Are there plans to include the tables that are background specific? Examples: Charlatan - Favorite Schemes, Criminal - Criminal Specialty, or Entertainer - Entertainer Routines, etc.
To clarify, do you mean adding the tables from Xanathar's guide to the character builder so that you can select an option when choosing the background?
No, though those would be nice too. I am talking about the tables in the Player's Handbook. They are different for each background, and some backgrounds don't even have them. They don't have a dedicated spot on the official character sheet. But it would be nice to have them and the tables Xanathar's Guide gives for class, background, and origin located somewhere in the character building process. Like tacted on at the end of the description section, or something. Not the end of the world if they aren't used, but it would be nice.

So in that case this is a Bug rather than a feature request. The Background specific tables that are present in the data (checked by homebrew using existing background as template), but they never show up in the character creation process.
I would say it isn't a bug. Technically there is no field that it would go into. Each background has a feature, personality traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws. These are all added to the sheet and in the case of all but the background feature, can be rolled to get a result. However, the sheet doesn't have a place for Favorite Schemes or Criminal Specialty etc... 17 of the 31 backgrounds don't have this extra table that is rolled. The official 5e character sheet from Wizards doesn't even have a place for this extra table unless you are putting it in the background spot or backstory area. I would say this is a feature request to create a field for this in the character sheet for the backgrounds that it applies to.
Fair, but even if it doesn't go through to the exported character sheet it should be on the character building process. Especially since it is already a part of homebrewing backgrounds.
To confirm for my own knowledge. Say you create this table in a homebrew background, does it let you roll on it in the character builder same as the personality traits, flaws, etc...?
I wouldn't have to create it because it is already there for the player's handbook backgrounds, but if I did you would be correct. It does not let you roll on the background specific tables in the character builder same as the suggested characteristics.
Go create a COPY_OF_*background (existing background as a template) that will have a background specific table (eg. charlatan). The background specific table will be filled. Then go to the "4. Descriptions" page of the character builder and select the COPY_OF_*background or the actual one. It wont be there or anywhere on the character building process.
Sorry to Necro this post, but will they ever be exposed on the Character sheet? If yes, is there a workaround available either for official backgrounds or homebrew?
So on the recent DEV Update a question was asked and I believe he was meaning this issue. Compared to the obviously working other background tables. These tables really should be apart of the character building process. They are already a big part of character building when building using pen and paper.
Another big official example is the Guild Artisan table "Guild Business". It helps determine what you artisanry was. This table, while official, does not appear at all in the character builder.
You can just roll on the table (using dice or a digital roller) and put it in the Description->Notes->Backstory box. That is where you would put that information on a paper sheet anyway.
Are there plans to add the Specialty section with the table(s) to the character sheet? I have run into some trouble making newbie oneshot using the character builder, because there is no Specialty section for Backgrounds.

To be honest they're RP fluff and I see no reason why they cannot be added to your backstory or notes boxes manually. Some of us don't use those tables (I never have) and would prefer the table is not some mandatory added thing. I very much prefer it the way it is: it's not added or anything and only there if you need it, and if you do, just note it manually. I cannot begin to imagine why this would have caused you problems.

By the same logic, the personality trait tables didn't need to be added for the background since it's just RP fluff too. I don't see any of it as fluff to be honest, with my players. It informs what they know or how their reputation proceeded them. An Enforcer Criminal & a Burglar Criminal will have different reactions from an NPC running a shop, for example.
The thing is I am making dozens of different character sheets for a level 1 newbie event. It was maddening not seeing something in the builder that I know should be there, after reading the PHB so much. I honestly thought I was doing something and wasted time trying to fix it. I am glad I found this over a year old thread. Also having to do extra work, putting the specialty in notes, is ridiculous when those tables are in the PHB. In short, I bought books. I want what I paid for in the builder, please.
And honestly it's fine that you don't use it, more power to you, but I actually like using what I paid for.
I've struggled a lot trying to make the specific tables work, until I found this... Anyone heard about fixing this? If not I think I'll just include them on the description for the players to see them.

You already can do this when making a background.
I recommend reading the workshop post by James Introcaso about backgrounds - it is incredibly helpful. You can find this here: http://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/156-design-workshop-backgrounds

I too have a problem with this. The table does not show up anywhere.
Did you figure it out??
The background specific tables are currently not exposed in the character sheet.
I am the Inquisitor Imperitus. I am judge, jury, and executioner. Draw your last breath now, as I send you to the Nine Hells.
Ahh okay. Then I can stop trying to get it to work :P Hahaha.
You could add that info on the Custom Background Creation site :)

Background-Specific tables still do not appear during character creation. Maybe this should be removed from the tutorial? https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/156-design-workshop-backgrounds
