Leek will look for an empty table, preferably in a quiet area of the inn and will sit there with Droop. He will order food for him and Droop, (let me know how much) and then he will discuss with Droop the current arrangement of master and servant. He will discuss his role and what his expectations of him are. Basically he will carry supplies, aid our new cook in making meals and scavenge for herbs, and aid in scouting when necessary. If he does all his tasks well he will be rewarded with good food and praise.
So pretty much what he did before. Just without the beatings. Hopefully. (Good food is relative to a Goblin)
"We do. The castle ruins were filled with goblinoids led by a bugbear chieftain who fancied himself a king. It seems the king works for this mysterious spider, but the king wants more. The king wants to trade Gundren for a ransom of gold." Katerielle will inform Sildar while watching his reactions.
(Let me know when I need another roll)
Sildar looks concerned. "Gundren is alive then. That is a silver lining at the very least. How much gold does this bugbear king want in ransom?"
"Alot. He wouldn't be specific, but he said thousands a couple of times. I am also not sure if he understands how much that is or if it simply the largest number word he knows in common, based again on how he used the word and would not give a specific amount."
Katerielle will continue still watching his reactions, "We hope Gundren is still alive. The king had beaten him unconscious, but he was breathing, lifted in the air threatening to brain him if we did not bring him tribute of thousands of gold."
Switching from the story Katerielle will ask, "Did, the dwarf,..." shaking her head. "Did Gundren have family, investors, maybe a trade guild he was apart of? That would know why he brought us all out here and be willing to put together his ransom? I am worried the goblins won't know how to treat him or even feed him in his current state."
Sildar leans back in his chair, the gravity of Gundren's situation sinking in. "Gundren has two brothers. The three of them were prospecting in the mountains near Phandalin when they discovered an old mine lost during the Orc Wars. This mine was called 'Wave Echo Cave' and was first discovered over 500 years ago. A pact was made between dwarves, gnomes and humans called Phandelver's Pact. Besides being a rich mine producing raw ores, Wave Echo Cave was also magically infused and the mine became a source of magical dwarven weapons and gnome contraptions. But it was lost when the orcs warred across these lands. Many have tried to find it since and failed.
Gundren's two brothers, Tharden and Nundro are at the site, excavating and exploring what they can. The three brothers have no investors or anyone that could or would pay that kind of ransom. Their monetary value lies in what they can accomplish with the discovery of that mine. That mine will make whoever opens it again very rich. That is why the Lords' Alliance sent Iarno and then myself here to establish a foothold and start establishing laws and enforcement. With that mine open and producing again, Phandalin is poised to be become a very rich mining town.
I do not know what we can do to ransom Gundren, but if you can tell me where this castle is, I will inform the Lords' Alliance and once Gundren is free, we will assault it and wipe out the Cragmaw clan."
Katerielle immediately looks relieved, then more troubled as if now the hard work begins, then she continues her tale.
"The brothers will need to be informed then, do you know where the excavation site is? If Kitryn and Elila were to guard you could you make it there and let them know, quickly?"
Katerielle will look for any indication he is playing the group false.
"The castle is a couple days to the north in the woods, past the cave we found you in."
Sildar shakes his head 'no' as he says, "Gundren had a map he made. Other than that map, the only other people that know where the mine is are his brothers."
"A map, that is unfortunate." Katerielle has reach the crux of her test and will be watching Sildar quite carefully. "You see while we were in,.. shall we say Aggressive Negotiations with the bugbear and his goblinoids. A female drow came out of hiding took a rolled canvas or skin from the bugbears hiding spot. She then moved over to Gundren's unconscious body and slew him before saying good luck finding the cave without the dwarf or the map. She then fled as we defended our selves against the goblinoids."
(OOC: We never saw him at Neverwinter. Why did the goblins keep him alive once Gundren and the map were on their way? The goblins knew we were coming to the cave and the castle and had instructions to kill us. How did they know there would be two groups on the trail or that we would search for Gundren once we were paid for the first mission. He was friends with Iarno Albreck who recruited the redbrands and the goblins. How do we know Sildar didn't cook all this up so he could be the sole finder of the mine? We are dealing with at least 1 shape shifter. Why not two ? In which case he could be a shapeshifter who replaced the real Sildar at or before the cave we found him at. He could even actually be the black spider. To answer these questions Katerielle came up with a test on the walk here, she would present the story that gundren was alive but in need of money to find out who was left who knew of the mines location. If Sildar or others knew of the location then he was not the spider, just possibly an opportunist. The only other people who knew where the mine was are Gundren's brothers, who we found out when we entered Phandalin were missing or at least in resupplying. In which case Katerielle presents Gundren's death and the escape of the drow. If Sildar is innocent he will be surprised and crushed emotionally loss of the dwarf and the map. If he knew about the drow then he will be surprised, maybe angry, but also relieved or even glad/anxious. Sorry for the wall of text. Hope that helps explain what I am having Katerielle do.)
Sildar stands suddenly, anger clear on his face. "Gundren is dead!? Why the charade? If someone has the map and Gundren was deliberately killed, then his brothers are in grave danger and we have no way to contact them. You did not think to track this drow instead of returning here? It seems your actions have cost three honorable dwarves their lives. You should maybe think of giving up adventuring." Sildar storms out of the Inn, clearly distressed.
Toblen looks at the retreating Sildar, then back to you and absentmindedly says, "Yes, your things have been brought up. Your bath has been drawn. You should head up before the water gets cold. Food will be brought up as soon as it is ready." Nodding towards the door where Sildar left, he asks, "I take it you had some bad news about his colleague?"
"I did." Katerielle will point to her clothes and armor. "Do you have a laundry service or a boy who can run the leather to a leather worker and my clothes to a launderer and seamstress or tailor all for cleaning and repair?" She will place ten pieces of gold on the counter. "For any costs, if it will be more, I will pay you in the morning. If less you can let me have the change then. If that's acceptable I will be in my room the rest of tonight or until I get my clothes back." She'll give the tender a wink and a smile, but the smile doesn't go to her eyes. Then she heads up stairs.
Leek will watch Sildar as he rushes out the door. He will walk to Kat before she goes off for her bath (assuming we were all in on the loop).
"Do you still think he's a scoundrel? If so we might want to have the thief shadow him. Who knows whom he might want to see with this info. If not, have a good bath..."
"I would rather no one follow him. At best they would follow him out into the wild to stand around, ho towards the castle or another town. At worst they would follow him into an ambush." Katerielle will say softly in response to Leek. "But he did tell us what we have to do, now. Find Gundren's brothers. So tomorrow we all should resupply, selling what we don't need. Go see the merchant we brought the initial goods to, who knew the brothers were late. Get lots of food and whatever information he has." Katerielle whispers the last part. Tmakes the pitcher of wine with her as she headed up to her bath.
(Let me know when it's ok to head into the next day. If anyone wants to talk to Kat before the next day feel free to knock on her door.)
(( ooc: I'm traveling for Xmas and stuff so I probably won't engage the conversation with Sildar. I just want to go to lionshield foster and buy a rapier, sell my shortswords and pick up a diamond somewhere. ))

You sell 2 short swords for 10gp. You buy 1 rapier for 25gp.
The next day nursing a hangover, Katerielle will go down stairs after receiving he clothes. She will eat a little eggs and bread not really having the stomach for much more. Katerielle will head out to Halia's shop with anyone who wants to go along. There she will sell her light crossbow and 18 crossbow bolts. She would like to buy a couple of scimitars and a spear depending on what she can afford and what is there. She will tell Halia that she know miner's and prospector claims are closely guarded secrets but Gundren is dead and his brothers have not shown up in town for resupply so any information she can give us will help. Persuasion 11
Then she will head to Barthen's Provisions to see Barthen. Inform him of the death of Gundren. Ask if his brothers are still over due. Tell him he knows miner's and prospector claims are a closely guarded secret but Katerielle is worried about their safety and needs to inform them about Gundren so any information, even what direction they enter town or depart would help. 2 Persuasion.
(Assume I can sell the crossbow and bolts for 12.9 gp. That gives me 46.4 total gold minus whatever I still owe the innkeeper or plus any change. Scimitars cost 25 gp each and spear is 1 gp.)
So pretty much what he did before. Just without the beatings. Hopefully. (Good food is relative to a Goblin)
Does Droop seem to have a problem with that? Because Leek can add the beatings if he prefers...
Droop says your beatings wouldn't be very frightening, so he'll try to make do without them.
"Alot. He wouldn't be specific, but he said thousands a couple of times. I am also not sure if he understands how much that is or if it simply the largest number word he knows in common, based again on how he used the word and would not give a specific amount."
