Update: A couple players have dropped and we find ourselves in search of a Cleric or Paladin .
Greetings, fellow travelers! I am a fledgling dungeon master known as Sparlock. My friend and I find ourselves in need of 3 more companions of the first level for a quest known as "Hoard of the Dragon Queen". This will be my first adventure, but I feel up to the challenge. Who's ready to join me?!
Please post your character's name, class, background, and backstory to apply. Looking for people who can commit to posting at least once a day on a long running campaign. In combat, characters silent for more than 24 hours into their initiative will be autopiloted to perform simple weapon attacks, cantrips, or the dodge action as appropriate, just to keep the action going.
Character Creation: No homebrew, UA, or Critical Role content. If you wish to roll for stats(7 4d6 drop 1, drop the lowest) and/or starting gold, do so in this thread. If you dont like your roll, you may instead use point buy and starting equipment, but must use both. Starting equipment can be sold for 50% value, and mundane equipment can be purchased for the price listed in the PHB.
Feats, monstrous races, and races which grant flying at 1st level are in, but I ask that you please be kind to the newbie DM running out of a book.
I'd like to apply with my Half-Orc Fighter named Thokk Elgelhart (gladiator background). If i understand the rules of this PbP forum correctly, I should be sending you a PM, to discuss joining a game, so I can send you my character's backstory that way.
My character will be Phentallius Tavgrephor, or Phen for short. He is a Triton Paladin, who honors Auril, goddess of winter. Phen was a simple hard working hard working young man. He adventured out on his own once he was of age. He found himself working for an old sailor, who at the time needed a deck hand. Being of aquatic descent the sea life was the life for him. He loved every minute of it. That was until the storm. It came out of nowhere, no one could of predicted this freak of nature. The last thing Phen remembers is the boat capsizing, the next thing he knew he was face down in the sand, the waves lapping at his feet. That was over a year ago, he still spends time searching the coastline for the old man, the one that gave him a chance to become self-sufficient and make a name for himself. He now finds himself in one pub or another, the drink becoming his companion.
Haha, no worse than point buy I guess, I'll take them in the order I got them, playing a low-dex character should be fun. I'll make a cleric I think, since the party doesn't have one yet.

Name: Silvana Race: Tiefling Class: Ranger Background: Urchin Backstory: Silvana grew up on the streets with no familial connections. She knows nothing of her parents and still hopes to find clues about their identities, even to this day. As a young child her ancestry made life harder than most had to endure and she did everything to get by. After falling sick and dropping in and out of consciousness, Silvana eventually found herself underground once she stabilized. It seemed someone had taken pity on her at last and gracefully brought her to their home. Growing up, she would become a permanent fixation in this odd family of various former outcasts. Down there she learned of solidarity and love, surrounded by individuals of a variety of races coming from all walks of life. She was, however, not allowed on the surface with the reasoning that "she wasn't ready". So that's what she spent most of her days trying to fix. Silvana went out of her way to try and learn something from every single one of those that were currently living down there with her. Her 'coming of age' present was access to the surface, which elated her. Silvana spent majority of the day roaming the outskirts of the city. Still remembering how the streets had treated her as a child, she made a conscious decision to steer clear. Instead she explored the wilderness with unbridled enthusiasm. As the years passed she spent less time underground and more time honing her skills. But she could only ignore the city for so long, and once she felt confident in herself and her abilities, she ventured onto the streets with the mind to learn as much as possible.
Race: Rock Gnome Class: Wizard Background: Haunted One Backstory: Valji is more odd but unusually quiet for a gnome. Those who look into his eyes can see that he has faced unimaginable horror and that he is no stranger to darkness. He occasionally talks to inanimate objects, insists on placing them in certain places or arrangements, and every once in a while he is more skittish than a hare in a field of wolves. But other than that, he is pleasant to be around, and often his odd mannerisms are quite entertaining!

Not sure if this game is overcrowded already but I'd be interested if there's room.
Name: Keyleth
Race: High (Moon) Elf
Class: Rogue
Backstory: Keyleth's parents were assassinated when she was a child. She doesn't know all the details since she was so young when it happened, but has a general sense that they may have been leaders in a movement of political dissidents who were tracked down while on the run. She grew up on the streets with a group of halflings, stealing to get by, and since she doesn't sleep, she has had a lot of solitary time at night which she spends reading everything she could get her hands on and tinkering with improvised mechanical devices. Her motivation to set out adventuring is to find out more about the circumstances surrounding her parents' death and, perhaps, pick up where they left off.
as long as i remember I've been taking indigence to make weird and interesting potions. but I've been taking different noting what ingredient do to make life longer and as long as i can remember i have been trying to make a potion of immortality. I will do anything to get the secret of immortality even if t means the death of millions.

I'm going with point buy lol
Name: Urokris Kral
Race: Dragonborn
Class: Fighter
Backstory:
Ever since he was a youngling, battle was instilled into him, hammered into his mind that it was the only way to honour his ancestors and prove his worth as a man. But he never accepted it, he couldn't. Fighting was animalistic and more, he wasn't drawn to it like his brothers were, who lusted after fights and brawls like their life depended on it. And there he was, the oldest and the greatest disappointment to his family. In an effort to make his father proud, he eventually caved and took up training with a sword and found himself rather skilled. Natural talent some said, but he hated it with a passion and others hated him yet more for not being given that talent that, according to them, he did not deserve. At the time, if it were up to him, he would have gladly given such talents to them. Several years of fighting in the village and he was called upon to lead a raid against a red dragonborn village that had been a thorn at their sides.
At the request he suddenly balked. Was he to lead another of his kind to death? The reds and the blacks had had their conflicts to be sure, and he had been party to some raids in his teens, but to lead a force against them. And he knew what it meant, what they would do to the innocents once they broke through the defensive lines. He refused, argued with his father for days before eventually packing his things and leaving the village altogether and found his way to Waterdeep.
The place was massive to him, a stark difference from what he was used to. The numerous races that he never before saw: gnomes and tieflings which he thought at first were devils walking in the mortal realm. The multitude of languages that hit his ears, the cultures and everything was a shock. It was only by chance that an elf musician found him wandering wide-eyed in the streets and decided to take him to a tavern before some thief decided to take advantage, and there they spent the night talking as if they knew each other their entire lives. Random things, special things, their pasts, their hopes, all of it they spoke about until they were too tired and too drunk to speak anymore. The elf, Elaric, bought him a room and the next day offered to teach him about music.
Urokris had an instant liking to it although his large fingers were incredibly clumsy, but he persevered through it, practicing the lute that Elaric had given him tirelessly throughout the nights until he finally got the hang of it and performed his first gig in the tavern where he met the elf. From there, Elaric and he would travel the sword coast, from tavern to tavern playing and singing, Elaric doing most of the singing since Urokris's deep voice was clumsy and harsh, but his music was soft and angelic. They continued until Elaric told him that they had been invited to a lord's keep. The excitement they shared was palpable and they spent the entire day preparing and practicing the songs they would play in order to earn the lord's favour. A few days later, when they were about to leave the city, a black dragonborn stopped Urokris in the inn and informed him that his father had been murdered. His mirth suddenly dying away, he felt his world collapse in on itself and after asking who had committed the crime, his clansman told him it was his brothers who conspired against their father, and although they didn't commit the act, the crime was theirs.
Filled with sorrow and rage, he looked to his dearest friend and told him he could not dishonour his father by not avenging his murder. Elaric told him to go with haste and that they could continue their musical adventures when he dealt with his personal matters. Thanking him, he embraced him before setting off and buying himself a greatsword, finding that all the natural talent that he had had fallen away to dust from disuse, but this only strengthened his resolve.
I'd like to present Laurine Stargard; a Human (variant) Hexblade Warlock with the Haunted One background. I am curious if you would be okay with tweaking the flavor behind the Hexblade and having the patron be more Fey-based in theme as opposed to Shadowfell-based? I am not looking to change any of the mechanics, just the theme of the subclass. The general idea that her family was cursed by some sort of evil fey and to combat the curse they made a pact with an archfey (probably Titania); they were gifted with a powerful sword which was called 'Stargard.' The curse passed from mother to daughter only, not through the males for some odd reason, and upon their coming of age ceremony were gifted with the sword which was a counter to the curse. Unfortunately for Laurine, over the generations, the true meaning behind the sword was lost as often there were generational gaps were only boys were born to the family as was the case with Laurine.
