Have you had any applicants yet that didn't ask for an exception to the character creation guidelines? I mean other than the one that argued against the house rule on crits.
Really rude everyone. DMs work hard on their content and then are kind enough to invite you to come play in their world. If you don't like the way they want to do it, please, apply to a different game instead.
I actually appreciate this, thank you. I did work hard on the rules, and being picked up on them isn't the nicest thing. It's all good, no hard feelings, but I'm just going to put it straight rq.
House rules are staying the same.
This is doing its best to be at least a bit professional, so I'd rather not be called Drum, even if you previously know me from other threads. This is public, so a little respect would be nice, Drummer, DM, or GM would be perfect thank you.
Baalzeboop, the rules for character requirements state that characters need to love one of the mentioned things, and I'm sticking with that. If not, they wouldn't have received the letter. I'll PM you and HelloImL about the religion stuff.
BlackBear, I have artificer, I can share it with you if you're picked for the pbp. Until then, do your best without it, and leave it out on the sheet. And if you don't know how to do death saves then this prolly isn't for you.
Nothic2SeeHere2, Tortle is cool, if you have it. And if you look on the map, your character can come from anywhere on the smaller continent. Everywhere on that counts as the city, so when I said in the city, I meant anywhere on that continent.
Laurender, Yep! You can go for a alchemist.
Sorry if that seems offhand in any way, I just put a lot of effort into this. This thread is for applying and questions, not Demands and recommendations.
To everyone who's applied so far, thank you! Love your characters so far :)

I didn’t mean I was dming I meant I don’t know how 5e death saves work, now that I reread it I recognise my wording is poor, it’s late at night and I can’t think straight, what I meant was I’m a dm too, when I dm for my players I use constitution saves for death saves as in my opinion (not pressuring you here) they make more sense. I then said that because I always dm for my group and do my house rules with them I don’t know how 5e written rules say death saves work. I’m not purposefully or trying to be argumentative or shoot your thread down and if it came across that way I apologise.
Also Drum how do you do deathsaves, I never learnt so I just do Constitution saves for them when people get low in my campaigns, is it a straight roll?
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.

I appreciate some of you have PMed me, and that's totally cool, but when it comes to applying I will need all applications to be on this thread, in the format I described. HelloImL made a great example on the last page, thank you for that.
P.S. I plan to figure out item things, like flavouring bows to guns and other steampunk wears once the players have been chosen. Don't worry, that will all be sorted.
Have a great day everyone!

Nothic2SeeHere2, Tortle is cool, if you have it. And if you look on the map, your character can come from anywhere on the smaller continent. Everywhere on that counts as the city, so when I said in the city, I meant anywhere on that continent.
Cool, thanks. Sorry about the questions. Here’s my application.
Name: Kolbi
Race: Tortle
Class: Rogue
Background: Sage
It’s no secret my people hate the sky.
I mean, look at us. We’re short, slow-moving, and about as coordinated as any creature with a giant shell on its back can be. When you think about it, there really isn’t a creature less suited to flight than us. We’re essentially rocks – ancient, wise rocks, but rocks nonetheless.
But me? Call me crazy, but I’ve always loved the sky. It’s been my dream since I was a youngling to soar through the clouds, bound to no one. Leave the old traditions below, I say – there’s no place for them in the sky!
It’s never going to happen, of course. A tortle, living in Aveanor? The very idea is ridiculous. Why would anyone in that city of magic want me? I’m sneaky, sure, and hardworking, and my mum says I’m the smartest little guy she’s ever known, but every tortle’s mum says that to them, right?
Kolbi is a young, somewhat naive tortle, born and raised in a small village on the coast. He’s lived most of his life in isolation, with only his extended family and a few friends to talk to. Of his few interests, music, philosophy, and nature are the most prominent. Kolbi tends to get a little nervous around new people, but to receive a letter from the Edinbrail Company is a dream come true – a trip to the big city! Sure, the job isn’t his dream pilot career, but maybe he can work his way up the ladder. A positive attitude is half the work, just like his mum always says. Well, she hasn’t said that recently, but that’s exactly the kind of thing mum would say, so let’s just assume she said it.
Kolbi really isn’t a great rogue. He’s small and sneaky enough, but he doesn’t exactly have the right mindset for it. What he is is determined — eager to follow his dream and willing to put in the work to make it happen.
Hopefully this fits the campaign theme alright. I wasn’t trying to stray outside the boundaries, an outlander tortle was just the first idea to pop into my head.
Fears: Failure, loneliness
Hobbies: music, reading old texts, researching, long walks, sneaking around, long walks while playing music or sneaking around
I would like to use Tasha’s content if that is ok. Can we use the rules on customizing your orging for ability score increases?
I'll happily share it if you become part of the pbp, but for now, it'd be great if you could just do the best with what you have in your application :) And yes, you may.

Hey! Kinda all or nothing on the forums lately, please excuse me for being late to most parties.
Thodin grew up in a poor dwarven family who worked the sewers of Aveanor. He learned the trade carrying and working stone which would control the flow of sewage. The stink of his clothes and limited coins in his purse had him relax in the same taverns as the seedier elements of the city. Eventually, the lure of better coins and lifestyle was too much to resist, so he started to use his knowledge of the sewers as a guide for criminal networks.
His whole changed when he found a ring in the sewer. He could never determine if a gang had dropped some loot, or if the ring had flushed itself down a drain. When Thodin put on the ring, the genie possessed him or at least whispered into his ear promising wealth and power. It was an easy sell. He figuratively grabbed that brass ring with both hands. With his new powers, Thodin left the sewers and pledged never to return. After new clothes and many bathes, he began a new life in the protection racket of the gang that he used to guide within the sewers. He discovered the sky and marveled at it. His genie promised that he would fly one day, so he became obsessed with it collecting stories of experiments with flight.
As a new dwarf on the scene, he became the interest of a veteran city inspector who urged him to get out of the business. That shared many meals confirming that Thodin was no rat and had a passion for flight. The day he received the letter from the Military Office, the city inspector told him that the letter was not a coincidence and urged him to take it. So, he packed his things and left his life again, without saying goodbye.
Obviously, I'm assuming that Warlock is not considered as a full caster. Haven't decided which Pact to take yet. May depend if he can make a firearm his Pact Weapon.
If selected, would like to Buy Equipment with gold, instead of starting equipment of class and background
The rythmic tapping of his hammer reverberates through the workshop. Building and maintaining Aveanor's mechanical infrastructure has been the call of the Bloodsmith family for ages. Gromthir loves what he does, and longs to make his family proud. Yet, he also longs for more. He picks up the strut he was hammering, and fits it into place on the large mechanical leg that is being constructed. One day, he will pilot a mech, regardless of status. Nobility doesn't make a great mech pilot, the determination and heart is what makes it. At least, that's how Gromthir sees it. The rest of Aveanor, thinks his kind should stay in their place and do what they are told. He spits to the side, has his heart starts to race. He grabs another piece of metal and gets back to work with renewed purpose.'
Gromthir wipes the sweat off his brow, as he walks over to his desk. He picks up the plans for his mech to look over the structure again. As he does, a letter falls to the ground. On the letter is the seal of Aveanor. He quickly snatches the letter of the ground. "How did I miss this before?" He says to himself, as the breaks the seal on the letter.
Dear reader. I hope this letter finds you in good health.
The military office is calling up able bodied men and women to work for the Edinbrail company, for services on a concept devised to aid work across the channel. More details will be provided on your arrival. Compliance will result in free living quarters, food, pay, and entrance into the company, where I’m sure you’ll meet many like minded folk. You’ve been sent this after the office reviewed your talents and interests, that fit well with what we are looking for.
If this interests you, we will see you at noon on the 21 of March, at the military depot, city centre. No sooner, no later. We have sent 5 gold pieces with this letter, which will hopefully pay for your travels. If you are not interested in this, you can forget about this letter and continue as normal. The choice is yours.
This is it, his chance to move up in his station. He pauses for a second as he thinks of his family. Is it really worth it to leave his family, and everything they've built together. He takes a deep breath and steels himself. He knows what he must do. He takes of his leather apron and heads into his home to discuss plans with his family. He takes a moment to look around, "It is with blood that we power our bodies. With our bodies we power machines. With machines, we do the impossible." Tears begin to form as comes to terms with the changes of the future. Hopefully his family understands.
Gromthir is a young, ambitious mechanic. His family has served Aveanor for generations as smiths and mechanics. They are responsible for maintaining all manner of machinery and infrastructure. His ambition is to become a mech pilot, regardless of what society thinks.
Fears: Complacency, Not making his mark on the world, disappointing family
Hobbies: Drone racing, Mech design, loves a good book
This looks so cool! I have a bunch of stuff coming up in the next few months so I can't join, but I just wanted to say this looks amazing and good luck 😁
Name: Ivan Richter, demolitionist-priest Race: Human (Variant, Gunner feat) Class: Paladin Background: Blast Cultist (Rakdos Cultist minus guild spells)
Backstory: Ivan was the son of a very successful business owner. He didn't like it. His parents wanted him to take over the business when he grew up, but he was never interested in the rigidity and stability that came with that sort of power. It took him 16 years to find an alternative.
The Cult of the Blast started as a small group of revolutionaries who wanted to force people out of their comfort zones and make them realize how insane and corrupt the world is. Eventually, though, their philosophy turned from a revolutionary's hopes and dreams to a dangerous religious doctrine. Worship of freedom became worship of the implements of chaos that they had used to bring about that freedom: bombs, gunpowder, and bullets.
Ivan found them, huddled outside the city on the coast, exiled for their beliefs. He saw what they represented. What they could do. When he helped them back into the city, they rejoiced. They accepted him as their leader, and for once, he had an idea for what he could do with the company: fireworks. It only took 3 years before he was shut down and his parents resumed full control. They disowned him for his beliefs and had all the blast cultists they could catch arrested for being part of a "terrorist organization."
29 years later, he was working in his crude little workshop on the coast when he received the letter. As he read it, thoughts raced through his head. War. Money. Power. Here he was, with his meager cult, barely armed and unable to cause much of a fuss. This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. Vive la révolution.
Fears: being alone (his parents isolated him, and he's grown emotionally reliant upon others' responses, even if they are responses of fear and disgust), being controlled Hobbies: tinkering, firework making (he was blessed by a fairly young and weak god of gunpowder, thus his dealing radiant damage with his explosive-infused weapons [I know I'm justifying flavor here, but I think this is pretty cool]) Voice Claim: Master Willem from Bloodborne Extra details: he wears crude, black-and-red vestments with flowing chains. He is also covered in burn scars and lacks any hair.

Fears: being alone (his parents isolated him, and he's grown emotionally reliant upon others' responses, even if they are responses of fear and disgust), being controlled
Hobbies: tinkering, firework making (he was blessed by a fairly young and weak god of gunpowder, thus his dealing radiant damage with his explosive-infused weapons [I know I'm justifying flavor here, but I think this is pretty cool])
Voice Claim: Master Willem from Bloodborne
Extra details: he wears crude, black-and-red vestments with flowing chains. He is also covered in burn scars and lacks any hair.
I am unruly in the stands
(I am a rock on top of the sand)
I am a fist amidst the hands
And I make a wreck out of my hand
(I make a fist and not a plan)
And I break it just because I can
