My group is currently running through the Forgotten Realms. One thing that that would be nice is to allow the use of custom currency. We entered Waterdeep and now have some "Taol" and a couple "harbor moon". It would be nice if we could enter those as custom currency for tracking within the app. As of now, we have to just list them manually in the other items section.
I'm not really up on my Forgotten Realms currency nomenclature, but aren't those things you describe made up of gold and silver or are they something vastly different than that?

Taol are brass coins worth 2 gold in Waterdeep and "virtually worthless to anyone not trading with Waterdeep". Harbor moons platinum + electrum coins worth 50 gold in the city and 30 gold outside.
Yeah, but for game-play purposes, what is the difference between having like 20 Taol and having "40gp worth of Taol".....as long as the DM is running a game in Waterdeep? Basically counting odd currencies as "art objects."
As InquisitiveCoder said, it is a narrative thing, but the problem is that I end up keeping track of the money separately in text so that I have two sets of currency to track. The situation is not horrible, but would be a nice enhancement to see.
As a DM, this is an area I want the players to enjoy. I describe the local currency values but when it comes to buying equipment, it's this much gold or that much silver. I let the NPCs trade in those denominations. It's confusing for players and an excuse for them to say: Look, there's Waterdeep! Let's all wave!! Bye, Waterdeep.
I say it because it's happened. My old group HATED adventuring around Waterdeep for just this reason. So, I had to scrap an entire adventure and run something on the fly. No one other than me noticed, but I was sweating like a gnome against an ogre!
I feel we may see this one day added in an inventory update. However I think this is like spell point and simmilar things where its a niche request so may end up lower downthe priority queue. Mainly because 5e seems to be even if at the moment focused on the FR it seems to be trying with adventures and currencies to try and keep them setting neutralish (in terms of loot and creatures rather than locations and names) so i imagine DDBs focus is to support the primary currencies. I also imagine if they do make custom currency one that has two values based on loaction (because i could see part of the creation process being how my sp or gp is it equivalent to) may still be difficult to put in, (so may sstill be some work for you though notably not as much).

You’d think it would be simple, but I run a campaign with a silver-based economy (shillings) and the players grouse endlessly about having to convert it to D&D standard. Being able to customize the currency types and their comparative values would be a very nice feature.
I'm in a game where having the wrong face on your coins can get you killed and we adventure on both sides of the border. It would be nice to have custom money types for keeping track.

You can store money in containers now, so you could add a separate pouches to your character sheet and rename them to reflect the different countries and store the different currencies in their respective pouches.

Sounds weirdly complex for just table play.
It's a narrative thing. They're used by traders for large transactions.
If you think about it they're not too different from picking up gemstones or art objects, they're just location-specific.

Wondering where this is at? It’s probably relevant to a lot of groups now, since Dragon Heist is out.
