Jambiya is up early, as she always is, and bustling about the tavern, clucking like an old hen and going on about how she was just gone two days and everything has fallen apart and how will they get on for as long as she'll be gone this time... she may also be a little worried about leaving home for a longer trip.
As the adventurers start to gather, she greets them with a clean table and a hot breakfast. Anafrey gets steered to a comfy chair with arms, the others have regular benches (experience tells her Anafrey will just roll off a bench). As Maldorn sits with his new friend, Jambiya smiles at it, then does a double-take, blinks, then leans in close and says, "You're a lovely shade of green, too."

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. Here's my D&D stuff. I love it so.
Not long after Maldorn, Erric and Anafrey have left, Dirk reappears, heading straight for Jambiya, his customary grin shining brightly. He assures her that everything is fine. "He's just very concerned about you. We both are," Dirk says to the little goblin girl. "He's in the kitchen if you want to go talk to him."
In the kitchen, Jambiya finds Brunthor at the beginning stages of preparing today's offerings. He's stomping around, his wooden leg banging its familiar rhythm. When Jambiya gets his attention, he stops and gives her another hug. "I'm sorry I ... Well, I'm just sorry," the dwarf says. He runs a hand down her hair, smiling at her. "You'll be careful, right?"
Ebokk and Eilikasys sit at a table with half-empty plates, already having been waited on by Jambiya. Eilikasys looks even more grumpy than she did the day before, while Ebokk is almost vibrating with anticipation. Dirk is hovering over them, telling Ebokk about several of his trophies. The dwarf, at the same time, is talking about treasures his father brought home from his adventures. It's a comically antiphonal chorus of nonsense, but they're both having fun, so why spoil it?
As the adventurers come together in various states of readiness, Jambiya leans down and addresses Maldorn's new friend. The snake's tongue darts out at the little goblin girl as it blinks at her. "Green, too," the snake repeats. Its wings ruffle again, showing themselves for just a second before once again disappearing along the creature's neck.
Erric is still pretty set on talking to Dirk about the mirror. He pulls him aside, which is honestly a very mature move for Erric, and asks, "so have you thought any more about what happened with the mirror? I told you everything we know about what we saw and experienced. What do you really know about where you got it and why did it do that to the whole house full of people? I'm serious Dirk - these heirlooms and keepsakes and knickknacks and botch-keys may be fun conversation pieces but you really don't know what they're capable of and they could be really dangerous to you and your family."
He blinks, surprised at himself at having said his piece.
Dirk gives Erric a radiant smile and drops a big hand onto his halfling shoulder. "Welcome to the adventure, my brave friend. Around every corner, underneath every hill, within every mirror, there might be someone or something out to get you. Your best chance is to always be on your guard. Constant vigilance!" the proprietor bellows, then bursts into laughter. He sweeps his arm to indicate all the treasures adorning the Seldom Spring. "Any one of these may swallow us up in an instant or unleash an unspeakable horror upon my unsuspecting patrons. That is adventure." He gives the bard a wink, then turns to return to one-upping Ebokk.
Erric blinks a few times, finishes his breakfast in silence, and then says to Jambiya: "your father's a lunatic and I worry for him."
Eventually he comes back to himself and begins asking Ebokk about his life, where he has traveled, what he does most days, charming the pants off him. He spins some yarns about adventuring across Faerun, palling around with famous adventurers, other ephemera of derring-do. He tries a bit less hard to make it seem like he's really sincere this time.
OOC: Did anyone other than Jambiya understand that "green too" from the snake?
Maldorn enjoys a simple breakfast and makes sure to feed some meat to his new pet snake. When Jambiya begins interacting with it, Maldorn lets another wide smile escape: "Ah, my little buddy here seems to like you too, Jambiya. He was enjoying some of Meric's music earlier. He is just like us!" There already is a hint of pride in the old man's voice.
"Sweet Jambi," croons Anafrey as she sits down and struggles slightly with the wooden armchair, "would you be so kind as to bring some bacon eggs and whiskey to your dear friend Anafrey? She has had a hard night you know." She nods along with her own words as if someone were saying them to her.
“You... You can speak to the snake?!” Maldorn asks Jambiya. “In all my years of hunting beasts, I never knew that this was possible. You are truly a spectacular little girl, Jambiya!”
Maldorn thinks for a moment: “Can you ask him if he has a name?”
Jambiya smiles uncertainly at Maldorn. "There's a lot about me I'm just discovering." She turns back to the snake, and says to it, "My name is Jambiya, and your friend here is Maldorn. What can we call you?"
OOC > With an Int of 2 I'm not sure how much it really understands... but Jambiya is talking to it like it's a person, fwiw.
"Well, either his name is Thirsty, or he'd like a drink. I think maybe you should call him something, Maldorn. I'm not sure he knows what a 'name' is, exactly."
She brings a pitcher of water over and a bowl, for Maldorn. Then, seeing Anafrey slumping in her chair, she goes back to the kitchen for some hearty food and coffee. No whiskey.
Maldorn thanks Jambiya and offers the bow of water to the winged snake: "Well, in that case... how about Sagitta? I think it is very fitting. Do you like it?" The old man half expects to understand the snake, just as Jambiya did.
OOC > Rewind! To the convo with Brunthor much earlier... just to clear those decks, as it were.
"Of course I'll be careful, Grumpy Pops. You've hammered so much common sense into me I won't ever take a wrong step... unless someone's in trouble." She smiles kindly at her foster father. "But you'd want me to, then. I love you and I'll come back, don't worry."

"So! Ebokk. Tell me more about yourself, as we prepare to head out. Also, what's your plan for this? Does the crew know exactly where the wreck is? And have you been at sea before?"
Erric finishes breakfast and would be fine going to second breakfast or elevensies if others want to stay and chat. But if people want to leave, he's happy to get going. He is not trying to hide, nor display, the 4 waterskins he's recently purchased. While everyone talks he plays his lute absentmindedly (performance 18)
Ebokk, who's finished his meal by now, looks at Erric with a slight grin. "Not much to say about myself. Trained as a shield dwarf. Raised, at least the last 50 years, by my widowed mother. For a while now, all of my time has been spent trying to find any clue as to what happened to my father. My plan is to sail to the island where the shipwreck with the orc flag is flying and investigate. Most likely, we'll need to venture onto the island. But from what I understand, it's a fairly small island, so it shouldn't take more than a couple days to find whatever it is we'll find. I have been to see many times, but mostly for travel. Most recently, we sailed here."
Jambiya, who is practiced at understanding people not at their best diction says to Anafrey, "No, no whiskey. We're about to get on a ship, and I've heard too many stories about seasickness to think more whiskey will help with it."
She unties her apron. "Besides, I'm off duty!" She heads back to the kitchen, returns with a pack ready for travel, says goodbye to her fathers. "I'm all set, whenever you're ready to head out, Master Ebokk!"

"Mmmfine, lessgo," Anafrey stumbles, and tucks into a drunken roll, landing in Erric's general vicinity.
