You can do no such thing. You already used your only reaction for shield, so you can't use the level 10 ability.
There is no guarantee you have used your reaction for shield. The triggering damage might not have been an attack roll, or (depending on how the game handles visibility of attack rolls), you might have chosen to not cast shield because the attack would hit you anyway.
The poster I quoted said that you can use shield and then use the level 10 ability, I was correcting them.
Also, only idiots would not cast shield. It's a 1st level reaction spell that raises your odds of not being hit by 25%, while the level 10 ability requires a spell slot to reduce damage by 5 x the level of spell slot expended. In literally all conditions, shield is better, unless your DM goofed and revealed too much.
I mean - Sometimes an opponent rolls a 25 to hit, very few times is that +5 from shield going to help so the 10th level ability can be used to absorb the damage instead. Exactly what the original person you replied to meant. You took "If shield doesn't work" to mean it was already cast, but you don't need to cast shield to know if it will work or not.
btw - for shield to activate you have to know the target hit you. While some DMs might not say what the roll was, I think it's pretty common that the DM announces "Does a 21 hit your AC?" and then the Shield can be reacted to up it to make it fail. So I'm not sure what you mean by the DM revealing to much.

I was not in any way saying that. I was saying that if shield won't save your ass because the attack roll was too high, then you can use the damage reduction ability instead.
I've never played in a campaign where the DM didn't call out the attack rolls, and I always do.
No matter what else happens, what I'm hoping for is that it's put into the source book bundle, and those that already have that bundle unlocked just...get the book. That'd be amazing. For me. :D
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything will be available on D&D Beyond upon release, but digital pre-orders for the product are not yet available. We will share all pre-order details - including the special D&D Beyond pre-order perks - on all of our social channels as soon as they become available. Thank you!
Just curious why the book is available for preorder everywhere but here...
I keep throwing my money at the screen but the preorder won't go :(
Maybe because they haven't seen the content themselves. Besides, since TCE contains CFV and they are currently having trouble implementing it, they are not yet ready to promise anything.
Whatever they are doing with the CFV may go directly into the new book instead of Playtest Material.

I hope that they have been making progress on some of that all along. Surely WOTC gave them some kind of indication ahead of time of some of the items making it into the books.

They have been working on implementing CFVs this whole time. According to WotC, almost everything from CFVs is making it into the book, but a few of them may be a little different than they were in the UA.

You know that the bundle in it's description only grants you whatever is in it at the time of purchase. You will not get any source book created in the future. You will however get a discount to purchase said new book. That;s why the bundle price is different for each person, it all depends on what you own and what is currently out.

The physical book is available for pre-order wherever fine physical editions of D&D are sold, AFAIK, BUT I don't believe a digital edition is available "anywhere" let alone "everywhere but DDB":. Could be wrong but the usual suspects I compare don't have it yet.
As IamSposta and others have pointed out CFV seems to be something the Devs have put a lot resources toward getting to work right in DDB, and I'd assume WOTC does confer with one of its main digital editional/tool licensees about upcoming rules "official options". As I noted earlier I don't think the CFV is the going to be the big headache for DDB, rather race/species selection. Tashas' guide takes a race and eliminates the load out of stock traits (ability mods, proficiencies, dark vision, etc) and from what most of the press is inferring, allows a more flexible way to pick and choose traits. This will undoubtedly be popular. However, these rules will also be optional and the PHB method of what a race/species brings to a character also needs to be supported. In broad concept this is similar to but also a lot more complicated than the DDB mechanic for determining ability scores. With race selection, you first have a choice between PHB method, then Tasha Method, and so one will be "set" and auto populate your character sheet, the other will likely be a set of drop down menus to fine tune the no longer race/species bound features you want. It's been said on this thread that that's not a heavy lift and pointed I think to home-brew races, but that's not what we're talking about. A home-brew race is something players make usually to have on hand to make multiple characters. It seems to me Tasha's would basically require the player to home-brew their species when using that system (yes, sure DDB will be a great place to keep race/species/feature optimal load outs for the min/maxers, but that's not really the spirit of what Tasha's is going for IMHO).
They said there would be new feats in the book, so presumably, yes.
Depends on what you mean by "the" new feats. Sure there will be new feats, but will they be all/some/none of the most recent feats provided via UA? Hard to say. I don't know WOTC workflow on rules supplements/expansions, does anyone? So it's unclear whether an announced title will have all content decided and established at announcement or there's still mechanics tweaking going on. The most recent feats I think are closed playtest by now, but I think it comes down to how playtest integrates into the production timeline.
Next Dev Talk I'm sure Tasha's is going to lead a lot of the questions. I'm sure DDB won't be allowed to talk about specific content they're aware of, but it'll be interesting if they can say the CFV is in dialogue with the book and what lift if any the race/species system on the horizon will require.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
This is the part that depends entirely on the DM. They can always tweak it to their intended design.

Don't know but there wasn't a dev update today either so I'd bet there's something going on that's all connected to it.

Did anyone see if the new feats will be included?

They said there would be new feats in the book, so presumably, yes.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
I would really love some racial feats for the ones that don't have any - especially for the Genasi.
Mega Yahtzee Thread:
Highest 41: brocker2001 (#11,285).
Yahtzee of 2's: Emmber (#36,161).
Lowest 9: JoeltheWalrus (#312), Emmber (#12,505) and Dertinus (#20,953).
I agree 100%, but I think that's unlikely unless they reprint those races (again).

It will be impossible to know until it comes out, but I would love more racial feats personally.
