I've been wondering for a while, is there any way to register my existing collection of physical books (5th edition Player's Handbook, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Volo's Guide to Monsters, and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes which I ordered today and should arrive next week) to my DnD Beyond account?
I've looked on the site but can't seem to find any answers besides buying digital copies for my account which is not preferable as they're full price and I really don't want to find myself buying the same books twice.
Thanks. I had a look and it's disappointing (and feels a little rude if I'm honest) that I'll have to buy my books again as digital copies. At this point I'm asking myself if I should continue with DnD beyond, or just stick to writing things down on a piece of paper.
You can always return those that you had just ordered and buy the digital versions here. Some special circumstances have both digital and physical bundled together if I am remembering right. However, you don't get one for free; you pay for two versions of one book.
I like having physical copies of the books. There's something enjoyable about having a physical item you can flick through. An electronic version has it's uses, yes, definitely.
It's just baffling that the system on DnD Beyond doesn't support a pre-existing books collection.
It does support a preexisting book collection. You just have to do a lot more lifting yourself in the form of homebrew. You can make literally any monster, subclass, feat, item, and species using their homebrew system if you are adamantly against spending money. I myself had a fairly long list of homebrew I made that was taken right from the books. Just don't try to publish it to the public homebrew and you are golden. Eventually, I grew tired of doing the work myself though and just bought the content for convenience. The option is available to you however.
