The nestest Dungeons & Dragons Module is here; Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden.
Here's what we know so far. Set in Icewind Dale, a freezing cold terrain far north of the Sword Coast. The adventure is called Rime of the Frostmaiden. As for what that means, were not quite sure yet.
We will be getting more information and the official release at D&D Live 2020.
What do we think the Rime of the Frostmaiden means. As well what do we think about D&D venturing to the north.
Rime is a type of ice. The Frostmaiden is another name for Auril, the goddess of winter in Forgotten Realms. Here's the cover:
What is on the cover, I don't know. It looks like some yeti-owlbear hybrid with ram horns.
My guess, there's a cult of Auril, they are trying to spread ice across the world somehow, possibly by freezing some settlements in Icewind Dale. There's likely to be Frost Giants, Winter Wolves, Yetis, and other creatures in this adventure.
As for myself. Im very excited to venture into Icewind Dale. The north is home to many legends of D&D. Seems to strike a perfect balance of a new place to explore, and a place that fits into dnd history. A cold frigid land is a exciting idea to somebody who has been Dming ToA for the last year.
Im curious what Rime of the Frost Maiden would entail. The official definition of Rime is; frost formed on cold objects by the rapid freezing of water vapor in cloud or fog. Perhaps a new villain in the north.

Good Info! Sounds similar to the Ring of Winter Story Line. Im curious if it will have more survial aspects like ToA or OoTA. Love the idea of frost punk survial.
Maybe it has some kind of connection to the Amulet of Ulutiu?
Edit: I could definitely see the Ring of Winter showing up somehow. That could be the main magic item of this adventure, which most 5e adventure books have. (Soulmonger/Ring of Winter for ToA, Stone of Golorr for Dragon Heist, Helm of the Scavenger for DotMM, Sword of Zariel for Descent into Avernus, so on.)

Yea! There's a ton of good info on the Wiki for Auril.Secret Temples in IceWind Dale, definitely something cultish going down. Idk how I feel about more cult stories...
Interestingly enough, this invokes memories of Legacy of the Crystal Shard (D&D Next) during the playtest. In that one, Auril was a player in that story, acting through a daughter of the tribes...
I really like the setting at least. I've read the books from Salvatore decades ago and I liked them, plus I've played both Icewind Dale videogames. Looking forward to hear more about this.
Probably, it would be nice if they continue to provide guidance for running in other worlds (i.e. - Run this one at Icewall in DL, or somewhere appropriate in Greyhawk & Eberron). I don't mind if they release a Campaign Setting sourcebook for the other worlds and continue to set their adventures in the FR, with this guidance, it shouldn't be difficult.
That being said, I love Icewind Dale. Aside from Rashemen, it is my favorite part of Faerun.

Not only this, but if they could please at least release longer adventures in the setting books. I mean, I don't want to get a Greyhawk campaign book(the one I'm personally waiting for) and then get an hour long adventure and be forced to do the hard work and adapt any other prewritten I buy. Honestly, FR better be coming to an end, because I'm sick of seeing the campaign books mention Waterdeep and Elminster and Phandelin and Neverwinter. I want Mordenkainen and Bigby and the Free City of Greyhawk and the Barrier Peaks!

That's really clever. I never would have thought to do that, but I'd love to run this in the northern Lhazaar Principalities of Eberron. There's a powerful lich queen who lives up there that could make some interesting appearances.
One of my players is a dwarf from Icewind Dale so getting some more specific info about the area is something I’m looking forward to. I realize there’s the FR wiki but to have a map and stuff that’s official and bigger than a thumbnail will be nice.
I'm kinda disappointed that they chose another FR specific setting for their adventure. But the cover art looks cool, so that's a mark in its favor.
They will probably continue having the adventure books be in the Forgotten Realms for years.
Barring some sort of significant change that tanks the popularity of the setting, I suspect it will continue to be used as the setting for published adventures for a long tie.

It might be based off of that, like some other 5e adventures are based off of D&D Next adventures.

A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.

Here, I've fixed that cover =)
I don't know that I'll buy this but man that cover is cool. Whatever that creature is I'm going to have to buy that and throw it at some players.

Me too... I was sad when the Companions left it immediately after the first book...
