After finishing with the shelter, Thea will begrudgingly follow William to the ship (she doesn't want to follow orders, but she knows that doing so is a good course of action, and she relishes the chance to loot stuff). Thea will then search the stern of the ship, cracking open whatever she can with a dagger (Thank goodness my daggers weren't damaged Thea thought, as she checked her knives earlier.)

After assisting William with med checks on everyone, and the other two ladies raising the shelter at the forest's edge, Seri rejoins William and Thea in their salvage attempts. She swims out using her swim speed and water breathing to ferry the barrels and crates from lagoon waters to shore to facilitate.
Once done, she touches William's elbow to let him know she's done, murmuring to give him Trondro'sguidance (add 1d4 to check).
Can I have investigation checks for anyone who wants to search the ships or the boxes and barrels please. And tell me where you're looking!
William waded into the water to fetch the crates and barrels closest to the shoreline. He did not go deeper than waistdeep at best, leaving the task of collecting the further out containers to Seri who seemed better suited to swimming anyway.
In terms of spaces on the map: the top three rows of water.
Kairouani sets about making herself a spear and starts on a bow and arrows to replace those lost in the shipwreck....luckily her smaller stuff was all still on her person.
Between Seri and William, a decent haul of crates and barrels are corralled on the beach and opened. There are provisions, though no fresh rations given how long the ship had been at sea. Salt pork and hard biscuits aplenty. Hardly appetising but it's food.
Some of the crates yield bottles of Carina Rum packed in straw, most of which are intact. There are around 70 bottles of rum in all, worth somewhere in the region of 5 silver each depending on where you were in the world.
Some of the crates also contain the popular and valuable spice known as Matsira. This has become one of the most exported commodities from the Windward Isles, favoured in the upper echelons of Aseri and Verdian society and marking wealthy hosts out as being fashionable and well connected when their kitchen staff use it in great quantities in everything from stews to desserts. Much of it is spoiled by the seawater but William's estimate is that there is about 150lbs in good condition, which would be worth about 450 gold back in the East. A cruel irony to be presented with such wealth in these circumstances. At least it might make dinner more palatable.
One of the barrels contains about 50lbs of dried Setroka leaves, a substance that the more fashionable members of Eastern society have taken to smoking in pipes, claiming that it has properties beneficial to clarity of thought. Again, this would be quite valuable back East, maybe 100 gold or so.
There are 7 kegs of gunpowder, the contents of 3 of which appear to be dry.
There is also sailcloth and wood in significant quantities and a few personal effects, including a wooden flute, a single leather shoe, and Cap'n Thorne's own distinctive bottle-green tricorn hat.
Thea's somewhat cursory search of the gently-rocking hulk of the Horn is less fruitful. The battered and sea-swept remnants of the captain's cabin reveal a waterlogged chart which is utterly useless as the ink has run, one of the captain's spare shirts, and a small, flat-topped box or chest wedged between some splintered planks. On the deck there are some tangled lines and a block and tackle which may be salvageable.
As you continue your shelter-building and search of the debris and the wreck, the sun reaches its peak and it is beginning to get uncomfortably hot, even for those native to these islands. It seems to be hotter the further north you travel, or it could just be a particularly hot day. Dehydration could be fatal very quickly in such austere conditions.
Some large birds appear in the sky, circling above you as you go about your work.
Once done retrieving all the items floating in the lagoon, Seri returns and addresses the group a little shyly.
"As the sun gazes down on us, we must replenish our water as Trondro's oceans are replenished by great rivers and rain. Please, if you would, finish what you have in your waterskins, fill them with sea water, and set them down together here (she points under the makeshift shelter). Along with anything edible including the salt pork, biscuits and matsira, all in the same area. I will cleanse them so we may drink and eat safely."
Once all the canteens full of salt water and provisions are located in one spot, Seri begins her ritual. Self-conscious because she has never done it before, only having watched one of the priests at the temple as an acolyte, she begins a quiet prayer to great Trondro to offer succor to the shipwrecked five.
Seri casts Purify Food and Drink as a ritual to turn the salt water into fresh, drinkable water, and to ensure that the food is not poisoned or diseased.
After several minutes go by, she lapses into silent meditation, then arises to test whether it worked by taking a sip from her own waterskin, still not fully confident in her own abilities despite her epiphany during the storm. Hoping to taste clean, pure, fresh water.
William looked at the goods they managed to haul on shore. It was a cruel irony to be handed such wealth and luxury only for it to be meaningless. He would have loved to take the Matsira spice and Setroka leaves and trade them for coin but they were too heavy to carry around in their current condition. Perhaps they could bury it here on the island and pick it up later, he thought to himself.
'At least we won't go hungry.' He tried to sound cheerful holding up some salt pork and hard biscuits. It was not much but he could make do. He did take some of the dried leaves and stuffed them in his pouch with the notion of buying a new pipe when back in more civilised areas, as his old pipe was the one thing he could not find among the wreckage.
Seri casts Purify Food and Drink as a ritual to turn the salt water into fresh, drinkable water, and to ensure that the food is not poisoned or diseased.
William stared at Seri with a blank look on his face the entire time she was performing the ritual. 'That's cheating.'He said somewhat matter-of-fact when she was done. Nonetheless he did take a sip from his waterskin. It did taste like fresh water.
He took the tricorn hat, two pieces of debris and walked to a spot on the beach just outside the waterline. He drove the two wooden remains of the Horn of Plenty into the sand until they were lodged firm, placed captain Thorne's hat on top of them and poured out an entire bottle of rum over the makeshift marker. Thorne might have been a lunatic but he had been William's captain and that demanded a modicum of respect, even in their current circumstances.
Having paid his respects to the dead, William returned to the group. 'We should only take the food if we're heading inland. The gunpowder too if you think we might have need of it. The rest we leave behind or bury, in case any of you plan on returning for it.'
He checked his bag to see how wet his tools still were. 'I'll try to get a fire going.' He said. William took his tinderbox and began collecting wood and branches dry enough for the kindle to lit.
Thea will lug the following things back to camp, setting most of it down near the shelter:
The rum (she takes a few bottles and stuffs them in her backpack, then pops open one with a knife, and takes a swig.)
A gunpowder keg "If needed, I could probably rig up a bomb with this thing. might be useful."
She will also take the chest, carrying it under one arm. once back at camp, she will try to open it. if it is locked, she will pick the lock with her thief tools. Thief tools (Dexterity?) 12

Taking some food and three packets (or 3 pounds anyway) of Matsira, the taste of which she has come to love, Seri looks a little hurt when William declares that her heartfelt ritual to Trondro to cleanse the water food is cheating. But she senses arguing would do little good.
Seeing that Kairouani is preparing to possibly hunt, William to start a fire, and Thea to open the chest, Seri instead murmurs for Trondro's guidance to help her find nearby fruits and berries, or edible shellfish in the pools along the shore as she begins to forage for fresher food.
Can I have a Survival check for William to start a fire please?
Seri's search for nuts and berries takes her into the fringe of the jungle, where the calls of birds and other creatures intensify at this incursion by a stranger. She is familiar with the types of plants here, similar as they are to her own island (called An-Trano by its inhabitants). It doesn't take her long to gather a good amount of fresh, nutritious food, sufficient to feed the five surviving crew alongside the dried rations and anything Kairouani might be able to hunt.
Returning from her foraging, however, Seri sees Kairouani still trying to make some weapons and getting increasingly frustrated as nothing seems to be turning out how she intends. It seems something is affecting the usually capable and dextrous islander.
Kairouani stops her crafting attempts and peers up into the clear blue sky. She is able to ascertain that the birds are in fact... birds. They are quite large and dark in colour but beyond that she is unable to determine what they might be.
Thea, returning from her search of the ship clutching the flat-topped box, settles in the sand with it in front of her and methodically goes to work on it with her tools. It is locked, but the lock is simple and Thea has ample time to work it. After a few minutes of trying, she feels the tumblers fall into place and with a smile of satisfaction turns the lock. It clicks open and she is able to lift the lid, revealing a small, leather-bound journal and a collection of folded charts. The charts make little sense to Thea, but maybe Seri might be able to understand them given her experience with navigation. The journal is secured by a leather thong wrapped around it. Unwrapping it and opening it, Thea sees a collection of words and symbols haphazardly spread across the pages. It appears to be the captain's personal journal, or maybe notebook. It is not laid out in any sort of logical order and seems a reflection of a chaotic or at least preoccupied mind. Flicking through the pages Thea can see that about two thirds of them are filled with this dense collection of cryptic thoughts and disconnected words, along with the odd diagram. On the final page that has been written upon, there is a single word written in large letters with two exclamation marks and double underlined. It simply says,
'Fire!!'
There is nothing else written under this word. It seems to be some sort of conclusion reached.
Time is getting on now. It will be dark in a couple of hours.
Two of the three birds that had been circling overhead have swooped down. One has landed on the rail of the wreck and the other has landed on the rocks nearby. The third is nowhere to be seen. They are large, probably about waist height to an average human had one been standing next to one, with dark brown or black feathers all over and the keen eyes and sharp, hooked beaks of predators. Their yellow legs are topped with great fluffy pantaloons of feathers, giving them an almost comedic appearance from the waist down in odd contrast to the slightly menacing heads that are watching you all intently. Now that they are closer, Seri and Kairouani can tell that they are Ankoai, quite common birds of prey known throughout the islands.
Can I have History checks from Seri and Kairouani please?
Can I also have Perception checks all round please?
William has no trouble finding dry wood on the fringes of the jungle and in no time at all has a fire blazing merrily away. Despite the fact that there is no need of light or warmth at the moment, the fire is strangely comforting. It promises hot food and light in the darkness, perhaps even hope of discovery.
It is unclear who is first to see it. Nobody mentions it but over the course of maybe a minute, all your eyes are drawn to movement about 300ft along the beach, in the opposite direction from the wreck. Emerging from the water are two huge turtles. At this distance it's hard to tell exactly how big they are, but it is obvious they are larger than even the giant sea turtles Seri and Kairouani are familiar with. Their ungainly brownish-green forms haul themselves bit by bit up the white sands. Meanwhile the two Ankoai continue to watch your activities on the beach. They seem unperturbed by the proximity of humans and humanoids, or even by William's camp fire.
As Kairouani watches the birds watching her, a half-remembered story comes to mind. Although not a practice espoused by the Igneri, nor the Olona, Kairouani feels sure that there are tales of far-flung tribes who tame the Ankoai and use them for hunting and fishing. Could their comfort in the presence of people be because they have been reared by and around people? Or is it simply that they have never seen humanoids before and therefore don't know to be afraid of them?
'That's... unusual.' William remarked when he spotted the two turtles hauling themselves onto the beach. He was familiar with turtles but in his experience those tended to be on the smaller side.
Nature check for more information on the turtles if appropriate: 17
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kairouani approached the birds carefully to see if they bore any signs of being hand reared, she went wide around the turtles but wasn't overly afraid of them as the only ones she had encountered before ate seaweed, jellyfish or sponges.
Unless Kairouani voices any suspicion of the Ankoai being trained as hunting birds, and thus potentially evidence of the presence of one of the tribes here on this island, Seri merely recognizes the birds of prey and smiles as any Olona would at native fauna, but does not otherwise make the connection.
(For example that such a tribe might be hunting giant turtles or their eggs!)
Instead, Seri answers Thea's question: "I am happy to take first watch when it is time. I need to think on everything that has happened..."
The sea elf feels strangely drawn to the giant oceanic turtles, vaguely recalling yet not recalling her life below the waves before he washed up on the beach as an adolescent. Remembering that there must have been wondrous creatures to see without remembering the creatures themselves.
Seri, like Kairouani gives the turtles space, but approaches to a reasonable distance and gazes long at them with her large aquamarine eyes.
After a time, she begins to make strange, slow movements with her arms and emit slight clicking noises, as if addressing the marine beasts themselves. (Sea Elf: Friend of the Sea: You can communicate simple ideas to any Beast with a swimming speed. It can understand your words but you cannot understand it in return.). She humbly begs pardon for being stranded on the turtles' beach as visitors and outlanders. She assures them that her group means no harm, though she cannot speak for other predators or hazards here. She informs them about the Ankoai nearby if they have not seen.
When finished, Seri does not wait expectantly for any answer. Nor does she really know how she is communicating in the first place - it is as if in a half-remembered dream. She merely watches the giant turtles serenely to see what they will do next.

Seri Animal Handling plus Guidance: 15 + 3 = 18
When finished, Seri does not wait expectantly for any answer. Nor does she really know how she is communicating in the first place - it is as if in a half-remembered dream. She merely watches the giant turtles serenely to see what they will do next.
