Request is basically for the ability to program magic item specific actions to appear in the actions section of the character sheet, like how you can in races and classes. Bonus points if the listing has a toggle for active or not (example. i have a homebrew weapon that can summon a shield as a bonus action. The shield summon appears under the bonus action tab and has a check box that when hit raises the characters AC by 2).
Complicated, yes, but that would make my life as a homebrewer that little bit easier. It would even just be nice to at least get this for official items, like defender (Have an intractable under the 'other' actions tab that lets you choose what points go where).
It's been about a year since the original, but it doesn't seem to be implemented yet; I checked the trello roadmap and wasn't able to find the card. I know development takes quite some time and other features are often higher priority, but I'm curious, is this still planned?
I regularly post about requests and bug fixes for the homebrew aspects of the site. Unfortunately, their priorities seem to be on the social aspects of the site, as opposed to the practical. They claim to have data suggesting improving those aspects of the site will benefit the most people.
I personally don't consider the thousands of people who check out the site for 5 minutes, test the social aspects and character creator, and never log in again to be more important than the vocal minority of homebrewers who dump hundreds of dollars into the site and actually use/care about its features. But thats just me.
And just because i know Dave and DJ will on soon, just to reiterate;
What the DDB team has done so far is amazing. Theres no other service like DDB on the internet, i couldn't do better, and DDB's brought nothing but positive to my table. All im hoping to achieve with my posts is represent my interests as a paying customer, and maybe having those interests being a little more weighted when you guys make the decision on what to develop next.
EDIT: ...cause i cry inside a little every time i check the trello, and see that homebrew rework still stuck in long term.
I woud love if this feature was implemented so much...
IMO, it would be very convenient for most magic items' effects to be shown in the "actions / special" section. If the cleric's Divine Strike ability is shown there, the magical helmet's similar ability also should. And that's not even considering the items that literally give their owners special abilities that can be used as actions / bonus actions.
Via artificer infusions, you can infuse some regular boots to be Boots of the Winding Path, which gives you a bonus action. I've tested this in an artificer character sheet and it does indeed add a new bonus action to my list. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a way to tap into this via a magic item created in the homebrew system. I tried to create a homebrew item and use the Boots of the Winding Path as the basis for it, but I couldn't choose that as an option. So it looks like there are ways under-the-hood to make magic items that enable new actions, but that system isn't exposed in the homebrew system yet.
So if you, like me, are trying to make magic items to represent infused items used by other characters that they can equip in their character sheet via homebrew items, then there isn't a really clean way to do it. We are getting by through adding custom actions.
That is a different thing from what I am trying to achieve.
You are adding additional actions/bonus actions. Which I honestly think is easy enough to just tell a player, this is how to works, we're good from there/they read it. Most people do the same with temporary effects such as slow and haste for example (although being able to apply a spell effect to a character sheet would be nice).
I would love it if I could add additional stuff to appear in the actions section where all the weapons are and have a button there to use that action. Which in turn could then be wired up to expend or regain charges on the correct item or feat.

Yup, this is planned. Adding the actions system to magical items will really open up options.

Glad to hear! I eagerly await.
Has this been implimented?

Well, it makes sense. Everyone knows that "Social Features" are essential to capturing the younger, less enfranchised "CEO" market. /s

Fair enough! I do love the platform, wouldn't be using it otherwise. 😁
My snark was intended in good humor, as one who has been part of her fair share of corporate software dev teams. Keep on at it, y'all are great. ❤

Really looking forward to this.
Ive been "looking forward" to it for years.... Don't be like me, getting your hopes up will lead to disappointment on this site.

The priority seems to be on the digital dice sets I loath
