Whistler smiled. It seemed like a solid group; he was fairly certain they didn't need any random guides, as good as they might or might not be.
"Seems settled then," he started. "I 'ready gots my supplies, 'though I bought some extra rope that's weighin' me down--maybe someone else might want it? Anyway tho', if we's all ready, guess we can be off whenevah."
(( OOC: Didn't realize no one on the team has high STR; if no one else wants the extra rope, Whistler will probably quietly ditch it just to keep from being encumbered. ))
Whistler grinned as he tossed his extra rope to the hooded adventurer. "Here's this, it's on me; could save any o' us in a rough spot, y'know?" He continued, "The Grand Souk should 'ave whatcha need. Jus' meet us back here after and we can set out; good?"
A canoe can be purchased for 50 gp. It holds up to six Medium creatures and has a maximum speed of 2 mph. It is otherwise identical to a rowboat
There are some other local items such as Tej (local brew) rain catchers, Yklwa (short sword with throw property) and insect repellent. Besides this unique items you'll find any other item found in the PHB with the cost displayed there (some of you already went through that so I don't really see the point in sharing that info here... considering that I'm posting from my phone)
I'm going to check the characters in the campaign, I'm not sure if Kei's backstory is up, if not please share any details you may consider important before moving forward.
I'll share tomorrow details regarding travel speed and pace that will impact your movement through the jungle.
Aranea smiles and thinks aloud in her mind in response: "I also wish to live a purposeful life. I want to find my purpose and accomplish something great, to prove that I am more than just a thief."
When the group arrives to purchase the canoes, Aranea examines more of the local wares. She decides to buy some of the rain catchers and insect repellent. No doubt both will come in very handy when they are traveling through the humid, rainy jungle.

“We are going to purchase a canoe Case, do you have 50 gold if you are feeling generous, or 10 gold a piece if you are feeling negotiative? Then we can start heading to camp righteous!”
Since there are no locals in the party, and no one has proficiency in survival there is no actual way for you to know how far are each mapped hex from each other or in other words how much it would take you to reach the next hex.
in Whistler’s map you can’t see the inner part of chult because most people would limit to explore the shores or some mountains without really going into the jungle, those who do usually are never seen again and it’s even rarer a map showing every location and routes from the chult.
After finishing the first day out of the port one of you will be able to make survivalcheck with disadvantage in order to gather information regarding travel pace & distance.
After that you’ll get to try again if you after reaching a new landmark/location (like camp righteous, mala, etc.)
canoes cost 50 gp
raincatchers 1gp and weighs 5 pounds
insect repellent cost 1sp per block of incense and 1gp per a gourd or vial of salve
Gear searches for signs for guides that want less upfront. He also looks for signs that offer negotiable pricing.
He mentions to the group. “If we can find a guide that wants partial payment when we get to camp righteous, and more payment when we finish out mission, it might be worth it for us. Unfortunately we don’t currently have very high funds. The jungles are quite dangerous out here, and I may be a good negotiator for pricing if given the opportunity… “
(( OOC: I presume we're already headed to the canoes now? I'll have Whistler retroactively purchase 10 blocks of repellent incense, and 9 2 vials of repellent salve for a total cost of 10gp 3gp. ))

Unfortunately we don’t currently have very high funds. The jungles are quite dangerous out here, and I may be a good negotiator for pricing if given the opportunity… “
Whistler said nothing at first. He knew it was practically mandatory some places, but he hated haggling; it always just struck him as a waste of time. Still, the warforged seemed intent on it, and if it saved a few gold, waiting a bit might not hurt.
"Might as well givit a shot," he eventually replied aloud, then mumbled to himself under his breath, "Mighta been easier to jus' take those fellas offer if we'd known nunna us had jungle survival experience upfront...."
Leaning against a pole, the fighter took out one of his new knives and began examining and playing with it while Gear tried to negotiate.
(( OOC: Repeating this here since I remembered not everyone is in the Discord chat - The typical 30-day payment upfront (150gp) for guides seems fairly steep, even if we can afford it. For that reason, I'm personally leaning Qawasha, who's rates require no advance and are negotiable if we promise to destroy undead; or River and Flask, who are cheaper and also require no advance. The gal who will waive her fee if we help her in Firefinger also sounds good, if she'd agree that we go there afterwards. ))
Gear sees a female guide’s posted service offering, claiming to be a local born in the jungle. He begins to ask around looking for her in the hopes of inquiring as to her services and availability, as well as price considerations beyond the 150gold payment.
“Does anyone know how to find this lady?” Gear asks those who don’t seem too disagreeable wherever he walks.
he also hears of two Tabaxi guides who might be negotiable for pricing, and registers this in his memory in case he can’t find this woman.
After asking around for a couple of minutes for a guide you noticed that such service was as important as many others products offered in the port, many knew the person you were asking for and were able to direct you towards her, every direction led to training grounds were guards and champions (entertainers who compete on weekly bouts in the port’s coliseum, such event was heavily advertised just as dinosaur races and sentences held at the executioner’s run)
Azaka was training with with someone, her weapon of choice was a Yklwa a small lance used both as a short sword but thrown if the enemy showed openings at certain range. Azaka was finishing the encounter with non lethal attacks after your arrival…her “performance” (not the charisma skill but what you perceived from her combat) was —> 6 — Azaka won without much effort, but nothing flashy was displayed on her end, just took advantage of the poor defense of her opponent and dealt a devastating blow. After that, someone got close to her and said something which you couldn’t hear but immediately after that she turned her head to your group, and walked towards you. “My friend here says you’re interested in exploring Chult…”
Case thinks for a moment before pulling a bag. He opens it up and looks inside, "Actually, I think I've got more than fifty gold pieces. But should we try and get a better deal anyway?"
