I just want to add my voice to the others here that there should definitely be a way to customize the attack bonus in the custom actions. It seems like a no-brainer to me, and I'm a bit disappointed in the responses that have come back. Please take the time to do this simple request (which should have honestly been there in the first place on a custom action).
I ended up just going the route of adding another weapon to my character that I customized, and then making it 0 weight.
I'm fairly confident that no one from D&D Beyond ever visits the Feedback forums at all.
On the contrary. They have said repeatedly that they read the forums and add feedback and suggestions to portals designed to collect such things. Just because they don’t always post doesn’t mean they aren’t reading. You can quickly tell which threads have comments from staff when looking at the the list of threads for a given forum: there la a large, faded red B just to the left of the last post column. On the first page of the feedback forum, I count 5 such threads, not counting sub forums, many of which have posts by staff. Those counts do not include threads where moderators have chimed in.

They do. Not often, though, they're super busy and our whining won't change their priorities for a variety of legitimate reasons. They note it, and then go back to their work.

One of my players is running drakewarden and I'm trying to add his drake's bite. The problem is it should be a +5 to hit and a 1d6+2 on hit but I can't get the hit to be +5 without increasing the damage bonus past two. Any tips?

This currently can’t be done using Custom Actions, but you can still represent this attack on the character sheet in a number of ways. My preferred method would be to create a feat representing the Drake Companion, and give that feat a Bite action, using any Ability Score Type, and simply giving it the appropriate Die Count / Type and Damage Type. When added to your character sheet, you will be able to Customize the action granted by this feat to have either a To Hit Override or To Hit Bonus, and a Damage Bonus, which can be used to dial in the appropriate bonuses for your current Drake Companion.
I would also suggest including a snippet that calculates your companion’s expected bonuses, to check that you’ve properly calculated the bonuses at your current level:
{{3+proficiency#signed}} to hit, 1d6{{proficiency#signed}} piercing damage
You will have to remember to adjust this action’s To Hit Override / Bonus and Damage Bonus whenever your own proficiency bonus changes, but the action will be rollable on the sheet!
Snippet codes can be entered in any field called Snippet, and they are meant to provide condensed at-a-glance information. You can learn more about snippet codes here!
I guess it's not necromancy but I just want to add another voice, the fact that this isn't an option is strange and inconvenient. Give us the option to modify attack rolls please?
For me, I'm trying to use Sharpshooter - a toggle button for the Sharpshooter feat would meet my current needs. But... why isn't this an input field when custom damage is?
For sharpshooter I add a second version of the weapon to the character sheet and customize that. With the new inventory system you can chuck it in a container way down the bottom and equip it, but not the container, so there’s no additional weight added to the character. When customizing a weapon you can customize both the attack and damage rolls independently.
It's an Adventurer's League game, and with the DM settings we use, I can't customize weapons (all equipment has to be from a published source). This isn't just a courtesy thing - the feature to customize weapons is turned off in my UI for this character.
I *can* add a custom action, and I *can* customize the damage of that action. Just not the to-hit 🤷
I wanna add yet another voice to this petition, as it seems it's gone ignored for years.
It's not just about convenience with GWM, it's also about fixing something that the dnd beyond isn't doing right, which is taking into account magical weapons for anything other than the base attack.
I'm using GWM with a +1 Glaive and while my regular action attack takes into account the +1 for both the hit and the damage rolls, my bonus action with the butt-end does not. It doesn't even show the correct reach of 10 ft. Same with the Polearm Mastery Opportunity attack.
I'm surprised the devs haven't addressed this by now, specially when people have been asking for nothing but a bandaid.
Here's hoping the WotC acquisition helps them grow enough to address this kinda things, maybe hopefully even expand to an online platform for actually playing games...
I love how four years later, the answer to “why can’t I do this simple and obvious thing” is still “you can! Just do these seven complex and arcane steps, and it will simulate the simple and obvious thing!”
we just got Stranger Things Vecna backgrounds though, so at least we know the dev priorities are player-focused!

Well, technically it’s as simple to do as 1st-grade arithmetic. Simply subtract 5 in your head and add 10 in your head. It’s not difficult, it’s basic subtraction and addition. A six year old should be able to do it.

I agree. At the end of the day dndbeyond is a digital character sheet, not an immersive PC controller. What does that mean though? It's a very interactive and customizable webpage that emulates a pencil and paper for putting all your necessary information within just a few clicks or swipes. Asking for stuff like "Why can't you automate this or that?" are annoying. If you want a video game, go play a video game.
You should not automate things that are not automatic.
Got a +1 weapon, yes of course put the stats in to reflect such a thing. Great Weapon Master or Sharpshooter is something a player calls when making the attack. It's not automatic. It's not every single time. If you can't math in your head like IamSposta suggests, then add a second item and customize it to fit what you want. It's not that hard.
"But I shouldn't have to". Blah, cry me a river. Go fill out a character sheet by hand, with a pencil, and tell me you didn't write two different GWM or SS attacks, one for regular, one for called?
You want to suggest something useful for the developers to think about? How about negative modifiers in To Hit or Damage rolls, I know they don't work somewhere. Perhaps Health or Temp HP as a damage type so the digital dice display HP or Temp HP on custom action rolls?

Where do you enter that? Does D&D Beyond actually parse and render that correctly someplace?

Necromancy! This would still be nice and is still oddly impossible. Why can we edit damage but not to-hit? :(

The option to jump through various hoops for this have always been around, it's just stupid that we can't simply do it on the fly for whatever reason.
You can do it on the fly, Simple adjust your weapon by modifying the to-hit and damage modifiers directly.
