I can't afford to buy every single thing in the store, so of course I need to choose. However, there are no details for the individual items. What's up with that? Or am I missing it?
I need to buy it to see details, but I need details to help me decide if I want to buy it.
races, classes, subclasses... maybe magical items and spells if they're interesting.
Yeah, I've been googling them so far, but it's not really very efficient as opposed to just having a small snippet of what the item is about in the page itself
Yeah, I understand, the single items are more for people who exactly know what they need. You should also be aware, that every single item you buy reduced the total cost of the full book it is bought from, by the same price.
So, e.g. you buy all the subclasses from the Player's Handbook for $9.99, the total prize of the PHB is reduced by that amount to $20.00 down from $29.99.
If you start with one book, the PHB, that will get you the absolute most value for the price. That’s all the main Rules, Races & Subraces, Subclasses, Spells, Backgrounds and Feats.
There is nobody on this site who will tell you that if you’re only gonna buy one book, not to buy the PHB.

for the races, you can go to the top of the screen and select Game Rules | Races - and you can see a small summary of each race. Similar for feats and backgrounds. No preview for the other stuff you're looking for that i know of....which i think is silly especially for subclasses...they don't even show up as an option if you haven't purchased them :/

Totally true!
'cept i say buy the physical Essentials Kit and get the online version of that free along with 50% off the PHB. THEN buy the PHB.

I have purchased three of the subclasses from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, but I'm not getting any discount on the total price of it from those owned items. Other source books are showing preowned item discounts, but not Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. Anyone know what's going on?
Which ones? I purchased the Way of Mercy subclass and it’s indicating the relevant discount. I also already had the three prior Artificer subclasses from ERftLW, but wouldn’t expect a cross-book discount for those.
where do you go to buy things individually. When I go to the store I only see the books as bundles. Specifically looking for aasimar subraces, cleric domains, feats, and backgrounds.

If you open the marketplace you should see a menu on the left (right under "marketplace") that goes Featured - Bundles - Sourcebooks - Adventures - etc. Click on the category of your choice and you'll get a list of the books in that category. Click on the book you want and scroll down a bit until you see Additional Purchase Options. Those will first show categories with an overall price, like all the Magic Items in the book, and right under that list the items in that category as Individual Purchase Options.
Edit: Aasimar are in Volo's Guide to Monsters; if you open the feat list under Game Rules each feat will show the source it's from; same for backgrounds; Cleric domains are spread over the PHB, the DMG, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide (and the Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica, but that one is reprised in Tasha's).
I think it's a 'bug' in the billing system that discounts are no longer being applied for content you already own?
I've noticed that while it still shows the 'tick' that you own something DNDBeyond's marketplace no longer applies the discount or stops you from being able to buy the same thing twice? - eg if you already own the subclasses from Tasha's it will still let you buy them from Theros
I'm hoping this gets fixed as I buy the real books and only unlock character feature as I need them - then go and get the rest on sale at the end of the year.
The trick is that if you click on the books in the marketplace to open up the "details" you can scroll down to the More Options section and just grab the bits you need - depending on the book it might save you 90% to just grab a race, spell or class from a adventure book and doing this let's you mix and match to build up your collection over time.
Normally these unlocks would apply discounts so you only ever pay the full price of the original book - and the discounts stack with any deals like the 20% sales that usually happen around Christmas - but again this does appear to be broken at the moment?

No individual options are purchasable across multiple books, and discounts don't apply across books with reprints. For example, you can only buy Oath of Glory individually from Mythic Odyssey of Theros. This will give you a discount on Mythic Odyssey of Theros, but not Tasha's Cauldron of Everything where the subclass is reprinted. This isn't a bug, it's the intended functionality of the system.

From what I can see, it's functioning correctly, it just doesn't apply for reprinted content.

I feel that you should be able to buy from the book you want. I understand why DDB wouldn't want me to be able to buy OoG and get a discount on both MOoT and TCoE, but it seems...a little out of theme that if I want to build up TCoE, I have to pay for the content twice by buying OoG from MOoT (which I may never have any intention of buying) and still having to pay for it when I buy buy the complete TCoE. Seems more in theme of DDBs policy to not punish buyers for buying piecemeal if you let them buy OoG from TCoE, so they can get the deduction from TCoE instead of MOoT.

I need to buy it to see details, but I need details to help me decide if I want to buy it.
Well, you could use a regular search to find most of the rules snippets on other sites and then decide.
What exactly are you looking for?
- Subclasses?
- Races?
- Feats?
- Spells?
- Monster?
- Backgrounds?

Guess, I'm gonna have to keep googling. Just wanted to know if I'm missing something and there's actually details available here. Thanks anyways!
Also please note that purchasing the sourcebook grants you all of the content from that sourcebook.
