Gear stands up and follows Whistler. He’d learned his lessons about focus of purpose and over sharing from the brothers. in these moments he mentally reviewed the facts he knew:
-he knew he was on assignment from syndra
-he knew Whistler and Case were on the same case
-he didn’t hear these two mention Sydna by name.
“To theGrand Souk! Souk? Souk! That’s a cool sound I’ve never made before.”
"Pleased to meet you, Whistler," said Aranea. Before she could say much more, the warforged named Gear started to ask a bunch of hypothetical questions. She stared at him with bemusement.
Whistler tried to flag down a waiter but instead two strange men made their way over to the party. Aranea eyed them both skeptically. They didn't look like they were from around here, and she was always suspicious of anyone who offered their help freely to strangers...especially without being asked first. What was their angle? She studied their body language and expressions to see if she could determine if they were truly interested in helping them or if they were being duplicitous somehow.
Gondolo (the smaller one) tries to stop Whistler "I know it might seem odd that a stranger offer assitance but I wasn't finished, we charge for our services and venturing into the jungle will only attract some others interested in the same gig, it is true that we aren't locals but we've been here for quite some time and we've seem all kind of people returning to the port broken by the many dangers that linger out there. Belive me, having someone experienced will help you greatly and you are getting two for the price of one. Our price is 5 pieces of gold per day with a 30-day payment upfront." If Whistler stop listening he'll face some other at the table, and will stop at Aranea who was listening carefully.
His manners and words came with no trouble, he either repeated this speech several times or studied it perfectly because it did feel very natural to him. However, whenever he talked about venturing into the jungle he did speak more carefully as if he was scared to even mentioning that but powered through that part of the speech to continue selling his services.
Whistler didn't stop, but he did find himself wondering about the newcomers. He shrugged as he left, only adding, "Aranea can speak fo' us... well, fo' me, at least." She'd suss things out, the fighter figured--no pressure there. "See ya'll in a couple hours!"
(( OOC: Presuming he can find Grand Souk without incident, Whistler will simply purchase his extra supplies and then return. If there is an incident along the way, or if anyone else wants to chat while out shopping, he'll respond. ))
Gear’s eyes dart between Whistler and Aranea, Making a decision to stay with the Rogue. “Aranea can speak for me,” Gear repeated Whistler’s remarks to the strangers robotically.
turning his gaze to Aranea, he added, “You’ll learn to love me. I take orders well, as well as keep space and time around me as orderly as possible… you’ll see, you’ll learn to love me.”
Gear messages silently to Whistler as his walks away, “if you run into the right people to ask, remember the rumors about the Soulmonger artifact.”
Gear messages silently to Whistler as his walks away, “if you run into the right people to ask, remember the rumors about the Soulmonger artifact.”
Whistler blinked but tried to mask his surprise as he continued on. More magic from the warforged, presumably, but he was more familiar with this spell. And the suggestion was a good one, at that.
"Message received and noted," he whispered back rather wryly.
The Grand Souk is easy to find, simply asking someone will most likely get you in the right path. The Grand Souk is the area with the blue and white parasol like roof next to the harbor.
Anyone walking through the port will notice that the soulmonger and the death's curse is pretty much being discussed by everyone, anyone interested in paying attention to the rumors could roll either insight or investigation
The reply from Whistler was sell received. Gear felt their bond of camaraderie growing; trust was one of the lubricants that allowed the machine that was nature the world and life run smoothly.
insight 21 to hear discussion related to soulmonger.
Gear tried to focus his attention to groups of people talking outside of a building, to workers carrying things or just visitors. Most of them shared a common topic ["a lot of foreigners won't respect Chult's jungle..."]...["at least the business has been good"]....["most of them seem to be looking for something, there is only death in that place"]...["I heard an outsider asking for a soulmonger, what the heck is that?"]....["did you hear? camp righteous was overrun by undead!"]... before Gear could get anything else is grabbed by the arm, he would've felt his the man's fingers pushing into his skin if he was a "fleshie" but the grip was strong, Gear directed his attention to the face of the person, his eyes went white and got his mouth close to Gears head "Speak to the wise guardian of Orolunga, east of Mbala. She can direct you to that which you seek.” Then he collapses, unconscious.
Case looks down at Gondolo and then at Farould, he wasn't sure if he could trust either of them. Case had been built to prevent an apocalypse no matter the cost. He was told that this often would mean that he couldn't trust others. Others could lead him astray, betray him or even simply just be an enemy. Yet, that was all in the past and had left him to have no purpose. Now he was given a new purpose under the employment of someone else. She had given him a mission, and that gave him allies. But that did nothing to convince him not to be suspicious of others.
Case's eye squint before he pulls out his longsword and thrust it into the table. The sword wobbles back and forth for a moment as a result of the impact.
"Just exactly what is your real intentions here?"

Gear let the proper nouns and directional terms sink into his memory cogs. but Case was being a bit of a case, and well… priorities. He laid the man down, quickly investigating 17 for a pulse, before turning to stand beside Aranea.
To casual observers passing by, It certainly might seem like Aranea was the patron, with two warforged bodyguards flanking her. Not that she needed bodyguards.

The fighter wasted no time, grabbing a few of the items he needed even from nearby hawkers. Just then, he saw the man approach Gear and whisper something that he wasn't close enough to hear.
"Psst.. psst, psst, psst...” Then he collapses, unconscious.
Whistler stepped back, looking at the fallen man with shock, then looking around for any possible assailants.
"Tarnation?!" he blurted out, before turning to Gear. "Wha' happened?! What'd that man say to you?" He looked around uneasily, still cautious, and hating how much attention this would draw to them, before resignedly dropping to the man's side and trying to assess the situation.
