For me, the options on worldbuilding and storytelling really bring me to the DM side, but I am still learning, and when I do DM (only some One-Shots so far), I get pretty flustered still as I am learning the process (I have not figured out how to handle the "I feel like I should know everything, and get very stressed when something happens I did not plan for", even that is the main part of being a DM).
That said, I REALLY like being my character and playing as a PC, so for now I think being a 'player' wins my vote, but I want to be a good DM, and will keep learning.
Cheers!

Breathe, dragons; sing of the First World, forged out of chaos and painted with beauty. Sing of Bahamut, the Platinum, molding the shape of the mountains and rivers; Sing too of Chromatic Tiamat, painting all over the infinite canvas. Partnered, they woke in the darkness; partnered, they labored in acts of creation.
I don't find either of them to be better than the other, but I have been a DM since 1980, and I dislike being a player.

I’m honestly suprised by the results so far; DMing is fun, but it involves so much more work than being a regular player that for me it is no contest, being a player is far less stressful.
Wow, a lot more people in the poll like DMing more than playing. I personally prefer playing as a character, but I've DM'd once, and found it's pretty fun.

Learning to make a ruling on a half mis-remembered rule and moving the game on, takes time to feel confident in.You'll get there! (Then remembering to look up the rule between games is another skill. :-) )
Be fair and make it fun. I think is all anyone can ask from a DM.
I’m a forever DM. There’s just so much to do as DM — keeping up with monsters, the storyline, and everything else! It feels, I dunno, weirdly fulfilling. Playing, while still fun, is just boring in comparison.
Plus, I love worldbuilding! It’s my favorite aspect of campaigns, DMing, and writing as a whole. And it’s a special privilege that players rarely get the opportunity to enjoy. Sure, they can contribute in small ways, but most worldbuilding is left to the DM. And that’s just how I like it :D
I prefer to GM. I am not really into being a player. There is far more creative freedom and variety being a GM. Being a player feels like having my creativity shackled to the prison of RAW. As a player, you are also basically stuck with playing one character at a time, and maybe a pet or another sidekick at best, so there is not much variety.
If D&D is not class-based, or at least provide some kind of framework to allow players to mix and match class features more freely, I might be more open to being a player.

I am not the greatest GM, but being one honestly is not much more work compared to being a player if you are good with improvisation. Running a homebrew campaign with a series of made up encounter pulled straight out of my butt is easier than running a pre-written adventure in my opinion. With a pre-written adventure, I have to read it first and keep referencing it during actual play to stay on track, and that feels like a little more work than just making things up on the fly.
I love playing but few of my friends want to GM, so I'm always GM.
Hugs.

If I had to pick one, it would be DM. But I really need some time as a player between my campaign arcs to avoid burnout, and I do really enjoy being a PC as well.
I’m just a player. When I was young and dumb playing AD&D i did DM a couple times to give our usual DM a break but I was bad at it. Not so much as running a module but way to adversarial against the players. I’m much older now and would hope I would handle it better but really haven’t had a chance to try it lately.
That said, as I spend a lot of my time writing sci-fi novels, running a PC allows me to participate in a story within a world not of my making. When playing within a group who role-play well, I find it a refreshing break from my almost daily focus on my own worlds and their characters.

I honestly like to play as both but I prefer dming due to my imagination
Both, each is enjoyable in their own way for me.

I am an eternal DM..mainly due to circumstance, but also because I love doing it.
