I am receiving an error message on a private subclass that I would like to publish. What is this message referring to? I used no links in the subclass.
"This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass."
What does that mean though? Does that mean we can't use the spell bracket code? e.g. sleep? Or we just can't have spells in our subclasses additional spell list?
To repeat what Stormknight said - it means what it says. You can use spells but they must come from the basic rules - which means the free ones. Anything licensed (paid-for) can't be used - if you want to publish it.
You're free to add licensed content - but if you do so you cannot publish it. But then - to use it in your own campaigns you don't need to publish.
Well that's... not very clever. It's just a link, why is that an issue? Anyone using the homebrew who doesn't have the spells paid for can't see it anyway.
I don't think the link is the issue. Probably the class granted spells, or gave access to spells in its "additional spell list", which are either homebrew or not in the SRD. That's where I would look.

What I meant is that in principle, it is a link. As opposed to copying the spells descriptions. Meaning that those who purchased said spells will be able to see them (and that's alright) and those who didn't won't be able to see them anyway. So what is the issue?

You can only use free spells if you want to publish homebrew. Look up which are in the SRD, those are free to everyone. Anything published in the Player's Handbook, Xanathar's, etc will flag the same error you're getting.

Yes and no. What I mean is that:
Everything in the Basic Rules & SRD are also published in the PHB, it’s just the PHB exclusive spells that are disallowed.
All the spells in the EEPC are also free to use, and so are therefore also allowed in public homebrews. However, those spells are all also published in Xanathar’s Guide, it’s just the Xanathar’s Guide exclusive spells that are disallowed.
The confusion over which spells are allowed and which aren’t regarding the crossover among those👆sources is more than a little understandable IMHO. You’re absolutely right about the “etc.” books, they’re all paid content, and therefore completely disallowed.
One can find the complete list of all the spells acceptable for inclusion in public homebrew can be found →HERE← if anyone wishes to reference it.

I'm not sure why you guys think I don't understand the "what". What I don't understand is the "why". IMO it should be possible to publish homebrew with paid spells because it doesn't reveal anything. But I feel like saying the same thing again and again...

Because anyone who were to download it would only be able to use an incomplete version of your homebrew unless they purchased those spells, and then these forums would be inundated with complaints and bug reports about it and DDB doesn’t want to deal with all of that nonsense.
I have a Paladin subclass I’m working on publishing, and I’ve changed all the oath spells to ones that appear in the Basic Rules. Yet somehow I’m still getting flagged that the subclass has licensed content mapped to it. There are no external links. There are no copy/pasted lines of text from official subclasses, just rewritten. There’s nothing here that should suggest that, at least not to my knowledge. What else besides spells would flag this?

Any specific spells tied to anything other than SRD or Basic/Free rules will cause the flag of license conflict.
Try changing the spells to the appropriate free versions, and/or homebrewing the ones not freely available.

All of those spells are in the Basic Rules, so it doesn't seem like it's a problem on your side. There have been issues in the past with this thing erroneously considering certain spells to not be "free", so you might want to submit a support ticket.

If you noticed the spells linked are stating they are from the PHB and not the Basic Rules. It’s the source from where the spell is referenced that can cause the flag.
I think the legacy and or homebrewed tag is tied to the basic rules/SRD and the homebrewer needs it to check for non licensed content. [ instead of saying at the bottom that it’s from PHB it should say Free/Basic Rules. ( i don’t own the 2024 PHB so it shouldn’t be visibly readable, but it still works as if its the basic 2024 rules.) ]

This is not correct. Spells that are in both the Basic Rules and the Player's Handbook don't have separate copies. There is only one way to reference them in a homebrew subclass — you do not get to "pick" a source that they're referenced from. Please don't spread misinformation when people are looking for help.

I’m not. If you search for the Haste spell specifically you’ll see what I mean. At the bottom of the spell after the tags is the source reference. It will say ether 2014 basic rules or some reference to where it can be found in a book.

At the bottom of the 2024 version it refers to the 2024 PHB, instead it should be 2024 Basic Rules.
It read the 2024 version as from the 2024 PHB which is a paid license, so it sets the public homebrew publish flag for license violations.
The 2024 Basic Rules are tagged as 2024 PHB content. Kinda big difference that is the cause of the recent wave of homebrew public license warnings.
Recent site maintenance tends to break things.

It means what it says - your homebrew uses content that isn't in the SRD / Basic Rules.
This is typically spells.

There are two versions of Haste when you search because there's a 2014 version and a 2024 version. That's not really relevant to this issue.
