I recently started using DDB for my character sheets, and have noticed that you only get what is in the basic rules for the most part. Now I don't have the time or the patience to homebrew all the subclasses that I want to use. My question is, does the online version of the PHB give you all the subclasses? I know it will not include any Eberron subclasses, but will it include everything else? Or do I need to but several books?
I am primarily concerned about the subclasses, so I'm not too worried about backgrounds and races.
That's not every subclass that's available though, other books add their own new subclasses. For example, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything has an additional 31 subclasses not included in the PHB.
Yes, buying the PH will grant access to all the character options in that book. You can also buy just the bits of the Player's Handbook you currently need. The money you spend towards subclasses, spells, races, etc will be discounted from the cost of the Player's Handbook if you decide to buy the whole book later.
What in your opinion is the best book to buy first for online play? I have several books in RL, but what should be the first thing I buy (as a player,) online?

It depends on what you want to play. It probably makes sense to buy the PHB in any event. But then it depends what you want to play. Keep in mind that you can purchase individual character options for much cheaper than the entire book, and anything that you spend on individual items in a book is credited toward the price of the full book.
So, for example, when I started out, I bought just the PHB. Later I bought some things piecemeal: the Tabaxi race, the storm sorcerer, a few spells from Xanathar's, etc. Even later I finished up my Xanathar's purchase.

I will probably go with the PHB, as it looks like it contains the most content without having to purchase individual bits. (Which I will do at some point, just trying to test out DDB.)
Beginning at 1st level, you know how to strike subtly and exploit a foe’s distraction. Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll. The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon.
You don’t need advantage on the attack roll if another enemy of the target is within 5 feet of it, that enemy isn’t incapacitated, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll.
The amount of the extra damage increases as you gain levels in this class, as shown in the Sneak Attack column of the Rogue table.

Thanks! And thanks for not just saying move to another forum!
Happy to be of assistance. Friendly tip for future, if a thread hasn’t been used in over 6 months, they prefer that we start a new one instead of using that old one.
I like buying my books physically. So what I usually end up doing is hoping that I end up on a campaign that enables content sharing, from somebody who has purchased all the digital content. It's by no means a perfect system, but this way I get access to material I've purchased in print @_@
If that's not an option, I try out different builds from Basic Rules ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Buying the PHB on here grants you access to all 28 subclasses it contains. You can visit this link to see what is there: https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/source/players-handbook#ClassesSummary

If you want to buy a new book, basically buy it here. Otherwise, do not use D&D beyond to build your PCs.
I play on roll20, so I use that.
Thank you for replying!

I have a question.
if there is an ally of a rouge within five feet of an enemy, but the rouge is attacking from range, would said rouge still benefit from sneak attack?

I'm kind of new to D&D, so I can't answer that question, sorry.
Typically, starting a new thread in the “Rules and Game Mechanics” forum would be better for this type of question.

That would make sense. I also didn’t know to check the date.
I figured. Not a huge deal, and it didn’t matter in this case. But it is a thing to know about.

no you would need to buy the subclasses separately
