So i have made a new character (tiefling draconic sorcerer) and i was wondering if i even need strength? on the character i have chosen to have really high charisma, followed by constitution and dexsterity. But i have chosen to only have 7 in strength since i don't think the character need it for anything.
my thought is that strength is useless for a draconic sorcerer, but i would like to hear some arguments to why i should have maybe put it a bit higher.
I guess it depends on what sort of spells and cantrips you have. Might be nice to have a back up weapon if you find yourself in a situation where you might not be able to cast any spells.
As a sorcerer I would be most concerned with Strength (Athletic) checks to escape grapples. Outside of that, most benefits to strength don't play into the strengths of a sorcerer.
A sorceror has absolutely no use for strength, not even for backup melee weapons... just pick something with finesse.
The only relevant points for strength would be encumbrance, if you are tracking this. Or maybe climbing or similar checks... you should have spells for these occasions, though.
Every character can afford at least one "dump stat". For magic users, STR is generally a good one, since it's rare to rely on STR even for emergency melee attacks, and in many cases the ability checks you'd expect to make that rely on STR can be compensated for with spells. Keep in mind that it's a team game... it's rare for one character to be good at everything, and instead a good team figures out what everyone is good at and takes care of each other.
As a Sorcerer the most common dump stats, from what I've seen... are STR and INT. It's rare for INT to be the dump stat, but it all depends on how you write the character. But overall your build that prioritizes CHA, then CON, then DEX, is a very solid build. Whatever order you distribute the remaining points is really just dependent on what kind of character you want to have.
Mechanically no, but practicality yes. If/when you can fly either through spells or wings carrying someone else is a possibility low strength are carried. Common adventuring situations are str based like swimming or climbing, it's sad to see a dex based character drowning with no way to swim up.

Strength affects the following:
It's not super essential, less so if none of the above are likely to matter to you

You can escape grapples with DEX(Acrobatics).

My suggestion would make str 8-10.
