Ok, so I did some searching in this forum and googled "Hack and slash" and it seems people dont really appreciate hack and slash-playstyle. My own group seems to like hack and slash.
Some people love it. Some people hate it. It’s what video games are because it’s imposible to really role play in them. All that matters is that you’re having fun.
I think Tim really hit the nail on the head, for me. If I want to hack and slash I can pick up some really fabulous video games, and have an awesome time at it. But if I want something that will let me live as another character and experience a story that changes in response to me and my party member's actions and decisions, D&D is really the only place I can get that.
I sometimes play games like Warhammer Quest with friends and those are all about just combat in a dungeon, with not much in the way of roleplay.
They can be a lot of fun!
Similarly, I have run some pretty combat intensive dungeon sessions that players loved, but I think what I really love is that D&D can go from that hack'n'slash style to a really cool roleplay game that doesn't need dice rolls and back again, depending on the style and mood of the group.
hack and slash is DND as it was intended to be. It started off as a combat simulation rather than something about "role playing". I personally start getting bored with too many RP heavy sessions, while I enjoy it, I enjoy combat more.

In a “hack-an’-slash” style of game it’s pretty much just all dungeon crawls. The heroes kick in the door, kill the monsters, take their stuff, and use it to kill more monsters. Rinse an’ repeat. Any “RP” that happens during that process is incidental. It can be a lot of fun if that’s your thing, or if you’re in the mood for it, but it’s not for everyone.
It is true. While roleplaying elements were certainly there, they were never the focus. Combat was. And that's how we PLAYED it back in the 80s and 90s. There was some RP in there for sure, but it was mostly combat focused sessions and we did a bit of RP in between. the game was mostly hack and slash. Kill things, get loot and exp. It's what's best in life.

Some modules were hack and slash but others had quite a bit of RP. Desert of Desolation, Assassins Knot, Saltwater to name a few had generous amounts of RP.

that's fair. I like being able to do things during down time
I enjoy the casual RP in between events. Makes it a little more interesting for me.
