Major announcement two days after Spelljammer comes out that physical and digital books will be bundled in the future. With the half-completed nature of the most recent release, this really feels like a cheap money grab. I am scared of what DnD Beyond will become. Not a fan of this DnD One thing -- I feel like they're going to use it as an excuse to start charging MTX and way more $$. /end rant

I want to really hammer home the point on one specific piece:
START charging microtransactions? My friend, tabletop gaming is a giant set of microtransactions. Books, figures(paints and brushes too), playmats, tokens, cards, you name it.
Being fair to Wizards, they acquired D&D Beyond after Spelljammer was announced. I would try to not feel personally jilted over it. That said it's REFRESHING to hear 16+ months in the future that they will be bundled. That's information we got IN ADVANCE BEFORE IT HAPPENED. That's pretty rare for D&D Beyond.

Err, I guess you hadn't seen the Dragonlance preorder banner yet...

But I gather it will only be certain new releases that get bundles before 2024, and then there will be a lot more offered.
also...people have been asking for this for years, DNDB and WoTC finally start making it happen and literally the first post is how much you hate it.
They really can't win can they?
I was thinking the exact same thing. When they announced it, my first thought was “Thank the gods, the complaining will end” and the very first thread I see after the announcement is how WotC is uber big bad evil corporation. The worst customers really are fans.
The Dragonlance bundle is explicitly called out as a test run - a means for Wizards/DDB to explore what works, get a feel for how the whole process needs to happen, and then improve on it in the future. They want to incorporate FLGSes into it but haven't figured out how yet, they want to smoothen the process but don't know where the roughness is. Let them have their test run, let them see how the process works, then refine it from there.

Oh I had, but like Yurei pointed out this is the test. I'm not going to hold it accountable to the final product but they want to have bundles for digital/physical for One D&D.
So are all the physical books going to be £60 now or is this some special £60 bundle that you can only get through WOTC?
Also that One D&D Table top looks cool, but I guarantee those miniatures are going to be digital loot boxes like the physical blind boxes :(
It's still pretty early to know. Theres an amazon placeholder for a dec 2022 book thats 50 USD, which is standard pricing. RIght now its a waiting game to see when its listed through other retailers what the price is. That said, for a lot of people? This would be a huge push toward digital. 50 USD but 60 for the book plus digital options? Right now its 80 assuming zero discounts/sales.
The digital only costs $29. I was thinking this was just the cost of the digital and physical added together? Not much point in a bundle if you're not getting a discount though.
Honestly, I was willing to be upcharged for a Digital + Physical version. However, I am not willing to pay twice the price of Digital and 12+ Dollars in shipping. This offer does not currently seem lucrative especially with a content push to move people into a digital space.

yes, and physical ($50) plus digital ($30) is $80. The bundle is $60. If that doesn't count as a discount, i don't know what else meets that definition.

I have never actually payed MSRP for a Physical D&D book though. That MSRP might as well be a fake price.
Edit: For clarity, I am happy they are offering the bundle; it is just not something I am interested in at the current price point.

I have said it before... WotC could hand out bags of money with each book; people would complain about the color of the bag.
CHANGE IS SCARY! I think the concern about quality of books is fair, as it the last few books are provable light on content, but these type of changes were cool, and they won't be out to 2024, so its not like if they announced it before Spelljammer came out it was going to change anything.
I think being excited about the upcoming changes is a good thing, but we need to also keep voices raised about the quality of the last couple books and how lite they are on details, as that is valid.
For me, as someone who has of the Legendary Bundle, it is a shame that us owners don't even get a penny off. I'm fully aware that'll be a decision made by Wizards, but I would've personally been far more inclined to buy the physical book straight from this store. Ah well! Probably still buying it anyway ;)

The bundles will also be in 2024, so it's announced 2 years prior, not for right now..

Worth noting, from the FAQ:
So your legendary/sourcebook/adventure bundle discount doesn't apply.

I hope these bundles are available in stores, because with the shipping factored in you're not making any saving really.
It would be cool to know if preordering the bundle still gets you all the DNDbeyond preorder bonuses
