They do offer bundles of both physical and digital when purchased directly off their website. However, it cannot be implemented for books purchased elsewhere. There's many legitimate logistical and financial reasons which have been discussed to death, resurrected and discussed to death again, over and over and over and over. There are also selfish reasons - which, isn't unexpected from any company seeking profits in a market as unstable as this one.
Thanks for the suggestion about the bundles, i haven't seen exactly what i'm looking for yet, but who knows i may have missed it. i don't disagree regarding the financial reason, business is business after all. if you don't make a profit or fail to adapt you cease to exist. preferably understandable

Don't for get sales here on DDB, I picked up Tasha's for a little over $16 last month and will wait for a sale to pick up the physical book later. That was the sale price then my discount from purchasing the legendary bundle a few years back. You can save money if you're patient. I have more books on DDB than physical books mostly from the bundle purchase.

Think of it as a side quest.
I buy the books on dndbeyond because of the price and ease of use on this site. If I like the book, I'll go pick it up from my local game store too.
oooow a hyperlink for easy access. nope still prefer GW version of their access real books have a code and you get all the above hyperlinks and all just buying the books and to create your army you subscribe. So, no, they have no excuse.
No they do not offer anything special. Games Workshop App If you purchase a book with the code it is also yours digitally and you get access to them do a mo. sub to get access to army builder options. Now many things are free but the only difference to dnd books through here are the links. Real books that's what we had DM screen and bookmarks for. I am going to purchase them on DND BEYOND but not the real copies of 5th. Box sets though I will get at the store/online.
Forgive my ignorance if this is a foolish question. I understand that physical books come from other retailers so they cannot be used. But, is there a way for me to add the compendium without buying a second copy of the book. For example, even if I don’t have the Elemental Evil’s Player Companion I can still make a Goliath, Genasi, or Aarakocra character in the Character Builder. Is there a way to purchase just the access to the character options and things like that without purchasing the text?

For Elemental Evil, no because they're free and unlocked. But for other things, yes you can buy things piecemeal. Marketplace, click on book title, scroll down. You can buy individual options or bundle of options. Amount paid will act as a discount off the book if you do end up wanting to buy it later.
That’s only because the physical copies are physically manufactured the digital copy’s will absolutely cost less because they don’t have to pay for materials and printing
Regardless of everything you just said wouldn’t it still be nice to be able to have easier access to you books that you physically bought with a code. Don’t think about the cost or price this discussion was started because someone thought it would be cool and convenient to have access to the books he already bought physically. Don’t you think it would be convenient to have a system like this in the future of dnd?

It costs money to build and maintain this website.

If you want both physical and digital products, you have to buy both separately. Alternatively, if you can buy the physical-digital bundle straight from Wizards' website.

Weird to get a notification to a post I made almost 3 years ago. Don't know why I was tagged in particular, especially since I haven't been active for awhile because of WotC's actions and other real life things. Of course it would be convenient, but at the time DNDBeyond was not owned by WotC and there was no way to prove you physically owned the books to get a digital copy, but that may be changing now with the physical/ digital bundles.
Several better and more friendly gaming companies now send you a PDF when you order a physical book, so maybe look into those.

It makes no difference to me, I don’t buy physical books, just digital. If having a code in the physical books makes the digital ones cost more I’d just as soon them not do it.
They should get paid, just not at the expense of the average joe having to buy the same stuff twice.
Somebody has to pay. If it is not the average joe, then it certainly is not the business themselves. No business will invest in digital products if customers do not pay for it.
You don’t buy the same stuff twice. You buy the physical copy and then you purchase digital access. Those are two separate things. You don’t want to buy both, then don’t.
Forgive me if this was already discussed, I don’t have time to read 11 pages of comments. Didn’t D&D Beyond and WotC merge back in 2022? What reason do they have not to include D&D Beyond unlock codes in their physical products now? Pokemon Online does it just fine. Seems like they’re competing with themselves.

TTRPG monetization is also different from CCG monetization. If you want something like Pokémon TCG Live, there is Magic: The Gathering Arena. And even then, what you redeem in the online version of the game with Pokémon code cards are not going to be the same cards that you have physically.
At one point, the first printings of the physical box of the Essentials Kit did come with codes to redeem the digital product on Beyond, but later printings did not come with codes. If they had to backtrack on a product that was released, then it probably was not financially feasible in the first place, let alone doing that on a wider scale.
If you want both the digital and physical products, you will have to buy the digital-physical bundles that are only available from Wizard's online store, and only certain books have the digital-physical bundles.

It is what it is and is unlikely to ever change.

WoTC owns dnd beyond now so there really isn't a valid excuse anymore
Hence why you can now purchase physical+digital bundles from the WotC store.
