The halfling kids are enticed by the sugary sweets and sit obediently. Dewey and Dina are impressed. Dina seems about to say something about the sugar going to hop the kids up but Dewey interrupts her, “Honey, it’s vacation! Let the crew do their schtick, they seem quite able to handle the kids, I’m sure they’ve got lots of experience!”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Burt snatches a few decorative items and imbues them with a touch magic. He approaches the newlyweds and informs politely that, if there is anything they wish for, they only need say it, and, additionally he asks permission to enter their cabin to install the honeymoon special package, though he doesn’t tell them details but insists that it is a surprise if pressed.
He folded a napkin to appear as a rose and infused it with magic to discretely smells like one, too. Then, he found a heavy glass for drinking strong spirits that he cleaned hastily and filled with two fingers of water on which he set a piece of wood afloat that now emits a faint magic rose light and flickers somewhere between a campfire and a candle to evoke a romantic atmosphere in a darkened room. On a bed sheet, fresh from laundry, he conjured the image of a full moon night with a starry sky. He knows that this isn’t quite real, heck, but it does sound romantic, right? Last but not least he found a book about the jungle fauna and makes it emit sounds of the animals that are depicted inside, but carefully designing the sounds at levels that are non-intrusive even for intimate dialogue but loud enough to muffle some of the outside noises. Burt situates all items tastefully in the cabin of the couple and hopes they will like his special package. Maybe they comment it to the captain, that’d certainly be nice. He leaves a handwritten note: “Enjoy your Honeymoon! River Jewel”, clearly written in his hand. Then, he returns to the upper deck smiling.
Needless to say that each gadget has a clearly marked red button to switch it off.
(magic tinkering x4)
Once back on deck he continues his duties but attempts to keep an eye on the gnome guest, trying to identify if he’s acting or genuine. As an artificer, Burt learned that gnomes are curious in nature and like to get sneak peeks in other’s inventions. Given the secretive nature of their captain’s engine, he wants to be sure that this guest isn’t going to nose around.

Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Burt, you have arranged the newlyweds' room and then you are monitoring Renn Crumbleroot, trying to get a read on him. Whatever his game is, he is earnest about it, not faking, in your opinion. As an artificer, you have an instinctive feeling of kinship with Renn.
Gil, the happy couple welcomes your approach. Kress gushes, "Everything has been great so far, really fun, thank you!"
Chester smiles but he motions for you step away with him towards the stern of the boat, away from the others. Kress leans against the railing and observes the jungle. It's clear that Chester wants a private word with you, Gil.
"Gil, is it? Yes. Well, chap, err, you see, the thing is," he waffles nervously. Then taking a deep breath, he forges on. "This flower field sounds really nice, right up Kress's alley. She loves that sort of thing. I want to do something nice for her, gather a bouquet of flowers or something. My problem is that I'm deathly allergic to bees, and it sounds like the sort of place where we can expect the bees to be out in force. But I'm determined to do something nice for Kress, she deserves it! What can we do?"
Casting detect magic, Parth will be able to sense magic emanating from belowdecks. You cannot see the aura as the source is not visible to you, but there is magic nearby belowdecks.

" I mean......I doubt she wants you to risk death just to show her a pretty place.....not that I have much experience in regards to what ladies may like..."
" I'm happy to escort her there on you behalf while you wait here with a romantic meal prepared for her return."
Gil looks kind of flustered, " Perhaps I can ask the other crew members if they have any magics that can clear the bees away from the field for a time....though I haven't heard of such things myself...."
‘He’s an artificer,’ Burt realized when observing Renn. ‘But he doesn’t appear to be here for the engine. Hum, ‘ Burt concentrates to bring a flash of thought into the shape of an idea. ‘Might be he is looking for special ingredients? Let’s see if I can learn something.’
Burt looks for a corner table or platform on the inside of the boat and cleans the surface. Then, he brings his alchemists supplies and prepares an impromptu lab, trying to get it at a level low enough for a gnome to work but hopefully high enough to be out of direct eyesight of halfling children. He puts up a sign: “Jewel Lab. Free use for patrons. Parents are hold responsible for their children.” Then, he approaches Renn, “Dear sir, I couldn’t help to notice your interest in the sciences and engineering and such. I’d like to point out to you that we have a humble alchemist lab that I set up for our guests where they can indulge in their hobbies, should they feel so inclined.” He continues, “There are countless marvels in the jungle that just wait for us to be discovered. I, myself, are - or was - in the business of brewing and I hope to collect samples of aromatic plants with which I can spice up my recipes. Even if you aren’t specialized in alchemy, there are many curious experiments that can be carried out by those new to the art. I am at your service, so feel free to request my assistance if you wish.”

Morgran, with an observant eye for danger, you see/hear that the jungle is no picnic. As the day progresses and the boat continues to inexplicably travel upstream, you spot no less than 3 large well-camouflaged alligators lying motionless in the murky water. At one point you also see what could easily be mistaken as a draping vine hanging from a tree, but in fact is a very large snake. Pondering on the many animal calls that unceasingly rise from deeper inland, you're pretty sure that some of them are actually the sounds of an aggressive pack of monkeys. And something more, a glimpse of movement out of the corner of your eye. Maybe you just imagined it, but was there a large face with dark unblinking eyes in the thick foliage across the river? But it's gone now, withdrawn from sight.
As Burt speaks to Renn, the gnome's eyes go wide with excitement specifically when the word reagents is used. Renn cackles with glee and says, "My mother was smarter than I thought, sending me on this trip! You guys really get me."
He agilely darts around you, Burt, to interact with the jewel lab. His hands are a blur as he handles the various stones and materials. Within a few minutes, though, he's done with the lab. You catch him saying quietly to himself, "All very rudimentary... but that's to be expected on a tour boat like this... more for diversion, not true alchemical work..." He soon wanders off, but you notice an upturn in Renn's lips and a glint in his eye that denotes happiness.
Gil and Chester are having a quiet conversation at the stern of the ship.
Chester's brow furrows. "I say, chap, you're quite right. Well, if the crew can keep the bugs away from me, then my first choice would to be to go ashore and collect the flowers myself. Failing that, you could help me to access the ship's food stores and prepare a special picnic lunch for her while she's in the flower field?"
Parth, heading belowdecks you now realize that the emanations of magic are coming from below the belowdecks. At the very bottom of the boat, or perhaps underneath? You know that the rooms belowdecks are not deep enough to explain the full depth of the River Jewel's hull, as though there is a bilge area below, at the very bottom of the hull. But in your training you were not shown how to access it.

Morgran heads to the captain.
"Something's out there. I'm sure of it. This jungle... is different from the forests of my home. Far more dangerous, with camouflaged alligators and snakes pretending to be vines. I also think that I saw a large face, with dark unblinking eyes. It was in the foliage across the river..."

Parth, you do not detect emanations coming from the various rooms, it’s all coming from somewhere below your feet.
Morgran finds the captain regaling Dewey & Dina with some humorous anectdote and expresses concern. Dewey arches an eyebrow in surprise and Dina puts a hand up to her throat and her gaze strays to the children, still entertained by the novel sights and sounds as you travel upriver.
Captain Circuit puts on his best smarmy smile and reassures the parental unit, “Haha, well of course the jungle’s dangerous, if you don’t know what you’re about. But fortunately here on Circuit Riverboat Tours we know exactly what we are about. Don’t worry, we are professionals! And don’t forget rule #1, no unsanctioned leaving of the boat!”
The captain turns to you and his smile appears to be strained. “A word, Morgran?”
He leads you a short distance away from the placated halflings and says under his breath, “Of course the jungle is dangerous, why do you think I’ve hired on four of you brutes when the boat literally propels itself?? We should be fine so long as we stick to my schedule and only disembark at my locations. Try to exude more confidence, will you? As for the face, well…. I’m sure it was nothing… you know the mind likes to play tricks, recognize faces where there’s none, there’s a fancy word for that…. All the same, keep a good lookout, there’s a good lad!”
He claps you on the back and returns to the halfling couple to finish his story.
