Raker’s head pops up as he hears the snap and he slowly turns around, looking at Gaius. He steps forward a step or two, turning the second bag over completely and emptying the contents. After that, he works on the third bag seen, same manner, using his mage hand to open and upend the sack, trying to empty the contents. If it is too heavy, he pushes and tips it over.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Raker has the hand bring over the tools and the boots, so that he can examine them. “That space ahead looks tight. I don’t know if I trust it. What a great spot for an ambush, or another trap. What do you think?”
Raker cautiously moves forward, using his light to examine the floor for any pressure plates or ropes, twine, any traps. He will examine carefully until he gets to the opening, then looks there, examining for any traps laid by the kobolds.

“If we want to follow those creatures, it looks like this tunnel is the way,” Gaius adds. “I can move our light source on ahead to show the way. That will give us away, but will also reveal them far ahead. Hopefully, out of their range. I’m not sure even they could use a sling in this tunnel.”
Gaius looks for new stones or other small items to take with him as targets for his Light spell.
Gaius gets a funny look on his face and turns to his compatriots. “What if I cast my Light can’t io on a section of rope? Then, I could move it along ahead of us in the tunnel. I’m thinking to try to make it look like a snake moves.” Gaius looks at the tunnel and back, “That may confuse or scare them long enough for us to move down the tunnel safely.”
Gaius becomes even more animated. He is visibly excited, “Even better! Raker, do you have oil? Let’s soak the rope in oil and light it. Then, you can move the rope and I will control the flames to look like a snake made of fire!” Gaius looks back and forth between Raker and Relic, “That will really mess with their heads!”
Investigating the front of the tunnel, Raker and Relic are able to notice some of the first posts seem to have been weakened. The support posts are a little off-center and the dirt around them is looser and disturbed. However further in seems untampered. They also get a sense the tunnel goes on for a while.
[[OOC: For the idea of a fire-snake made from rope and burning oil, I'll be honest I'm not entirely certain which skill check to use. My initial reaction was a straight intimidation roll but that felt off given it's the fire snake, not the characters' words/body-language doing the intimidating. So next thought was some combination of sleight of hand and [/skill]performance[/skill] but still doesn't feel like a perfect fit. So if there's a skill(s) you have in mind for using, I'm open to any case you can make for it.]]
Gaius looks back and forth between Raker and Relic looking for some agreement with his ideas. Of course, one of the kobolds put out Raker’s lantern. Maybe the flaming snake wouldn’t be so good…
Raker stops by the posts and actually sits down, trying to look carefully at the base of them. “Unstable. Done purposefully?” He looks at the base of the posts, perhaps even digging out around it to see if the were sawed, or looking for any wires or ropes. “This is the sort of thing that those creatures would do…” He keeps looking for any traps set by the kobolds, urging caution.

As best as Raker can tell, it seems to have been shoved/pulled. He is able to find some fibers of rope, perhaps evidence that there were some ropes used in disturbing the supports?
As Gaius looks, he's not able to find much more than what's already been found by Relic and Raker.
“Ropes have been used, to pull and weaken these supports. Do either of you know anything about tunneling, mining, construction? I don’t think this is safe. I would not want to be smashed by that rock or a cave in…. I would say let’s search elsewhere, maybe there is another way to come around to this point, perhaps from the other side.” Raker backs away, sensing danger from this area.

With moving the light rock further down with Mage Hand, Gaius is able to see the tunnel open up, though still low-ceilinged, 60ft ahead. How wide is unclear and he's not able to see around the corners of the opening. Wood shavings seems to be littered around the floor closer to to the point where it widens.
Gaius looks down the tunnel and shakes his head, “I do not like the idea of that.” He looks to the others, “Maybe we regroup here for a bit? Recover some strength and then search out another way around?”
Gaius looks to Raker, “Nice job finding that.” He then waits for Raker to continue sorting through the second and third sack.

Seeing that we are clearly more in Raker’s element, Gaius waits and stays alert to the surroundings.
Dumping out the third sack, Raker is able to expose a pair of boots, a length of rope (20ft), and some tools that could be used for lockpicking.

"It's above my paygrade to think too much," Relic says, his voice deadpan and serious. "But... it does look quite suspicious."

“I know nothing of mining. I agree with you,” Gaius responds. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
He looks down the other tunnels. “Which way do you suggest?”
Gaius then uses his Mage Hand cantrip to move the Light rock as far down the tunnel he can to see what they can.
