I was rolling up a new character, and using the 4d6 take top 3 method. I rolled a 4 Wis: three ones and a two. The odds of that are 0.3%. This is going to be fun to roleplay.

I’ve been playing a character with a 4 CHA for over a year now. Welcome to the club.
I'm kinda proud and embarrassed for rolling three 3s (meaning three sets of four 1s - same dice and dice tower as everyone else). Now, I wonder what I could have done with that array. (Took standard array rather than further upset whatever dice gods I had annoyed with another attempt.)

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

How could you? What I wouldn't give for stat rolls like that.

Sorry, do you mean you rolled three 3s on one character? Do you know the odds against that?
Robert Hartley GM. told me what the odds were. It was a 1 against a big number. Worse - those are just the 1s that were in a set. The other 1 was the lowest in another ability. So it's not just rolling twelve 1s, but thirteen 1s and twelve of those were grouped with three other 1s.
Which abilities should which classes dump those 3s into?

Strength, Charisma, Wisdom, and be a Wizard. You just need Int for spells, Dex for AC, and Con for HP.
Charisma is the clear dump for a wizard. Wisdom (and Dex and Con) are the common saves. Int you obviously need. Strength affects carrying capacity and you want to be able to carry more than your clothing.
Anyone that is not an Artificer or a Wizard should most likely dump Int. From a meta-gaming perspective, you only use it for those casting spells from Artificer or Wizard, plus a few very rare Int saves.
Yeah, dumping Int, Cha, and Str will make the most limited impact on saves, and still lets you build a perfectly capable Rogue, Druid, Cleric, Ranger, or Monk.

Knowledge skills are fairly important in our campaigns, and it backs many tool checks as well. If you spend a good chunk of time outside of combat, INT is less of an auto-dump.
I still remember Throm: human fighter with a 18.87 Strength and a 4 Int. I was 14 and running for the first time and yes, I know how long ago that was. (Hint: the 18.0-99 on strength was a first edition rule)
Why do I still remember this? I think it was because the player so completely embraced the challenges presented by his character. This was the guy in the party who blundered into so many encounters, and valiantly fought his way out again that he became a hero in spite of himself. Even after so long, remembering him still makes me smile.
