We've been playing for a couple of months and now the DM wants all the players to put their characters up on DND Beyond. The problem is I'm playing a homebrew Gunslinger - Arcane Gun subclass.
Any advice on trying to convert a homebrew class into an existing phb build with a homebrew subclass?
Find the base class with features closest to the homebrew's features, then create a subclass that adds missing features. You may need to just reimagine the whole class as a subclass. If it helps, there is a gunslinger subclass for fighter (from critical role).
Not sure if some editing options got updated in the last couple of weeks but I figured out how to modify the skills and saves and that was my first hang up on doing this conversion.
It’s possible. I turned the Pugilist class from Sterling Vermin into a monk subclass. It’s going to be easier to use that Fighter version if it works for you, but if it doesn’t then buckle up. There are going to be some things you may not be able to do and I won’t always be pretty, but you can get it pretty damn close if you are willing to learn the homebrew back end, custom actions, and snippet code.
First, find a base class close enough to start from. Your class will become a subclass of the base class. Once you do that, make all the first level features that are needed to give the level 1 proficiencies and removes any extras.
Next, look at the features from your homebrew class and see if there is another class/subclass that has a similar feature so that you can look at how it was done in the homebrew system to get the template for how you can replicate it.
Once you get everything in, test it by leveling your character up to make sure things are showing up when they are supposed to.
Finally, clean up the actions list on the sheet by renaming abilities from the base class that can’t Ben used. Name them “Z———“ or something similar so that they fall to the bottom of the list and are obvious to see when you’re scanning.
Hope that helps! Hop over to the homebrew forum if you get stuck.

Do you have a link to where the class can be found? Google Doc / DMs Guild / etc?

Mittens, Can you make your subclass available in the homebrew section? I've been working on it for hours and can not seem to get it right.
If it’s too much of a bother, tell the dm it’s not going up on beyond.
