Folks - I'm going to step in here and remind everyone to go read the Site Rules & Guidelines. Personal attacks, as well as implying that there is only 1 way to play D&D will not be tolerated.
Improved inventory features will be coming, not with the release of the revamped character sheet, but shortly after. Badeye covered this question in the monthly &Beyond Dev Stream that occurred on Friday.
I don't want to lock the thread, but if I keep seeing individuals imply that how someone else plays the game is wrong, this will be shut down.
Containers are a thing coming, and I'm grateful for that. I do have characters where things are in separate containers other than just my pack, and yes, knowing what's specifically in the Bag would be good incase it gets stolen or lost. For small, mundane stuff, I do just put it in my "Possessions" spot. It's not like I go around being like "Oh, I'm just gonna grab this grandfather clock and take it with me". The inventory is pretty much fine for me, beyond the containers. But yeah, that's one of the things being added.
I think the character sheet revamp is going to be great, but this is definitely a feature that I feel is needed as well.

Yeah, tell me about it. I really, really, really can't wait for containers. Also, coin value being spent on purchasing items (with a toggle to turn it off for giving items) would be super.

I really would like a "shop" containers, Some default "mundane store" and some that the GM can setup so that when you run across a store or merchant the GM can turn on permissions to present characters to a "store" tab and anything you add from the store to the character will put a cost on one side and an item on the other as well as which the character its going to, then players can add payment to individual items or the total form personal funds or group funds until it covers the purchase. With an option for GM adjustment, per item or total, so that if the group or a player is just grabbing some mundane stuff the GM can open a store every run through and check out for a quick trip to the store with no negotiating or if a player or players wants to role play some haggling the GM can make some adjustments on the fly but the GM doesn't have to read off everything because players can "see it". This would will speed up "store" encounters immensely and game play when the group would otherwise waste an hour buying for the GM to list every item (some times repeatedly), players to list what they want, and players to figure out where the money is coming from. Like everyone browsing on their own and running up to the counter together to figure out how to deal with it.
This requires 1.A separate container in the Campaign owned by the GM, 2. A way to mark valuables as "group funds" in containers, 3. A way to mark containers and individual valuables as accessible or not accessible so you can protect funds/items you or your group are saving and annotate items at distant camp, character not present, etc and 4. A way to add remove players to and remove players from the shop so that they can use their inventory and make selections but only the GM approves the final sale.
I don't see this coming soon due to additional support it would require but this has potential to make what is sometimes a long a boring part of down time a couple of minute bump in the road. My GM, makes shopping part of the story sometimes but other times its a hassle we all just want to get thought. As an option its great quality of life and of course anyone who doesn't feel the need for it can just add an item to their character and delete the gold. We currently have 8 players in our group and talking through that all just takes time and also has no anonymity, because if one player wants to run to the store and pick something up the player has to say it out loud telling the group, where the store lets a player make a purchase that only the GM and player know about. Which is interesting from a role play perspective without making all the other players leave the room... which of course will make everyone suspicious.
Maybe too much for some players, but if it was on the bottom of the long list, I would be happy.

The lack of inflection in text means that a reader of any post adds their own inflection as they "verbalize" it in their head. I write long and repetitive in an effort to be clear and avoid my intent from being skewed or inverted. I am also bad at examples. It is common for people to skim my posts pull out the idea they think I mean or want to argue against or focus on my bad example instead of the point I am actually trying to make. I apologies for the confusion my failure to be clear and concise creates.
Any updates on the expected release date? I know you can't comment without knowing for sure, and all software has unexpected delays. Just super excited.

From the Dev update last Friday - DDB Q2 (ie sometime between April and June).
The short term roadmap on the last Q&A had MToF listed before the sheet revamp release. That doesn't mean anything, but to me it says to expect it sometime after May 18th.
That being said, on the March Q&A, the sheet revamp was listed before Homebrew Subclasses, and here we are, so I would take my guess with a grain of salt, but I'm not going to let myself get antsy about it until after the new book is out.

I was also noting the same. I was REALLY hoping to have this prior to the new book but it makes sense that DDB secure a smooth launch of the new book before upgrading current systems. Hard deadline for book launch. That stated, I check the website changelog daily with the hope to see "NEW CHARACTER SHEET REVAMP LIVE" with all of the implied trumpeting fanfare and joy those words will bring! I'm really looking forward to making a ton of new characters on the sheet and even more excited to use them during play.
As soon as the new character sheet is live, I'm guessing we will all move on to the next thing we really want the team to implement. (Containers?!?)

I'm really good at making really bad guesses, so here's one.
The Dev Update is normally on the 3rd Friday of the month. That would be this Friday, the 18th, and no word on it yet.
Maybe, just maybe, they're at the finish line. Maybe they don't want to do another Q&A where they just say "Soon!" Maybe the sheet is coming next week, and they're pushing the stream back to coincide with the launch of the sheet. Maybe...

Probably not, but maybe!
The dev update was announced for the 25th a couple of hours ago.

I hope we get it soon but I have a feeling it will be while, I think they may be stuck in paralysis by analysis but I hope I'm wrong.
