Unfortunately, these sources are a year old, so i don't know how reliable they are.
My question is: Is this a bug, did I do something wrong setting up content sharing or did it change.
From what I know (because I am the beneficiary of a shared content campaign), this is correct. You can only have 1 character "share" the content. And once they leave, they lose all shared content.
Meaning (for me, as an example): I created a lv 1 Mark of Scribing Gnome Wizard using someone's shared content.
Because the shared content is in the form of a campaign, I have to join the campaign with that character so that I can utilize all content
Once I have created the character, I then have to leave the campaign, so that my character can join my actual campaign (especially if we are playing thru discord & Avrae, this is important)
What that means is that now that I have left "Shared Content" campaign, I now lose access to all the shared content-since its only available thru the shared campaign
So, when you level up and/or find new items/magical items/effects/whatever have you; it is beneficial to leave your campaign, rejoin the shared campaign, do all your adjusting, leave the shared, and rejoin your actual campaign.
Dude..it sounds like a whirlwind, and I'm sorry if I confused you. TLDR; no, you didnt screw up at all XD

Thanks for the help!
no, this is correct. Content sharing only works if the character is in the campaign. While the character is in that campaign, they can read the compendium content without any issue, but they can only pick and use content shared on that character.

Content is not shared with the players, it is shared with the specific campaign itself. Only characters participating in that campaign gain access to that shared content, and their players have access by default. If a player does not have a character in that campaign they have no link to that shared content.
If those characters leave that campaign then any shared content already added to those characters will remain and will continue to function. If they level up they will automatically receive benefits associated from that shared content such as new subclass features, etc. They will not be able to add additional content unless they return to that campaign with the shared content.
You can only have 1 character "share" the content. And once they leave, they lose all shared content.
Both of those points are incorrect. Each player can in fact have multiple PCs in a campaign with content sharing and they all benefit from shared content. And if a PC leaves a campaign with shared content they retain any content already added to their character sheet, they simply loose access to any other content not already added to the character sheet.
Heey everyone.
