Serak: Serak continues searching each ruins in the area, first for danger and then for treasure. If he finds nothing, he finally approaches the intact building to the Northeast, listening intently at the door. He then falls into formation behind the warriors, ready to breach the building.
Again finding nothing after searching the third and final ruined building, Syna creeps across the square once more. As the others slowly follow along the southern road, the bard investigates the doorway leading into the fortified structure. He pauses, sitting quietly out of the breeze in the shade cast by the forts frontal wall. The door appears strong, made of heavy wood and reinforced with thick metal bands at its hinges. Inside seems quiet, though a sudden sound perks his interest. A faint groaning just beyond the door. Nodding to Beetle as his allies approach, Serak backs away, taking position behind them.
OOC: I've got you guys in this sort of position. But happy to move you around if you'd rather be elsewhere for this breach.
Before taking the crowbar Beetle checks the door to see if its locked...if not he opens and enters....if it is he takes the crowbar and tries to pop the door then enter

The well rusted handle creaks as Beetle applies downward pressure, grinding against years of decay. Inside the lock finally clicks free of the frame. Hanging the crowbar on his belt, he glances back to the others and nods quietly before pushing the door to open. However the warped wood holds fast, fixed tightly against the frame. With a sigh, the paladin reaches for the crowbar again, digging it deep into between the handle and the frame.
With a grunt of effort, the door splits open sending a shower of splinters through the air. A chunk of old wood falls to the floor leaving the two metal bands to swing slowly in the rusted hinges. As Beetles eyes adjust to the dimness inside, a groan grows louder in the dark. Staggered footsteps draw closer. Out of the gloom, the rotting face of a long dead soldier appears - jaw hanging askew, covered in thick powdery ash, still wearing the armour of the town guard.
OOC: Inside the keep is dim light. This will only affect Beetle and Arkhan as the others will negate it with their darkvision. Dim light counts as a lightly obscured area which limits you to D/A on wisdom perception checks. These zombies are armoured as well so their AC will be slightly higher than previous zombies.
Beetle, we should have also rolled for your staff recharge at dawn. It's a 1d6+4 so you would have charged it fully this time regardless.

Huddled together around the rusted doorway, the party watch on as the undead warrior staggers towards them. Rusted and damaged chain main hangs from its rotted body, a broken sword swings loosely in its scabbard. Poking his head through the crowd, Serak clears his throat, shouting into the darkness. "What's worse than Zombies? Armored Zombies!"
Zombie 1 Wisdom Saving Throw: 13 Spell Save DC: 13
Continuing its march forwards, the zombie takes no notice of the bards words. A low grumble emanates from within its decayed head as it widens its jaws in preparation.
"DUCK!" A sudden, high pitched whistle, quickly grows louder. Instinctively in a singular motion the party duck down, as a slender wooden arrow soars over their heads.
Brots Attack Roll: 21
His line of sight partially blocked by his allies, Brots pulls his shot slightly wide of his target. The arrow soaring past the zombie as it takes another uneasy step forwards.
Rising to his feet once more, Syna clasps his hands together before showing his palms to the long dead soldier. A flickering ember twirls playfully through the air, before growing dramatically into a raging blaze at the beasts feet.
A wave of intense heat, rushes past the onlooking party into the town square. Inside, the interior walls of the fort gleam with bright orange light. The zombie rasps hysterically. Stumbling forwards as the flames totally engulf him, melted flesh pouring through chain mail.
Taking a long stride over the threshold, Beetle pushes the swinging door fully open. With his free hand, he thrusts his sword into the flailing zombie warrior.
Attack: 16 Damage: 6
The zombies flesh slices as easily as a well cooked flank of beef, offering no resistance to the paladins blade. Beetle withdraws his blade with little effort, releasing a stream of thick black blood onto the stone floor. Inside the bonfire, the zombie screeches. Clawed hands grasp at the air, trying desperately to find its attacker.
In the relative peace of the square, Jelenneth takes a firm grip of her husband. "Don't you go getting any ideas this time! Let these men work..." She casts a sly look at him, almost challenging him to charge forward, "I'll entangle you myself if I have to!"
Out of the raging flames, the zombies clawed hands reach out for Beetle.
Zombie 1 Attack Roll: 14
Holding the creature away at arms length, Beetle prevents the zombie from stepping any further forward and escaping the flames.
The flames rage on, blackening the soldiers armour and continuing to melt away its flesh.
Screaming in a wordless fury, a second undead soldier charges down the corridor towards the preoccupied Beetle. Throwing itself against the paladins body, the zombie claws at flesh, ravenous for fresh meat.
Zombie 2 Attack Roll: 20 Damage: (Assuming no Shield or Cutting Words)
Dayereth eyes flit between the zombie in the doorway and his scowling wife. The old monks arm twitches, a brief flash of white light glows in his palm. The temptation grows within him, but for now he reluctantly behaves.
Arkhan meanwhile peers around the warped doorway into the interior of the fort. Eyeing up the zombie inside, the dragonborn reaches out an arm, sparking up a fire of his own in his hand. With a flick of his arm, he sends a flaming ball inside.
Attack: 17 Damage: 2
The fireball explodes as it smashes into the zombies chest, leaving a charred black wound in the creatures now exposed ribs. What remains of the zombies clothes burns away, leaving a mess of charred melted flesh beneath its chain mail.
Zyltris forces his way through the doorway behind Beetle, taking a position in the corner of the room. Holding his morningstar above him, the elf swings the weapon downwards through the flames, towards the skull of the quickly melting zombie.
Zyltris Attack Roll: 7
Blinded by the intensity of the flames, Zyltris swings and misses his target. Blinking furiously, he tries again to focus on the zombie before him when something along the far wall grabs his attention. Propped against the stone is a rotting wooden ladder, leading upwards towards an equally fragile trapdoor in the ceiling.
OOC: That's round 1 over. I'll hold off on an update until I know about a reaction for Beetles damage - Either a shield or Seraks cutting words. Otherwise we're good to go.
Sensing that the party have the upper hand despite a second zombie arriving, Serak again yells out from the rear of the group. "What's worse than that? Two Armored Zombies!"
The bards mocking laughter echoes loudly against the stone walls, apparently infuriating the second of the two zombies. In a rage, the soldier smashes a fist into the wall, snapping a finger cleanly off its already gnarled hand.
"ANOTHER ARROW INCOMING!" Brots calls out again as a second high pitched whistle rips through the air forcing the others to duck.

With a sickening thump the arrow plunges directly into the skull of the first undead soldier. The zombie falls to the floor into a motionless pile of bones and rusted armour. Brots does a little dance, delighted with his shot before catching a disapproving look from the others. The gnomes face reddens, "S.... sorry..."
OOC: That takes us up to Syna and Beetles turns. Any issues with the above let me know!
Beetle follows Serak at a small distance, enough to give the Bard room to operate but close enough to spring into action if trouble arises..

Serak: Serak nods and mouths the word, "Zombies," as he hands Beetle his crowbar.
